#ev #maps #evChargers how hard is it to get a complete map of EV chargers?
Apparently very hard.

Around my apartment building there are 2 chargers. 1 of them has been here a few years (Allego), the other was installed last year (Vattenfall). But some map apps show one but not the other and vice versa.

#AppleMaps is aware of both of them though, but that app doesn’t show the costs.

A screenshot of another EV charge map app that can show the location and costs of the Allego charger, and through Apple Maps accidentally the location of the Vattenfall charger without the costs information.

@madjo, maybe. But without an app like OsmAnd or @organicmaps, it might be a bit technical. Stations are mapped using https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:amenity%3Dcharging_station, which can be found using https://overpass-turbo.eu/?template=key-value&key=amenity&value=charging_station. Move the map there to your location and press the run button. That marks them on the map and also gives you a list in textform.

@blinry guess I have two modes and one thinks using language. While reading the question, my inner voice asked if I do have an inner voice. But the voice has no sound, more like abstract speech linked to mental processes. And it only speaks in situations that could have been a discussion with someone. Like an internal feedback loop that challenges my conclusion. The other mode has no inner monologue, like when thinking about abstract things or programming.

@blinry but sometimes the inner voice kicks in, like when endlessly looking for a bug and finally finding it, saying something like "yeah, of course".

@organicmaps, the almost instant public transport routing is a really nice feature :). Are you planning to also support trams and busses? Do you have a linter to find not-connected station entrances? How do you handle railway stations entrances?

I'm trying to use Google Maps on Android

bg: Google only hires "Smart People" supposedly

observation: a large chunk of my screen is currently taken up by a big rect with text in it saying "Francis Xavier Cabrini Day might effect these hours"

you know, when I'm trying to look at their fricking map

  1. who the F is F.X.C?!

  2. why are you telling me this?

  3. did you notice I'm in Google Maps and just did a search for "such-and-such" and what your app is doing in insane and anti-ergonomic?

It never gets old.

The Longchamp park in Marseilles according to Google Maps. A single green polygon and a few grey paths. That's it.

@wilbr @wahlatlas @jeremy @opencage and that is only the subset that the default map on osm.org renders. The area around the Berlin Zoo also has mapped street areas with traffic islands and crossings. Which sadly are only rendered by OsmAnd.

I am new to editing. I deleted that one fast-food location here via the Vespucci Android app. But here it still shows up, even after a day:

But it seems to be just an image, not an actual 'node' (?), as the 'query object search' now doesn't return it anymore.

Did I do something wrong? 🤔

@nobodyinperson @openstreetmap cool you started to edit OSM :). Do you know @streetcomplete for Android? It is much easier to use for common changes like that (marking a shop as vacant or adding new ones), but does not allow to edit entries directly as with Vespucci.

@nobodyinperson @openstreetmap @streetcomplete opening hours, shops and surface type really make a difference in my opinion. OsmAnd can use all (like showing open shops and avoiding certain surfaces for bicycle journeys) and @organicmaps the first two.

@mlundblad the vector support sounds very interesting. Do you think it would be possible to render some "newer" features like 'highways' with a surrounding 'area:highway' to estimate the width, or footway crossings with markings (zebra, dashes, ...)? Thanks :).

I'm mainly asking because the local OSM group in Berlin started to map 'area:highway' for main roads and I'm still looking for cool rendering as motivation to continue :). The idea is to have all data directly in OSM to create a map like https://strassenraumkarte.osm-berlin.org/, which partly uses official Berlin map data at the moment.
