" is a portable . It outputs high-quality sound through a 3.5 mm headphone jack or Bluetooth, has great battery life, and includes a processor that’s powerful enough to support any audio format you can throw at it. It’s also 100% running software, which makes it easy to customize, , and upgrade. Tangara plays what you want to hear, however you want to hear it."

Does anyone use an MP3 player that they would recommend?

I'd want it to support bluetooth and use the not old usb-c port.

The one I'm currently using has the old usb port and when trying to charge it the cable keeps falling out

zrb,
@zrb@astrodon.social avatar

@sashin perhaps the upcoming might be what you want, it's still in pre-production though

@jacqueline have you considered adding an ai dj into to capitalise on the hype?
It could randomly choose songs owned by big record labels and play them more, then upload the plays when Tangara is plugged into a computer. You could then charge users royalties to play their songs, and collect heaps from these big record companies - go public, sell shares, and profit? Thoughts?

My parts arrived today from PCBWay! Thanks @jacqueline for the incredible work. Sensational stuff. Just waiting on my Tigard jtag flasher now to get the software on it!

There are two open source projects I am waiting extremely patiently for:

  1. Pocket Reform laptop
  2. Tangara music player

@skyfaller@jawns.club avatar

I just tried to sync a with an mp3 player from a Mac and was utterly defeated. This used to be so easy!

gPodder seems to be recommended by internet forums, but I couldn't get it to sync.

@jacqueline do you have any ideas for how we might sync podcasts to a from macOS? (I'm not asking you to support the crappy $6 mp3 player I'm messing with now, but I don't have a Tangara to play with yet.)

zrb,
@zrb@astrodon.social avatar

@jacqueline @skyfaller @hailey Along those lines, how difficult would it be to sync progress of podcasts / audiobooks with a server running ?

I understand that the point of is to be an offline device, but keeping listening sessions sync'ed with the server would be very convenient!

(would I need to learn C++ to implement that? I'm more of a 🦀 person myself but I could certainly try!)

So that's how capacitive touch pads work! https://www.crowdsupply.com/cool-tech-zone/tangara/updates/a-deep-dive-into-the-design-of-our-touchwheel

@BlackAzizAnansi Ooh ooh ooh I just saw a new one. If it ends up coming out this looks pretty cool

An open source portable music player not unlike an iPod

One of the people behind the MP3 player project ( @ailurux) has posted the first of a series of technical updates about its design, focussing on the touchwheel. In short, after evaluating a few premade models, they designed their own as a circular capacitative trackpad: https://www.crowdsupply.com/cool-tech-zone/tangara/updates/a-deep-dive-into-the-design-of-our-touchwheel

I am so excited, I just can't hide it... sing

Thanks @jacqueline, @buzzyrobin, @ailurux, @ErinRose and Michelle St Claire for making this device. I am already excited to throw my >10k song FLAC file library at it and listen to it with my dt770pro 250 ohm headphones to them.

decided to print off a quick and dirty nonfunctional/mockup case from the open-source CAD files because I'm excited about the project and want to show my support (disability-tier income means I definitely can't afford to buy one myself, but i really want to see it and its creators flourish!)

Interested in a completely portable media player? Go check out the , designed and made right here in Australia: https://cooltech.zone/tangara/

They've just launched their funding campaign for it on Crowd Supply, and have immediately blown past their goal, so it seems certain they'll be able to make them. But being totally open source software and hardware, you can also just go make your own!

What are some small, FOSS-powered bluetooth music players that y'all like? Smartphones are a bit too large. Bonus points for using SD cards, usb-c (or other non-proprietary things).

My Sansa Zip Clip running is on its way out 😭

@elithebearded the folks behind are fairly active on mastodon. I've also been interested in it but I have no clue how far out it is from being "ready for sale."

Seeing this post I wonder if one could design stickers that make the colourful and themeable like you could theme your winamp back in the 90ies. I would be so hyped. I am already for the device.
