I would kill a significant number of people. Honestly. It’s terrible, but that’s what I’d do.

I would need to plan out in what area would be the best place to do it to maximize effectiveness. Probably start in DC and work my way from there.

4ish years ago when I bought a house I was convinced not to get a house inspection, would it be crazy to get one now just to make sure it's all good?

Was 25 and super nervous, so when the realtor was like “oh yeah they just check for basic stuff, but I looked around and it looks great” I was like “Oh okay, this is so astronomically expensive every penny saved is good…”...

It’s not crazy. You should get one every so often just in case. Better to find a small problem now than a big problem later.

I’m more shocked that you could buy the house without an inspection. My bank required one to give me a loan.

I probably used a bad example. I like his comedy, but you hear it and it’s immediately dates itself. It’s the same when you see a old 70s Friar’s Club roast vs a Comedy Central one. The jokes are still funny but trying to take that sensibility and make relevant today would be difficult.

The thing about Seinfeld and other comedians who aren’t as popular anymore is that they blame the audience for not liking their material. Tastes change over time. The comedian either needs to change their act or live with the consequences that people aren’t going to like their material as much.

Rodney Dangerfield was a great comic for his time. If someone tried to tell the same jokes today, I don’t think he’d get very far. That’s not the fault of the audience. It’s the fault of the comedian. No one owes you a laugh.

Ohio actually has a law that says if you legally change your name within the last 5 years, it has to be on the petition. In the article it mentions that there is no place for a previous name (dead name in this instance) on the petition, and the Secretary of State’s candidate guide doesn’t mention this requirement at all....

Yes. In fact I’ve heard that being unable to dial a phone is something that is common in dreams. That’s how I wake up in a lot of dreams. I’m trying to text someone or dial a phone number and can’t do it.

I think at one time in Nevada (or possibly still) you can get allodial title to property. You don’t have to pay taxes on that. However in practice you’re simply pre-paying property taxes for a certain amount of time.

IANAL, but I recall this being a thing in a few states.

This is a really good point. If someone did violate your copyright, you have to enforce it. Almost no one is going to do that, so it’s effectively not copyrighted.

There’s a lot of “you couldn’t have been murdered because that’s illegal” thinking that somehow putting up a license on your posts stops these AI companies from scraping.

Yes, this is how it works. You give them a license to your posts.

I’ve noticed some people including Copyright notices in posts (mostly to prevent AI use). Is this necessary, or is the creator the automatic copyright owner?

The creator automatically owns the copyright. People can put in license terms, but they’re effectively useless in this context. Let’s say OpenAI violates the copyright on your post (it’s still an open question whether or not training AI on copyrighted data constitutes copyright infringement, but we’ll assume it does). Your only recourse is to sue them if they do this. Because you never registered the copyright, you’re limited to recovering actual damages – if you do register the copyright you can get statutory damages, which are up to $150k per violation. So how much money did you lose on the ability to commercially exploit this post that OpenAI took away from you by copying your posts? Less than the cost to bring the suit, I’m sure.

So the TL;DR here is that the anti-AI licensing thing is only effective if you’re registering the copyright on your posts/comments. And even then, that’s only true if AI training is considered to be copyright infringement.
