The “high speed” train Marseille - Bruxelles (that I’m taking as far as Lyon today)

Along its whole route it spends 67 minutes at stops! 🤦‍♂️

Totally logical. Not.

My trip Nuits-sous-Ravières to Berlin Südkreuz on Monday is all e-tickets except Strasbourg to Kehl, the section. Just collected the paper ticket at Lyon while passing here.

And yeah, I have a ticket split in Kehl because that’s the only way to get the best price for this connection. Which is also totally logical. Not.

Oh and who’d have thought someone on the Lyon-Dijon-Mulhouse-Strasbourg TGV might want to go to Germany?

Here's my favourite shot of the last night. An angel / phoenix in rainbow tones.

Taken in suburban Newcastle, England.
30s exposure, on an Android phone.
Contrast/colour digitally enhanced.

I would love to know how this new Purpose-Built Student Accommodation block on New City Road in Glasgow managed to get planning permission as it sticks out like a sore thumb and blots out views across the historic buildings of the West End of the city from the equally historic Speirs Wharf.

For some reason I'm reminded of this famous exchange between Dennis Skinner & the Speaker of the House:

DS: 'Half the Tories opposite are crooks'

Speaker: 'Please retract'

DS: 'OK, half the Tories opposite aren't crooks'

Nowadays one might quibble with Skinner's proportions, but the message stands....

Some (qualified) better news on the forced cashless society:

Cash Access UK (set up by the major banks) has committed to have opened 100 community banking hubs by the end of the year. This hubs offer joint services across the constituent banks.

It remains to be seen whether this deal with some of the companies about lack of banking services (including access to cash)... and from a local point of view, when one turns up in the Lune Valley's banking desert.

My timeline is filled with people seeing their first aurora last night and it's so heartwarming. I'm so glad that so many people were able to experience such a wonderful part of our planet.

A common refrain I remember from growing up in Alaska is getting a call from a friend and them saying "The lights are out!" and I'd call a friend and say the same thing and then run outside to see the Northern Lights.

https://apple.news/ArMlB03iMSuu_kZh_nRiBrg. Look, it’s that simple even I could ‘stop the boats’. Make a safe way for these desperate people to actually apply. It really isn’t rocket science. The Tory ‘plan’ is evil and xenophobic.

Really enjoying the pictures everyone is posting of the aurora. Even if it's too cloudy to see it here.

I do find myself wondering...

Who's read (or listened to the audio book) "Day of the triffids"?

I'm super enjoying everyone discovering that the aurora looks almost nothing like it does in photos but is somehow even more magical once you learn how to see it. It's beautiful, isn't it?

Thought when I moved away from Scotland that I'd be lucky to see the #aurora again by chance - never would have thought the next time I'd see it would be 8 years later from the south of England.
