A couple people have PM’d me asking how I did the screen recordings on iOS 6. Strap in. 🧵

Preamble: QuickTime recording was added in iOS 8, on-device capture in iOS 11. Prior to that, there was no official way to screen record.

My iPod is jailbroken, so I first looked at tweaks. They ranged from lost media, paid but the payment server was broken, or produced terrible quality. I tried a VNC server but I got roughly two frames/second.

‼️ THEY FIXED HIGHLIGHTER BLEND MODES IN 17.1 (FB12223205)

This has been bugging me for years, the highlighter tool would just overlay a stroke at 50% opacity or whatever and would muddy the text underneath. It looks like they fixed this in 17.1 (images 2 and 3)

alright here’s what’s gonna happen:

• chromium gets an iOS port
• someone builds a swift package to convert web views into chromium backed web views (take a shot if it’s called ChromeKit or some shit)
• every PM under the sun is gonna request it get added to their app without so much as a passing thought why beyond “i like chrome. chrome go in app.”

2024 will be the years of misused variable blur effects and chromium web views. I can’t wait!!!

there are many opportunities to take a stand against big tech, but adding friction to people’s ability to freely communicate with others is not the place.

let your users decide if they wanna block threads. if they feel strongly about it, chances are they can figure out how to block a domain themselves.
