When vulkan was introduced, Khronos stated that OpenGL wasn't going away.

Latest ARB extension to OpenGL is dated 2019. No extension (vendor specific or otherwise) mention ray tracing in any way.

So I'm inserting 50 million (precalculated) primes to <unordered_set>.

Takes 21.6 seconds.

I replaced the hash function with a trivial one, drops time to 7.8s.

Replaced allocator with a stack allocator, down to 3.6 seconds.

That's still a pretty long time. Ideas?

Stumbled upon an "experienced game programmer's" resume. Three pages of super detailed listings of work tasks, 9 years of experience. Zero mention of any released games.

@mike
Now that I've played a bit more with asciidoc I have to say I'm a bit frustrated with it, especially regarding those graph plugins I mentioned.. every single graph plugin is written in a different language so if, for example, you want ditaa graphs you'll have to install java, etc.

I wanted things to be simpler (and the pdf/epub output is), but this is a bit more complicated than I'd like.

Funnily enough none(!) of the graph generators are written in ruby (asciidoctor is written in ruby)

I tried google's bard and asked it "what is love?" and it didn't answer "baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more", so it's clearly not an actual AI.

"digitally remastered"

Like, okay. Fine. But what else could it be? Analogically? Manually? Optically? With crayons?

Was writing some z80 assembly after a long pause, and I needed to check if space was pressed on the speccy keyboard. I was feeling lazy and didn't feel like looking it up in the docs, so I asked to code it for me. Both google's and microsoft's gave confident, good-looking and entirely wrong answers. I ended up digging up the docs in the end.

Here's my "hello triangle" comparison, opengl/vulkan/directx. Mostly for humour but also kinda scary.

So let's say I'm in the market for my very first 3d printer. Suggestions?

I've looked at a few reviews and listings of "best beginner 3d printer" and everybody lists something completely different.

So, what do people use to design their models? Blender seems to work, but I'm fairly certain there are better tools for technical drawings..

I've seen this kind of stovetop design in some (primarily american?) media, and I wonder..

Why are the controls that control the hot things on top of the hot things?

Sounds like a really unsafe design to me.

@TechConnectify might be able to comment?

Downloaded latest lts. Followed their tutorial installing it in VirtualBox. Terminal doesn't open out of the box. This is definitely the year of linux on the desktop.

steam hardware survey says AVX is now 97.28% meaning it's safe to use, and AVX2 is 93.74% which is pretty safe. (AVS512 is just 9% or less so that hasn't taken off)

So in short, SSE2, SSE3, SSSE3, SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AVX and AVX2 are usable now.

During the past 10 years or so, while working on various c++ projects, I have reiterated the following way too many times:

If this was c, it would already have been done.

Do people have specific laundry days?

I just do laundry whenever we have accumulated enough dirty clothes (and/or are running out of clean ones)

So my 10+ year old Acer laptop I use mostly for AoC had 8 gigs of memory. Manual for said PC is crap ("how to surf the web"), but luckily the model was popular enough that Crucial had a page listing compatible parts. Bought a 16 gig stick. Opened laptop, found out it has two slots. Further googling showed the PC was also sold in a 8+4 memory config, so I opened it up again and tried 16+8. And it worked! I'm honestly surprised.

Had an interesting discussion while walking with my son yesterday.

How do you define indoors vs outdoors?

If you're in a tunnel, is it indoors?

Is it about the amount of ventilation?

If it's about the ventilation, are you indoors on a plane?

Is it the amount of recycled air?

If you're in a big hall, you're clearly indoors, right?

If you're in an airtight artificial biome, is it indoors?

I wonder if the target demographic for the rentable electric scooters is assholes. At least if I consider where people leave the things. Such as sideways parked in the middle of a bicycle lane on a steep hill. Right after a curve.

There's way more shoes in stores these days where you don't need to tie the laces.

My first reaction to this was negative, but then I figured, why?

The first generation of people who never had to have shoes that have laces are now old enough to make decisions about shoe designs.

And they don't like tying laces.

And that is perfectly fine.

I've been tracking the prices people are willing to pay for on ebay.

The auction prices hover around 600€, and some people with more money than sense have gone with 1200€ buy it nows.
