The Hill seems pretty legit to me.

rimu,
@rimu@piefed.social avatar

Seem fine to me. Wikipedia shows nothing interesting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hill_(newspaper)

Also https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/the-hill/ is ok.

However, we really don't need a new poll every day. Maybe once a week?

Can I filter X-Day old accounts as they're likely bots or trolls?

Pretty much the title: I see multiple posts on 3-day old accounts, all promoting disinfo for the RUS, ISR, CHI or some weirdo faction thereof. CanI set a filter on my account to ignore these prolific bastards until they have attained certain age or number of responses that exceed the AI 's smarmy word count?

@rimu@piefed.social avatar

That platform you're testing also has a little icon next to accounts that are less than a week old. ;-)

In that list, only Lemmy has voting or comments in a tree, both key features that make reddit into reddit. If I was going to put together a list of reddit alternatives, those last 3 wouldn't be on it.

rimu,
@rimu@piefed.social avatar

Oh, except hacker news. But it's just one topic, people can't make their own communities/groups/subreddits another key reddit feature.

@rimu@piefed.social avatar

Yes, in that it includes the town with bears story and more!

Why did you choose to create your channel on Odysee?

Human ‘behavioural crisis’ at root of climate breakdown, say scientists (www.theguardian.com)

Record heat, record emissions, record fossil fuel consumption. One month out from Cop28, the world is further than ever from reaching its collective climate goals. At the root of all these problems, according to recent research, is the human “behavioural crisis”, a term coined by an interdisciplinary team of scientists.

rimu,
@rimu@piefed.social avatar

Great to see an article that goes beyond the usual techno-fixes although the focus on individual behaviour is disappointing as others already noted.

I see capitalism, current behavior and culture as different aspects of the same thing. We can't address the climate crisis by tackling just one of those we need to do all of them and we need to do it yesterday. If we seek to make changes in only one area the pushback from the other two will stop it.

Obviously that isn't going to happen, given the political systems humanity has. There is no mechanism for globally coordinated action as a species, especially of the kind that socially engineers new values. The UN is not up to the task.

All we can do is reduce the damage of what is to come.

It's still going although it's morphed quite a bit. Check out https://reddit.com/r/qanoncasualties to see the effects.

Lemmy instance which has not defederated with any other instance.

Hi everyone. I have found many ghost comments in posts. Like one of the posts has 300+ upvotes and 28 comments but when I opened it, there were no comments. I tried different Lemmy apps and it’s the same in all of them. Which leads me to believe that it has something to do with defederation done by Lemmy.ml. Which instance has...

rimu,
@rimu@piefed.social avatar

It's not defederation - hardly any instances block lemmy.ml, not even beehaw.

rimu,
@rimu@piefed.social avatar

No, sorry.

Awesome. You could follow/join the PieFed meta community although as you say posts there are likely to be lost in the flood of other posts. You could follow me on on Mastodon where I pretty much exclusively post about this project - @rimu. Or pop your email address into the form at https://rimu.geek.nz/piefed-comms/?p=subscribe or join the matrix room at https://matrix.to/#/-community:matrix.org

Good idea, thanks!

For a lot of features I've done the barest minimum to get it working and left the finer details and finesse to future developers. There's a lot of ground to cover, need to move fast.

rimu,
@rimu@piefed.social avatar

Yeah. There's that.

But no one's getting rich off posting those stories on Lemmy, or upvoting them in such large numbers. He's like a train-wreck that we can't look away from.

Time to implement a keyword filter for PieFed, I guess.

rimu,
@rimu@piefed.social avatar

Hi Marino,

I've added an 'Active' sort and when using it the date shown is when the most recent comment was made, not when the post was created.

Thanks for this idea!

Cloudflare has been controversial for dragging their feet when it was time to stop providing protection to nazi websites like The Daily Stormer, 8chan and Kiwi Farms. Also the Taliban, ISIS and so on More about this.

For this reason, a lot of fediverse servers do not use CloudFlare.

rimu,
@rimu@piefed.social avatar

Try it and see :)

I'm adding new features every day. However this is very new software so merely achieving the same basic functionality is the main goal, for now.

For developers, the fact that it is written in Python instead of Rust or PHP might be attractive. More info at https://join.piefed.social/

Something I added this week is that when viewing a post in a Beehaw community , a message is shown above the comment input box saying "This post is hosted on beehaw.org which has higher standards of behavior than most places. Be nice.".

Dark mode has been added!

rimu,
@rimu@piefed.social avatar

No blue, got it.

Currently, dark mode is just whatever Bootstrap considers ideal dark mode to be so there's a lot of room for improvement. PieFed includes a theming framework which will make it quick and easy to build custom themes so I expect many more design options will be available in the future.

There are links to piefed.socal but I guess a nice big button front and center on the home page is what it needs.

The blog is Wordpress with the Activitypub plugin. It can be followed on Mastodon/kbin: @piefedadmin
