Of course they booed Trump. He's even more selfish and self-involved than they are.

What libertarians want is all of the benefits of civilization and none of the responsibilities. Libertarians are simply conservatives boiled down to "I got mine, so fuck you."

As a political philosophy, libertarianism is a barn full of feral cats.

In addition to their shit business practice of stiffing writers like me, the Daily Beast has decided to go all in on the Fox News model of publishing spin as fact.

Biden was talking about the H1N1 pandemic and there's no fucking way the editors don't know that. But they've left this garbage post up anyway.

Boy, remember when we panicked after 911 and passed those cool laws with names like The Patriot Act and The Protect America Act and got rid of all those restrictions on the intelligence community that the intelligence community literally warned America NOT to do because we KNEW the power would abused?

Remember that?

No?

Welcome home, chickens.

Good morning.

New Rule: @mosseri's fascist AI won't let you criticize Trump, even if you're not violating the TOS. You must be polite and respectful of those trying to overthrow democracy. The ironic part being these platforms and the groveling Press will be the very first enterprises immediately crushed by the new authoritarian regime when it takes power.

I note I wasn't given the option of a (LOL) "review" this time either. So at least we've dispensed with that charade.

My son and I went down to Escambia Bay to test camera equipment. As we were walking the west side of the bay, we saw a guy on jetski drifting off Devil's Point. My son (who spends a lot of time on the bay) said, hey, I think that guy is in trouble. I swung the big glass around and sure enough, the ski was clearly disabled and adrift.

1/

stonekettle,

The operator must not have had a phone, or a marine radio, and was obviously trying to signal other boats or shore. There was a small craft advisory, the weather was really lousy, and there wasn't another vessel on the bay (which really should have been a clue for this guy to stay the hell off the water). I waved but he was too far to see us.

So I sent my son back to the car to get the LED emergency signal light that's always under my seat and called the Coast Guard.

2/

stonekettle,

The wind was pushing 10-15 knot, inland fortunately. And the tide was coming in, also good. Set and drift would push him inland instead of out to sea. But it was also pushing him into the middle of bay and further from shore. It didn't help that he had the boat's hood up, which was acting like a sail. He was drifting at about 4 knots I estimate, pretty fast.

My son returned with the signal light and tried to get the guy's attention but he was 2000 yards out now and facing the other way.

3/

stonekettle,

I could see through the big camera that the ski operator was was maybe wearing the most minimal of float coats, utterly inadequate for the conditions. Storm winds, heavy chop, running tides. No light. No radio. No phone. And he didn't make sure the boat was in good operating condition before setting out in heavy weather beyond the small craft's capability.

When I was Navy, you have no idea how many of these idiots we pulled out of the ocean. Some alive. Some not.

You don't know who I'm talking about, do you?

And that's my point. Because one day, a certain congressman known to engage in the sex trafficking of minors and who has a passionate hate for immigrants, somehow completely out of the blue posted about his unofficially "adopted" foreign son from Central America -- the congressman did this after the young man accidentally appeared in one of the congressman's selfies posted to twitter.

A totally heretofore unknown adopted foreign son.

RE: https://www.threads.net/

stonekettle,

The young man's name was allegedly "Nestor."

This would seem to be a big deal. And yet, somehow, despite a Press absolutely obsessed with every titillating detail of every politician's life, there's been almost no mention of Nestor since.

What brings this up? Nothing. Random thought. You know.

Anyway, I'm fascinated by this whole "Catch & Kill" thing the Press did to hide Trump's peccadillos. I wonder if they ever do that for OTHER politicians?

Probably not.

stonekettle,

Addendum: Did I mention the congressman's father is a powerful figure in state politics? And has a habit of suppressing stories about his son? Like, oh, theoretically, a bunch of drunk driving incidents that should have gotten the son disbarred and banned from public office?

No?

Weird. Probably unrelated. Nothing to see here. Move along. Move along.

This. Republicans, and increasingly MAGA, views are unpopular and a minority ideology outside of their brainwashed cult. Without gerrymandering, voter purges and intimidation, disenfranchisement, and the electoral college, they cannot win elections.

Which is why they hate democracy so much.

Trump is a selfish, self-centered, self-involved slob with bad breath who has never once given a single thought to anyone else's comfort, pleasure, or satisfaction.

You are religious fanatics who want to impose your shitty god on my country and I'm NEVER going to allow you to do that. Never. But you can be made to pay for the privilege of attempting to do so, just like everybody else.

Was in the woods yesterday.

Noted a young couple at the trailhead as I was prepping cameras. College age. She was wearing yoga pants and carrying a water bottle. He was in pseudo military garb with boots and camo backpack. Large sheath knife strapped to the pack. She looks she's going for a run, he's got an expression like he's about to take on a gang of bikers. Kind of a weird mix, but okay. No real alarm bells, it's The South.

They head out. I adjust my gear and follow 5 minutes behind.

In the comments, Someone shouted in frustration: CAN NO ONE TELL SARCASM ANYMORE?!

No.

We live in a world where the Republican candidate for president is a self-admitted serial rapist, currently out on bail in four jurisdictions for nearly a hundred felonies, and who once told people to put light bulbs, bleach, and sheep dewormer up their asses and half the country thinks he was sent by their deity to save America.

So, no. No one can tell sarcasm from serious anymore. Thanks for asking.
