so hard though sometimes to decide what counts as a rarepair. ships that nobody has thought about before except this one weird fic, ships that most people vaguely agree are reasonable but rarely ever write about, ships that have a tiny but dedicated fanclub, ships that get written about with some regularity but can't ever hope to reach the levels of the major ships in the fandom, etc. where on the continuum is something no longer a rare ship?

and the place to put that line changes depending on the size of the fandom too, I feel, making it even harder to be consistent throughout all my bookmarks for many fandoms!

OH BOY canada only fully banned lead paint for households in 2005?!???

lead content was limited to 0.5% by weight in 1976, and canadian manufacturers stopped adding lead at all by 1991 for in-country sale. but. horrifying. even those dates are far too late tbh.

the league of nations began efforts to try to ban lead paint worldwide in 1921!! and the hazards of it were already well known for centuries at that time!!!!

I knew that lead paint usage continued far into the 20th century but I didn't realize that this was DESPITE wide-spread knowledge of the issues with it

but. sigh. lead is extremely cheap, and makes paint look nice and work well. so of course.

FRANCE banned lead paint for the interior and exterior of buildings in 1909! we all could have done that!

APPARENTLY CANDLES FOR SALE IN CANADA ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE WICKS WITH A LEAD CORE. I hate everything.

oh god, the defining canadian trait of comparing ourselves to the USA and saying "we're better than them" strikes again, this time about lead. discourse and action over lead toxicity in canada has been affected for many decades by saying that it's a problem in the USA but not in canada......because there was lots of data about USA blood levels, and almost no data for Canada. so we mostly just shrugged our shoulders and went "eh it's probably not a big deal" and didn't go on to mandate higher testing. also infighting between different canadian federal agencies left lead by the wayside. no, I got into cmedia fandoms by reading cql fanfic, which inspired me to watch cql, which inspired me to get into other cmedia - nif and the mxtx novels! I first watched nif just a couple years ago!

@plalligator ooh a great one! tbh I see them as a V rather than a triangle; I have trouble seeing jingyan/nihuang. but mcs/jingyan is, well, gestures at the show with enthusiasm and mcs/nihuang has sooooo many good dimensions also. and maybe if mcs has someone holding each of his hands they can stop him from making bad choices. nihuang & jingyan TEAMWORK on getting mcs to submit to being cared about!!

@geraineon OH RIGHT! oh man. there's just so much going on there! the secrets between them during their marriage, the way how even after everything is revealed Liyang is still attached to him to some degree because their many happy years together DID happen despite everything..... damn. Liyang is so fascinating. I want to read so much fic examining the complexities of their relationship tbh!

@geraineon ooh yes! over their years of grief-bonding they've accidentally become actual friends! who enjoy each other's company for who they are! they'll still grieve mcs but he'll no longer fester las a reminder of their failures to save him anymore. they're allowed to have nice things occasionally.
