Interesting fact about painkillers. The work better if you actually take them. Having lay in bed waiting for the painkillers to kick in and nothing happening, I wanderes back to my desk to find them sat there next to my drink...

I’m curious, northern hemisphere folk. If you were able to see Aurora Borealis last night:

  • Was this your first time?
  • How far ‘south’ are you (roughly - I’m not in the business of doxxing you)?
  • How old are you (again, be as vague as you feel)?

Please do reply and boost. I get the sense that there were a lot of first-timers and a feeling of shared awe last night and I’d love to know just how far that was felt :neofox_heart:

Ah one of those nights where everyone sees the northern lights but me 🥲 my camera makes it look pretty gorgeous it but there was nothing but a vague pink hue in real life

Stars and a purple stripe in the sky which was pretty much invisible to the naked eye

quixoticgeek,
@quixoticgeek@v.st avatar

@Ellen don't worry. It's not visible to the naked eye here. But the camera shows it.

Really enjoying the pictures everyone is posting of the aurora. Even if it's too cloudy to see it here.

I do find myself wondering...

Who's read (or listened to the audio book) "Day of the triffids"?

quixoticgeek,
@quixoticgeek@v.st avatar

@A_C_McGregor I listened the audio book on a long car journey as a kid. Really impactful.

It was quite tricky last year trying to do my first tour without posting on Twitter where the majority of my followers were, but I did it, and it was a hige success! We did a live recording of it in Cardiff which you can now buy from https://www.gofasterstripe.com/bet

Help get the word to as many people as you can and support your local trans comedian!

@BethanyBlack Is this a UK only thing? that page doesn't load for me in .nl :(

I'm now the proud owner of a set of gauge blocks. These are one of the most precise things I own (microchips and camera lenses hold that title). Each is ground to ±300nM. The surface is so smooth they they can be wrung together and become incredibly hard to pull apart. These will become the origin for all precision in my machining.

Do I need anything this precise? Nope.
Am I very happy with my shiny new toy? Hellyes.

Genuine question, is there a function to these objects which exist in most hotel rooms beyond A Thing To Chuck Your Clothes On Because It Feels Weird To Just Throw Them On The Floor?

The thing, now with clothes piled on it

quixoticgeek,
@quixoticgeek@v.st avatar

@stavvers to throw at the friend you're sharing a room with when you discover that despite claims to the contrary, they do in fact snore. Loudly.

At least that's what I use them for...

quixoticgeek,
@quixoticgeek@v.st avatar

@stavvers that's to protect the bedding from people who collapsed on top of the bed before they've taken their shoes off...

Have you reached the stage of the hotel room stay where you discover that turning all the lights off is a challenge to rival the finest escape rooms ? 21 lights, 8 switches, of which 2 appear to do nothing...
