I was fortunate to ring in 2024 with my family. The holidays can be joyous, but they can also be lonely, and given the state of the world, the latter would be hard to bear.

A few weeks ago, I was very surprised to receive an email that my story, “Two Hands, Wrapped in Gold,” had been nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Novelette. As is customary, the awards team asked if I wished to accept the nomination or withdraw it from consideration. Unfortunately, I’ve decided to choose the latter option.

Today is #MillionsMissing day - a day to bring awareness of the many people whose lives have been impacted by #MECFS.

I'm lucky that I could get out of bed today and travel to the Nebulas conference. My spouse loaded my powered wheelchair into my car. I'm currently resting in the back seat until my hotel room is ready.

For far too long, this disease has been dismissed and ignored by medical research. #LongCovid has forced a reckoning, but in the meantime, please do not forget that we exist.

Belated #introduction post.

Hi, I'm a science & tech nerd turned science fiction & fantasy author. My first novel (Machinehood - near future AI) was published last year, and my next one (Meru - far future space opera) comes out in Feb.

For the past 5 years, I co-edited Escape Pod, a weekly #scifi podcast. I retired because I've had #LongCovid for almost 2 years, now most likely #mecfs

Really like being here and connecting with friends who didn't show up as often on the bird site.
