I would kill a significant number of people. Honestly. It’s terrible, but that’s what I’d do.

I would need to plan out in what area would be the best place to do it to maximize effectiveness. Probably start in DC and work my way from there.

Seinfeld slams woke student audiences: “Back when I dated high school girls, they found me hilarious!” (www.thebeaverton.com)

HOLLYWOOD – With his Netflix comedy film Unfrosted debuting to abysmal reviews, 70-year-old comedian Jerry Seinfeld blames the failure on “extreme left, and PC college campus audiences”, unlike in his heyday, when the teenage girls he dated were fans of his comedy.

stinerman,
@stinerman@midwest.social avatar

The thing about Seinfeld and other comedians who aren’t as popular anymore is that they blame the audience for not liking their material. Tastes change over time. The comedian either needs to change their act or live with the consequences that people aren’t going to like their material as much.

Rodney Dangerfield was a great comic for his time. If someone tried to tell the same jokes today, I don’t think he’d get very far. That’s not the fault of the audience. It’s the fault of the comedian. No one owes you a laugh.

stinerman,
@stinerman@midwest.social avatar

I probably used a bad example. I like his comedy, but you hear it and it’s immediately dates itself. It’s the same when you see a old 70s Friar’s Club roast vs a Comedy Central one. The jokes are still funny but trying to take that sensibility and make relevant today would be difficult.

This is why they won’t shop at Aldi. They don’t accept coupons.

Maybe on the weekends. I work during the week. Depends on if I could get flexible scheduling and HQ had Wi-Fi.

I’m here to hopefully enjoy my time on this planet and help my wife do the same. That’s about it.

I’m confused. Are you baffled by the sound at a venue? Is this a structure that baffles sound?

Joking aside, this does look pretty cool.

18+ What's women's thoughts on public masturbation?

I really enjoy masturbating in public. Weather it’s in my car while driving or in a parking lot, parks, bathroom, dressing room. Etc. What are women’s thoughts on this? If you walked past my car or saw me wherever I was, what would be you’re reactions? Would it arouse you? Would you stop and watch/help? Or would it disgust...

I’m sorry officer. Looks like I only bought 3 gallons. I guess you’ll have to…punish…me.

How many divisions has the Supreme Court?

They can order him released but unless they’re going to send a bailiff to try to break him out of federal prison, they’re just words on a sheet of paper.

If you want to be hyper-technical about it, he could order a hit on Trump, but if Trump was already on the ballot and received 270+ EVs, he would be ineligible to be President. His Vice President would take over as President.

If both were assassinated, the Speaker of the House of the newly-seated Congress would become President.

I don’t think you meant that specifically, but yes if ordering a hit is an “official act”, he could conceivably order the murder of anyone who cares to stand against him, including those in Congress who might wish to impeach him or remove him from office.

What would it take for you to stop using the internet or go minimalist on the usage?

I think for me, the internet would have to be totally eclipsed by the enshittification process, for me to revise how I use it and what for. I’ve been online for 28 years now and I am beginning to slow down more and more as time goes on. I used to have been a community seeker, an explorer and a very curious person....

Being retired and living on my grandma’s farm. I could do that today if I had the money. Just tune out everyone and everything. Watch broadcast TV and get movies from the library.

I’ve known people who are the best workers on their team, but put in like 40% effort. Does that count as quiet quitting? IDK.

To be clear, I’m not excusing the article, which is a bad joke. That being said, there are plenty of people out there that are really good at their jobs, but don’t put in full effort. I don’t have a problem with these people at all (really who does 100% effort all of the time?).

Can confirm. It’s a one-way integration.

How do you get rid of bad neighbors?

So our neighbors have been a growing problem for a few months now. They seem to be a flop house for six or seven people, most of them look high all day. They go out and Rev a Harley at 3am, they burn plastic been our houses in a fire pit, they have a new dog every two weeks because they keep getting out and getting hit by...

I don’t agree with the second sentence, but the OP’s options are basically “live with it until they leave of their own accord” or “move yourself.” The government will be no help here unless you know someone in it, especially if it’s a large-ish town.

stinerman,
@stinerman@midwest.social avatar

Technically violations of noise ordinances are criminal, although they’re usually minor misdemeanors. That would cover the bikes revving at 3am. The foul smells of plastic burning is probably also illegal.

Really this most of the rest of it covered under “don’t be a dick.” If someone’s life’s work is to be a dick, we should determine which people want to be dicks and put them in the dick section of town where they can all be dicks without anyone else complaining. It’s just crazy to hear people sticking up for obvious assholes and being “MAH RIGHTS” about it.

@stinerman@midwest.social avatar

Look, your posting history says you’re a reasonable person, and I respect that about you.

We’re not talking people next door protesting some government action. We’re not event talking about people doing something unpopular. We’re talking about people who don’t have the common courtesy to be a good neighbor. It’s “I will do whatever the fuck I want whenever the fuck I want and if I’m bothering other people in my neighborhood then fuck them because no one tells me what to do.” I live in an area where I regularly have to deal with people rolling coal and revving their engines because they want people to know the rules don’t apply to them and no one is going to tell them what to do.

The old rule was “you right to swing your fist ends at my nose.” After COVID it seems like the rule is “I’ll swing my fist wherever the hell I want, and you had better get out of my way.” The local PD has been quiet quitting ever since then unless they can harass some minorities.

World HQ is in Columbus, OH. Represent!

stinerman,
@stinerman@midwest.social avatar

Columbus is kind of known for not being known for anything.

I’ve lived here for a little over 15 years and various places in Ohio for every bit of my 40 years. There are things to like about it (low cost of living compared to the rest of the country, 4 seasons of weather) and things to not like about it (really, too many people for me – I’m from a rural area, and local and state government are not great). I like that it’s kind of a generic Midwestern town. Plenty of sports to watch if you like that kind of thing.

I think it’s underrated. People are moving here like crazy, so maybe they agree, but it’s causing rents to get out of control. I feel bad for those moving here. It’s a lot less affordable than when I came in 15 years ago.

Windows 11 Start menu ads are now rolling out to everyone (www.theverge.com)

Microsoft is starting to enable ads inside the Start menu on Windows 11 for all users. After testing these briefly with Windows Insiders earlier this month, Microsoft has started to distribute update KB5036980 to Windows 11 users this week, which includes “recommendations” for apps from the Microsoft Store in the Start menu....

I’ve been using some Linux flavor for about 15 years. The biggest thing about switching (at least back then) was I knew how to configure Windows just to my liking. With Linux it was a lot more difficult because I had to google everything. Like “how do I change the wallpaper?” How do I get the login screen to appear on the correct monitor, etc. It was just frustrating because I knew how to do this in Windows, but I felt like a major noob again with Linux.

stinerman,

the only viable alternative, for 99% of the population, is Apple

This is largely because Windows and MacOS come preinstalled and that’s how the vast majority of people interact with operating systems. If you had to choose your OS, I’m sure there’d be more choice in the market. Not necessarily Linux, but just more choice in general.

“Free speech absolutist” these days means “you should be required to hear what I say” not “you should be able to say anything you want without government interference.”
