@protonprivacy having taken your customer survey. I can’t help but wonder why you would suggest your building AI versus a full text search.

You know how sometimes when you finish a book and you can’t read any other books because they’re not the one you just finished?

Yeah that’s me right now.

I’ve got two kids, but I’m also a privileged tech worker with a lot of free time relative to people in other situations. And I can’t help but wonder what I could learn or do if my pursuits weren’t economic.

I read a about an ice hauler that gets suddenly sent out of the solar system at relativistic speeds on the back of something that apparently isn't a comet, it starts as a survival story and then turns really interesting and weird.

Do any of you know what I might be talking about?

Big thanks to @jcorbin for walking me through a ton of finer points of I've made my first model!

It's a little late for indie bookstore day but these are bookmarks for my local bookstore.

I'm testing a print in the only color PETG I've got, and will try a 2 color PLA in the morning. I think the inset one would look really good with the letters (and bottom of the bookmark) in black with a white top. 🤔

And if you're every nearby https://www.womrathbooks.com/ !

A sliced GCODE version of both bookmarks. I'm printing them in PETG at 1mm depth. We'll see how it goes :fingers crossed:
A photo of my printer starting it's print. Just some blue outlines for now.

@indutny @kriskowal where can @requiem learn about nodejs internals beyond reading the source? They’d like to know about the concurrency mode and how the vm module fits in and stuff

@tbeseda I've got a web dev question and I think your approach to web dev fits the kind of answer I'm looking for.

I've got a public contact form and it's getting spammed. In 2024 what's the best way to secure that?

Finished a port of a complex side project from to and I’m honestly quite happy.

  • Layouts are great, I had two failed ports to nextjs app directory. I’m not in love with remix’s route api but it works! I don’t have strange edge cases and there’s a js api escape hatch
  • loaders and actions are wonderful, I got rid of a whole ass api server. Having an actual request and response to work with is a breath of fresh air

I can’t decide if the messages and conversations towards the maintainer were actually abusive or if I’ve internalized it as normal behavior.

Some things we build for others to use, there’s a bit of a chosen responsibility to it. The social and capitalist relationships and expectations are all over the map for this kind of work. Ideal? No. Stressful? Sometimes for sure. Willfully abusive? I don’t know.

Guess it wasn’t for me, and it can be for others. 🤔

This just settled a heated discussion in my house.

This is maddness.

Passive js middleware can't do anything for the response except return it or pass control to the next middleware. They usually only modify the request.

So you hijack the writeEnd function of the response and do your maddness there!?

I have built beautiful things on top of I’ve used the majority of its features in production. I’ve sat through sales meetings with redis labs. In my estimation (colored by my needs at the time) they have a paltry feature set on top of core. They are a hosting company who’s hijacked an open source project and funneled money into it to try and solve bigger problems.

I’m still processing but this severance from the community is probably one of the best things that could happen long term.

Was labs not profitable? Was AWS that big of a threat? Did the mind virus of Hashi Corp wanting to push their needs above the communities somehow convince Redis Labs they had to do the same thing to survive?

It's probably a net benefit but async/await killed promise chaining and sometimes it is really intuitive and beautiful.

I think it's because .then isn't a horrible pipeline operator and It lets you treat errors like data instead of exceptions.

It abuses template functions to make shit like this work

await $echo foo

I love it!
