X, formerly Twitter, caught running unlabeled ads in users' Following feeds | TechCrunch (techcrunch.com)

X, the company formerly known as Twitter, has been caught running unlabeled ads in users’ Following feeds, TechCrunch has learned and was able to confirm firsthand. While scrolling the Following feed on a Mac using the Chrome web browser, we encountered a handful of unlabeled ads amid other posts from people we follow, as well...

It’s unclear if the issue is a glitch with X’s advertising platform or a deliberate change intended to deceive consumers into believing some ads are regular posts from accounts they follow.

So, when it’s unclear if these ads are unmarked because Elon is a greedy piece of shit or because he’s an incompetent slob incapable of basic leadership.

I would be doing more programming and more open source work. I would also spend more time doing physical activities like sports. I wouldn’t mind doing gardening for anyone, I also wouldn’t mind automating all their systems. Definetely I’d sleep for one extra hour.

I remember reading in The Mating Mind that since hunter gatherer societies long ago had more leisure time, they could spend it socializing, and growing their brain.

I bought a new Lenovo with Windows 11 preinstalled and apparently if I want to use this laptop I need to have a Microsoft account (lemmy.world)

Is there any way around this? Why is Windows doing this? Don’t get me wrong, I got the laptop to install a Linux distro anyway, but it’s helpful for others (especially my older family members) to just use Windows when they need to print a paper or do a small task, so I would have liked to keep it. Microsoft really lost me...

Yeah that was the plan. Turns out however that Ubuntu, Mint, and Arch and a bunch of other distros all recommend installing Windows first to avoid issues caused by Windows itself (so dual boot is the safest option).

Sadly because I was so fucking pissed at this in the screenshot, I ended up trying to install Arch without setting up Windows first, fucked up my partitions, and spent this entire morning reinstalling Windows from an ISO Image (the Windows 10 worked but not 11 and this Lenovo doesn’t have Audio or TouchPad drivers for Windows 10 so here I am wasting more of this mortal time I have to upgrade to Windows 11, make sure all drivers are working for the few occasions I will be forced to use Windows, and then reattempt to set up Arch Linux or Mint).

Tl;dr: Best to install windows first, then Linux. And also fuck Microsoft.

Yes. Congrats, you now speak Swedish.

Edit: Ah I realize what you meant. Sadly even that does not let you skip logging in. It’s not a skip button, and it didn’t work.

That one does not let you not log in. It just offers some alternatives.

I think they had a very large effect, hence this pathetic pushback from the govt.

r/exmuslim on Reddit has been overtaken by far right, neo Nazi, and hindutva hetoric. Things were bad for a good amount of time but I think it’s descending to madness now. Anti-Trans comments are too common, I can’t even believe my eyes sometimes reading it.

I should have guessed… Mods who made no effort to move should have been a red flag. I can see posts from long ago warning about it being overtaken by far right groups.

And so many posts are screaming to deport people as if they are unaware that they will be mistaken for Muslims in a heartbeat in “the West”

My manager’s manager and I were having a heated debate about why we need documentation in the company (it was a major reason for delays in my team) and he pulled this BS on me: “I’ve been doing this job for 10 years, documentation goes stale.”

Yeah and so does bread. Should that mean we should never bake bread? (obviously a joke, but really, so fucking what if it goes stale and we have to spend an hour a week keeping it up to date? Literally the entire team wants high level docs and he just keeps saying jUsT wRiTe gO0D CoDe or JuST rEAd tHe c0De)

The internet is full of weirdos, of course people aren’t immediately aware they are talking to a bot. They mistake it for an idiot. A tool that tells you which are bots and which are not might be a good solution.

Set against the 12 million school boys and girls who started term on Monday, the government believes the figures show that its ban has been broadly accepted.

Lol the target was like 300 girls tp start with. What a pitiful way to call this a win.

Yeah, I keep getting told by business-savvy people that I don’t understand business and that you always have to grow into your market or even growing into someone else’s, otherwise you’re done for.

But that strategy hasn’t really been working, has it? Why not just be a sustainable business? Focus on ramping up competition only when someone dips into your user base. Don’t hire a couple thousand people only to boot them a year later. They were temp workers all along, just didn’t know it.

I think part of it is that Muslims don’t perceive it as a criticism of the Quran or Islam as a religion, but rather an attack on them as Muslims in society. And that’s probably what Paludan intended. Burning the Quran has taken a new meaning: “Muslims are bad, we don’t want them here”. Of course the interpretation is always in the mind of the person.

I’m against banning. I think it’s a slippery slope and banning the burnings is a poor way to deal with it. For me, as a person who once upon a time used to be a Muslim, the best response to quran burnings is to ignore them and move on with one’s life. It will be challenging for Muslims who perceive it (and rightfully so from their own angle) as an attack against them as a religious and/or ethnic group, especially when performed directly in mosque areas, or during Muslim holidays, a sort of “in your face” gesture.

I hope the Muslim community in Sweden will learn from this experinece. So far, the Easter Riots have not been repeated this year despite many Quran burnings taking place and that is already a good step. Muslim Swedes realize that if a few do harm to the community, it will reflect poorly on them, and that the best way to go is to stay calm and rational, even when your own experinece is so different that you may feel that non-muslim Swedes ‘don’t get it’.

“Usually, in our narrow and sad description of what an employee wants, it’s not money. Clearly it’s more related to the lack of ping-pong tables and extra responsibilities.” 🤡

These people have absolutely forgotten what it means to be an employee.

Send them another book, “The Wright Brothers”. At least their mom was an awesome lady, a goddamn mechanical engineer, and a college graduate. She taught them how to bang on and tinker with stuff and ta-da now we have airplanes.

“post-birth abortions”, what a funny way to say “murder”.

What's something you used to do/see/say but don't anymore because you don't feel it's right?

Me personally? I’ve become much less tolerant of sexist humor. Back in the day, cracking a joke at women’s expense was pretty common when I was a teen. As I’ve matured and become aware to the horrific extent of toxicity and bigotry pervading all tiers of our individualistic society, I’ve come to see how exclusionarly and...
