Skończmy z promocją ogólnej nazwy "pszczoły". Krytyka powszechne nadużywanego ogólnego terminu 'pszczoły' zamiast precyzyjnych nazw grup i gatunków oraz promocji tylko jednego znanego nadzorowanego gatunku. Czyli dlaczego nie obchodzę Światowego Dnia Pszczoły.

@mnot @pluralistic We're renaming the Streisand Effect. This might fuck up scientific literature a bit, and search engines will struggle with Rinehart Effect, but the whole academic paper structure and search engines are fucked up anyway. And LLMs will fuck it up too, because there are two famous portraits within a few days of each other.

Dozens of kilometres of the banks of Bug, the border river between Poland and Belarus, are covered with concertina wire. It didn't prevent many immigrants from crossing, but wildlife suffers. I have seen photographs you wouldn't want to see, I don't know how many context warnings I'd have add here before posting them.

@simon @willmcgugan The mantis shrimp story has been challenged, they indeed have more types of color receptors than humans, but https://www.nature.com/articles/nature.2014.14578. As for the Antikythera mechanism – it has been linked to Corinth, not Egypt, but the jump to the Library of Alexandria seems to traceable: Corinth -> Pergamon -> Library of Pergamon -> yeah, that famous ancient library, there was only one. Both those subjects are fascinating, putting them through the word-grinder makes them flat and tasteless.

A short thread about Barbie, drills, and . This is our basic drill with an attachment to make standard size holes in plastic. Today we decided to put the second LoRaWAN gateway up – signals from some sensors didn't get through when the gataway and the antenna lied on the dogs' favorite couch in our tiny house.

A storm is coming, so I'll have to take the gateway down. We've had no rain for ten days straight. I wonder if there's any sense in monitoring our wetlands – they won't be wetlands pretty soon.
