Today marks the end of an era. Until today, I’ve always had an analogue telephone number attached to my life.

When I was little, it was 63158. Then it was 38099.
(Sadly I don’t remember the numbers after I left home, but I did have my own phone for a bit before moving in with Best Beloved.) Until this day it ended in 017…

Now, it’s cell phone only. We’ve been switched off. There is no longer a dial tone on our analogue phones.

It does. We’ve been letting everyone know about the change for a couple of months, but it certainly feels odd now it’s happened.

I think I'm the only person who didn't know anything about the aurora last night. Anyway, I was far too tired and asleep not long after sunset. Sometimes, though, I wonder how everyone knows about these things except me.

I knew about it, but I reckoned that my location in the bottom right hand corner of Blighty might not get a good view*. Any glow would likely be low in the sky here, and therefore blocked by roofs in the line of sight.

Besides, I was knackered and had to go to bed.

  • I still don’t know if I’m correct in my assumption. I think I’d be quite upset to have missed a good show.

Yikes. Just had a truly terrifying experience.

A reminder for my dentist appointment popped up on my phone! I guess I'd accidentally set the reminder for a week in advance rather than my usual day in advance.

I am definitely not ready for the dentist today NO THANK YOU

We’ve been on another adventure! Giving a lift to a friend from his home in one part of the Medway Towns to collect his repaired car in another part. Then he took us for a light lunch at a local country park.

Very pleasant it was too. The country park bit, that is, not the Medway Towns.

On hold. The least worst hold music for while. I think they choose stuff to drive people away rather than keep them on the line.

I jump every time the automatic "we know you're waiting" message plays, thinking I’m through at last.

Once I am through to an "agent", they’ll gabble their name so fast I'll miss it.

I've given the two dense round shrubs at the front a haircut. One's a juniper of some kind, the other... I can't remember. I did ask here once and someone gave me an answer, but I've forgotten it. Anyway, it's a shrub and it needed a haircut.

They're right at the front of the property, and have a tendency to grow over the public footpath, so I have to trim them to make sure people can still get past. Someone last year advised me to trim every April and August... but, like I said earlier, April was shit so it's May now.

By the way, in case anyone worries, no, there aren't nesting birds in there (too low to the ground, I suspect).

I don't know why I'm telling you all this. It's not very interesting.

I sympathise. Car bodywork repairs I tend to just ignore. It’s just battle damage, and the thing is 16 years old.

Best Beloved has a Galaxy tablet. I wish Samsung and Google would make up their minds about which is running it. The thing drives me nuts!

Shopping expedition with Best Beloved deemed a roaring success.

This is a Good Thing. It means, for one thing, further expeditions are very likely. If there’s a downside, Best Beloved in his wheelchair has to act as an ad hoc shopping trolley. We did rather load him down with bags!

After two nights on the new mattress I feel like I’d have been better kipping on the floor: it’s probably softer!

So, a mattress topper (and a summer duvet while we’re at it) has now been ordered. Hopefully, that will make the bed softer, which will help my back problem.

Who knew beds could be this complicated!

I think the old one was so comfy because it was utterly wrecked. Best Beloved can sleep on the head of pin, but I like something a bit more compliant.
