the_medium_kahuna,

Yep. It absolutely never hurts to handle a situation with grace, even if it sucks in the moment.

Republicans soften on federal marijuana reform in a shift that could make it a reality (www.nbcnews.com)

Cannabis reform is moving one step closer to reality at the federal level, with a committee hearing on a bipartisan bill to expand banking services for legal marijuana businesses expected to take place at the end of the month, according to multiple people directly involved in the process....

the_medium_kahuna,

Legalization unfortunately doesn’t always mean expunging past records. And let’s be real, the GOP are greedy enough to make money from legal weed in one state and make more money from private prisons in another.

the_medium_kahuna,

Librarians and teachers are doing the good work out there. I wish our society (US) would do a better job of recognizing how important they are and just let them do their job without having to deal with all this culture war bullshit

the_medium_kahuna,

Good article, thanks for sharing!

Seems like AD methane is better than fracked/drilled methane, for the use cases where methane is necessary (peaker plants until we have enough battery storage, high temp combustion, etc).

the_medium_kahuna,

Broadly, if Joe Manchin is grumpy about something climate-related, I’m happy about it

the_medium_kahuna,

Oh for sure! Speeding up interconnections is important for siting renewables at the pace we need, but not if it means FERC is going to approve NG projects faster too

the_medium_kahuna,

I’ve used Plex off and on for a few years, getting more into it as streaming prices have been rising. What direction are they taking that you don’t particularly like? I’ve also seen Kodi - which I’m intrigued by. Any thoughts there?

the_medium_kahuna,

Totally! Living a less consumerist lifestyle is excellent if that’s your preference - and I think there are serious mental and emotional benefits from trying to live a life aligned with your values. But to build a climate movement, making people feel guilty for individual choices isn’t a winning strategy. People need hope to sustain themselves for the long battle. We need to keep the pressure on governments that can make the policies and regulations that will hold the real sources of emissions - massive businesses - accountable for the harm they’ve done and force them to make the kind of systemic changes we need to draw down emissions as fast as possible.

the_medium_kahuna,

your “carbon footprint” doesn’t exist - it’s a fossil fuel industry talking point. eating less meat may be good for you and make you feel better about yourself, but it’s not a climate solution. we need systems change on a societal scale, and that’s the kind of thing that takes coordinated government action, not “voting with your wallet”

the_medium_kahuna,

tragically, i’m stuck in the US. not sure how i’d even go about trying to get a work visa in the EU. any one country easier than the others?

the_medium_kahuna,

completely unsurprising, but still disappointing

the_medium_kahuna,

I love dead and abandoned malls, and other liminal spaces. they’re like the bones of a crumbling empire
