Microsoft Recall in Windows 11: in what way can this be POSSIBLY compliant with the requirements of GDPR?

(Same goes for Office365 requiring autosave to stash files in OneDrive, and Outlook slurping all your emails into Microsoft's cloud and using them for AI training.)

sbisson,
@sbisson@mastodon.social avatar

@cstross It’s local. No export. Locally encrypted twice (once as part of the default encrypted file system and then again using the Pluton security processor in the SOC). Plus it’s mainly stored as vector embeddings in a local semantic space…

A new domain specific language from Microsoft aims to help you produce and document consistent, well-designed APIs - for both clients and servers. Write code, emit scaffolding, Open API definitions, and even markdown.

Recent Rereads: Outward Bound. The Jupiter novels were a 1990's attempt to replicate the Heinlein juveniles, by a small group of hard SF writers. This is James Hogan's attempt, a coming-of-age story as a young criminal reaches for the stars. Libertarian space industry propaganda

Recent Rereads: Imperial Earth. Arthur C Clarke was a master of the novel as travelogue. The 500th anniversary of US independence brings a selection of Earth's scattered children home. Titan's Duncan Makenzie is one, though he has his own agenda. A tour of a plausible utopia.

answers from electrical engineers and FPGA/ASIC designers only: any strong preference towards using "combinatorial logic" or "combinational logic"?

sbisson,

@whitequark When I did my EE here in the UK back in the mid 80s it was definitely "combinatorial".

I missed a significant anniversary two days ago: 20 years since @marypcbuk and I got engaged.

Yes, it was by text. She was in London, I was in a keynote at a Microsoft Management Summit conference in Las Vegas. She had a Blackberry, I had a Palm...

We keep a printout on the wall in our office.

Space artists might want to look into NASA's JPL modular habitat system. The mix-n-match modules can be shuffled to make a wide variety of spaceships and habitats.

I needed to get some paper files to my financial advisor. I had photos of them on my phone.

It turns out that the iOS Photos app print option will save photos as PDFs, and Files will concatenate them into a single document! A useful little tip there...

Leap Day should be a holiday. Or rather, you should take any one day off in a Leap Year at any time, in addition to any holiday time. Otherwise your bosses are getting a free day of work from you.

For the last year I've been semi-daily posting "What I'm Listening To Today" links in this thread:

https://mastodon.social/@mcc/108199886340178151

The thread is now so long it is increasingly breaking Mastodon, so I am making a new thread, starting here.

To recap, here's the entirety of the year-one thread in the most impractical possible format: A YouTube playlist containing 246 songs and running for just over 47 hours:
