fabula murina (mouse story) CXXXVI
Minimus et Minima resticulam versant, dum Silvius transultat (Minimus and Minima are turning the skipping rope while Silvius jumps). mures cantant "sal, acetum, sinapi, piper" (The mice chant "salt, vinegar, mustard, pepper". #fabulamurina#worldskippingday
@Minimus really enjoying the fables. I was wondering, would you ever consider adding macrons, for those folks who are trying to learn them? I understand if you wouldn't want to, it would be an added hassle.
I don't know why but lately I've been browsing the "popular" page of Reddit, which is full of lurid confessions and complaints. "I cheated on my spouse, Am I The Asshole? My spouse cheated on me and I got mad, Am I The Asshole?" It reminds me of the True Confessions magazines which somehow still existed in 1991 when I worked at a book and magazine shop, though they seemed like something out of the 50s or 60s. Maybe with a slightly higher proportion of non-fiction.
Tired of a particular youtuber prattling on for ten minutes of Opinions about every random piece of linux news, and now even his mugging face on a youtube thumbnail bothers me. It's not the poor guy's fault, that is the hustle you gotta hustle, but I just reached my limit I guess.
@mph what.... what does it even mean to allow interoperation? that's just not even theoretically possible, it would be like turning a non-journaled filesystem in-place into a journaled filesystem
@mph another friend of mine who's followed a similar path just describes himself as a "nihilist" (and does not suffer kindly people who quote the Big Lebowski in response).
He emigrated from the US to Sweden, where his wife was born, because he expects a complete collapse into police-state fascism. He advises all his friends to do the same if they can.
@mph (Of course, I mentioned this to an Esperantist friend who lives in Spain and her response was, literally translated, "He moved to Europe to escape fascism? Oh, honey....")
@mph I have noticed with disappointment the degree to which "populism" means "right wing know-nothingism" today... Like, the people who are proud of it and the people who criticize it agree that it is the same terrible right-wing thing. Whereas originally it wasn't that at all.
This is interesting... the tack Schiff is taking is not "you can do this" or "you can't do this" but "you have to admit in public that you did it" which is more than they're doing right now.
there is something inherently crazymaking about the fact that the emails/training warning us about not clicking on emails from outside the organization, come in the form of emails from outside the organization asking us to click on things
I want to decorate my laptops with stickers like cool kids but I don't have any and don't know what I would want to put on them. Maybe esperanto and toki pona stuff.... You're suposed to put your favorite cool hipster programming languages or frameworks on them, but I don't have extremely warm feelings toward any such thing
Eclipse plans acquired: booked a room in Indiana in an area that's going to get about 2 min of totality. I imagine the highway going home is going to be the worst ever, but that's fine.
@mph I've been trying to remember where Lex Fridman's come up before in my online life and I can't remember. I must have listened to something of his at some time. But I don't know what.
He sounds like a person whose life makes the world worse.
