So my 12 year old kid loves to death: machines, tracks, landscapes, everything. Unfortunately, this is a hobby dominated by grumpy old men, some of whom don't react too cool towards a rainbow family. Are there any familys out there with ? , Germany, wherever? I am thinking exchange of photos or small films, maybe sending stuff to and fro, meetings in Germany at some point. German, English works. Neurodivergent kids/parents welcome.

I’m not a clubby kind of modeller, but I do belong to a couple of online forums. One of them is chiefly about model railways, and very much about the doing as much as the chatting. It also has a fair contingent of members that model European and US railways. I’ll be happy to pass on the link if you like.

The adventure this afternoon went a little awry.

Essentially, it was to deliver Best Beloved to the local ophthalmology hospital for a regular checkup. Easy. We’ve managed to get to the car twice in the past week.

An unscheduled sit-down occurred right outside the front door. Recovering from that, we couldn’t find ANYWHERE to park at the hospital.

We came home. The hospital will be rescheduling. I’m letting the passenger transport folk deal with Best Beloved next time.

Ack.

He grazed a knee, but other than a knock to his confidence and a few aches, he’s okay.

We got help from our neighbour. Lifting Best Beloved back on to his feet is much easier with two!

Good morning. Having completed 'work' for the day already, I think I'll stay here a while, surfing aimlessly while watching the action on the bird feeder station, listening to the rhythmic thunking and watching the patterns of the rain streaming in mini-river systems down the office window.

Got hit and run today! Well, hit and dawdle. Just parked up and the car next to me was leaving, thought he was a bit close, then the whole car wobbled and he KEPT GOING. Honked my horn, got out to shout at him and he just stared at me, the other people, said nothing and drove off super slowly. No apology, nothing.

Really quite cross about it because it's not worth putting through insurance.

Good morning. I don’t feel as perky and cheerful today, maybe that’s just because of the heavy rain or the fact that I didn’t sleep well. Got to go out into the wet to pick up my fit note and pop into the post office. I’d rather go back to sleep. How do you feel today?

My resignation has been accepted. We have parted on good terms.

Now I simply need to finish the work in hand to be able to close off that part of my life.

In case you are wondering what this is all about, I’ve decided to retire and close my railway modelmaking business. It’s a decision that’s been brewing for a few years.

I’ve got two commissions I will complete, and then I’m free to pursue whatever I want - within reason and accounting for caring duties with Best Beloved.

Billy-puss and I braved the outdoors to briefly survey the wreckage of our backyard.

I hate vacuuming. I hate my vacuum, even though I chose it!

The problem is the whirly-brush bit on the front clogs with the combined hair from me and the cat. I need to spend half an hour dismantling the machine to clean it after a vacuuming session.

The other problem is neither floor type setting actually works as expected.

Perhaps I need a better vacuum, or better yet employ a cleaner!

Today marks the end of an era. Until today, I’ve always had an analogue telephone number attached to my life.

When I was little, it was 63158. Then it was 38099.
(Sadly I don’t remember the numbers after I left home, but I did have my own phone for a bit before moving in with Best Beloved.) Until this day it ended in 017…

Now, it’s cell phone only. We’ve been switched off. There is no longer a dial tone on our analogue phones.
