Any tips for consoling a four year old who is suddenly very very upset about the idea of death and dying?

We're making it clear he's got a long long long time to be alive yet, as have we, while trying to be real and not tell any fairy stories - but he's very young of course and can't imagine ever being sort of "done" and really really doesn't want to ever die 😭

(Please nothing about climate change etc. in this situation - I'm well aware I've brought a child into a period of change that sucks.)

I like the web monetisation proposal being brought forward by @ppk:

• Beloved sites get sold and dropped or "eaten by AI", and the reason is money.
• For those willing, a trickling micro payment stream could send a few cents every few seconds from a reader's wallet to that of a website owner.
• The readers would control their max rate and max outlay per month, for example.
• The readers could block certain sites/domains from receiving money.
• There are still lots of open questions!

From years of being bored, unsatisfied, or struggling in various jobs and industries, I finally feel like I have come home.

I'm so happy to join an industry with such brilliant, interesting, and gloriously nerdy people - I mean this in the best possible way!

I have attended both Beyond Tellerrand Düsseldorf and CSS Day 2024 and, wow. Huge thank yous to the organisers, speakers, and to the many warm and funny fellow attendees I had the joy to socialise with.

This is my church.

Gardening has just sort of happened to me.

I never understood how it could be interesting. My mother and both her parents were avid gardeners, I couldn't have cared less.

Now I realise it has to do with having your own space in which to garden. It's a privilege. Allotments are so important to those who otherwise have no land around their homes in which to potter and plant.

It's a joy isn't it? Pruning, planting, tending and weeding. Not a chore. A slow, gentle, growing joy.

Is there a hint as to how the post/reply language thing works?

To me it seems it's set by default by the OP for the whole thread, and if it's a German OP their posts are set to German whether they are typing German or English or other languages. This is fine - but my replies to them are automatically marked as German too.

Some things you only remember about an old home country when you return. In this case, the UK:

• Toilet paper is too soft & falls apart easily.
• Softened water makes washing soap off take ages.
• Everything indoors is a little more moist.
• Hiya/seeya!
• Separate hot & cold taps.
• Levers on toilet cisterns.

It's terrible, the people suck, the conversations are boring, the talks are rubbish.

CSS is lame, the web platform needs fixing with layers upon layers of JS, I miss Flash, bring back Dreamweaver, websites should be images with clickable regions.

You're fine. Enjoy whatever it is you're doing instead, we're having an awful time.

Sarah Dyan was introduced as being "very brave" for coming to #CSSDay and talking about utility-first CSS!

I agree but I'm happy to listen :)

My biggest grievance with tailwind in particular is how it's cemented breakpoints, while going fluid feels much better.

It may just be that there's a lag between what CSS can do now, and what surfaces through tailwind and other utility first frameworks.

I dunno 🤷

I guess I think utility styles are a good tool that can be used alongside normal CSS.

In her closing talk @stubbornella is asking for input of what we want out of our Masonry CSS properties.

I feel like we could forever get input into how it should work, and the CSSWG might be able to put something out that covers 99% of wants...

BUT as soon as it's released with whatever constraints it may have - the people that have ideas and can bend CSS to their will (paging @stephenhay and @kizu!) will start subverting it to do something new and different!

So I've been suffering with #PlantarFasciitis for a while, months ago I made a flurry of posts about it because it was so troublesome.

Well, at the conference I'm currently leaving, I did a lot of walking. It hasn't been too much for me energy wise but my feet have complained - I even have a fat blister to show for it!

But you know which foot is fine? My right one. The telltale PF pain spot is fine! It ached a little last night but this morning it's good!

It took over a year to get better.
