Greetings Blue Bird aficionados. We seem to be without our good friend and moderator, @imasnyper, this season. It might take me a while to figure out how Snyper set up the...
Move George down in the lineup! They should definitely do it. I think they will do it eventually, and perhaps they’ll do it soon. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do it to start the series with the Twins
Many commentators don’t see this as a new season, but as an extension of last season as the hitting issues are largely the same as last year’s. Re: changes to hitting coaches, they sent 1 coach (Dave Hudgens) down to AAA and they promoted Don Mattingly from bench coach to offensive coordinator.
I think either Blair or Barker mentioned this. Hitters who’ve just joined the Jays seem to perform pretty well compared to hitters who’ve been with the organization a while. Top 3 hitters by OPS+ ranked 1, 2, 3 (min 2 plate appearances per team games played): 2024: Davis Schneider, Justin Turner, Daulton Varsho (who was ice cold until he started working with his ex-MLB dad this season) 2023: Brandon Belt, Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Jays hitters suffer from two much information, which as Barker points out may be even more unhelpful when you’re already struggling (and prone to over-thinking). (We also know Vladdy is calling all sorts of hitting coaches outside of the organization; Bo’s been working with his ex-MLB dad lately.)
Watching the Phillies last night was something. They seem to have a simpler, see ball-hit ball approach. They pull soft, they push hard to the opposite field. Rough outing for Berríos.
First off: @#$% off, Ford. Second, this continues a trend we’ve seen most prominently under the clown show that is Danielle Smith’s UCP in Alberta: Provincial governments wanting to dictate municipal affairs according to their own political agenda, which I don’t think is healthy for Canadian cities
A downtown Toronto walk along Queen Street West to Simcoe Street, then south down to a new (and disappointing) plaza at the Harbourfront Centre that replaced…
Timestamp: The “Disappointing new Harbourfront Plaza” is at 40:13.
It’s a hockey rink-sized concrete-brick patio with some greyscale variety in stone colour to create visual appeal.
It’s described by the narrator as the cheapest possible replacement for a skating rink that’d fallen into disrepair due to inadequate maintenance. He says that fairs/festivals could make good use of the space but there’s a lack of greenery. He concurs with an anonymous redditor’s description of it as a useless grey concrete space.
I wouldn’t say I’m disappointed. Some more greenery would be nice. But I think it pretty practical. It sounds like there’s a shortage of funds to invest in the space and I hope it is used for many community events
It’s a great meme. I’d say yes you are getting downvotes due to the front page effect (i.e., non-members of this community coming across it on “all” and perpetuating their denial with a downvote). I think the approval rating and # of upvotes will increase as more members of the community check Lemmy and upvote.
I do think perhaps that calling attention to the inhumane practices in cow-derived milk might rattle non-vegans more than something about meat, in that perhaps there’s a recognition of a moral cost to meat but many are naively under the belief that drinking cow-derived milk isn’t wildly inhumane. I suppose there’s a “gotcha!” aspect to the meme that is also likely to rattle non-vegans.
I see this as a for us, by us community, and I wouldn’t be worried about downvotes by non-members; but I answered because I appreciate wanting to know why posts are voted on they way they are. I’m reluctant to mention this because I don’t want to perpetuate the belief that Lemmy is North America- or US-centric, but you posted at what is 6am in North America’s eastern time zone. I think there are more people viewing Lemmy by Subscribed or Local during business/daytime hours and more viewing by All in the middle of the night, etc. I moderate a pretty unpopular Canadian Football community, and I’ve found that downvotes will predominate if I post outside of business hours/during the night; that - combined with my own Lemmy habits - is what most of my reasoning above is based on. I predict this post will have net 15 upvotes a day from now :)
You’re welcome :P Another good strategy is just don’t fret about approval ratings before half a day has gone by. And thanks for contributing to the Lemmy vegan community <3
Male Mandarin Duck preening itself. The female was obscured by vegetation, which is a shame because they have a subtle beauty to them so different from the flashy male....
I love it! The photosheet pretty effectively captures the behaviour, in this case preening. I notice the webbed feet and think “those don’t look too handy for gripping onto a branch”. Do you have a photo from a greater (perceived) distance away to show how high up from the ground they are, etc.?
That’s super unexpected based on their feet. I’d guess there’s an interesting adaptation story there. I love your b-side photos! I agree with you that the female is also beautiful in a more subtle way
If he gets one more he’s setting a new record over Jerry West, Michael Jordan, and Bernard King, all of whom Brunson is currently tied with at 4 consecutive 4-point playoff games
Across brand differences perhaps. I love coconut too but unwanted coconut taste (e.g., coconut base to a mint chocolate chip ice cream) is something to be watchful for
I won’t downvote but I will say that I personally don’t think unfounded discriminating/stereotyping against nationalities or continents is desirable in a vegan community
there are hundreds of years of documented history confirming that the discrimination against the Fr×nch is entirely warranted in 99 cases out of 100.
Care to enlighten me a bit? One thing I like about the French is that they’re usually quite willing to take to the streets for social revolution. When anti-Black racism was really prevalent in the US in the 20th century (eg, 1960s), Black people were treated much better in France than the US as far as I understand it. France a history of inhumane colonization, like many of the other big players in Europe. That’s my dossier on France at the moment (I guess I’d add that modern English borrowed many cool words from the French language too)
I agree with and know that a lot of what you said is correct. For me, it’s just much easier to supplement omega-3 than it is restrict omega-6 across my entire diet. That convenience is really valuable to me. I do a generous tablespoon of ground chia seeds stirred in water daily for my omega-3s, as opposed to a capsule.
Also, if you’re a vegan, there are somethings you should probably take via supplements, B12 being the most notorious example; pretty much every vegan (and many omnis) should take B12 supplements. (B12 is produced by bacteria and doesn’t occur in plants.) Being supplement-wise is important as a vegan. There are a lot of scams out there, but avoiding supplements altogether is ill-advised and in the case of B12 likely deleterious to one’s health.
Edit: There aren’t citations to this but the reasoning is pretty sound; for anyone interested in more discussion about the value of supplementation for vegans (they’re pro): philosophicalvegan.com/…/Natural_vs_Supplementati…
