This post by @louie has caught me exactly the right way.
Before reading this, I would just barge into people’s conversations on social media with not a lot to add (mostly just dumb observations). Ruining their flow.
After reading, I still do that sometimes but 90% of the times I’ll think of something, and then ask myself if I’m contributing anything to the conversation. I still make mistakes (see my recent reply about a pencil) but it helped me reflect on myself more.
The only developmental thing I do nowadays is make Shortcuts, but seeing all these cool #VisionPro implementations like X:florianvates’s Mindr app show me how much different it is from designing and developing for screens.
@tomk It’s not the same for sure, but especially in Vision Pro making shortcuts requires intentional design and deciding how these screens interact with each other/the data flows between. It’s meta development by way of scripting, and you’re able to stand on the shoulders of these developers – plus inform them of how their tools can be used in context.
Sorry to dump, your comment opened a whole in my brain lol
@tomk@viticci You can set it manually in Shortcuts using an Automation and the Music focus filter action, just not the predefined Focus Filter section in Settings
It’s hard juggling between being a tech minimalist who wants the least amount of apps, but also a techie who keeps apps around to see how they develop when they get updates.
I cancelled @1password to move to Apple Passwords, but Apple's solution just isn't there yet. I don't feel confident to make that move. For instance, I moved passwords into a shared group but all of a sudden they're gone from the group. That shouldn't happen!
I just renewed the subscription because 1Password is just a really super good solution! Thx @matt for that subscriptions blog post and for reintroducing the possibility that 1Password is actually worth paying for. 😄
@SENTINELITE@tomk@1password@matt First they nailed it, then they broke it in their own interest of being multi-platform, and forced buggy electron app on their customers
@spitfire@SENTINELITE@tomk@1password Still more reliable, better feeling, and less buggy in my experience than the other options out there, but of course to each their own ✌️
Left my bag in the overground train 😬 I’m happy that my keys have an AirTag AND the bag itself has an AirTag (in a super hidden compartment, thanks Bellroy!). It’s located in a pretty house in Hanwell, London, so I’m fully confident this person will drop it off somewhere and I’ll retrieve everything tomorrow.
@matthewcassinelli Any Bellroy bag has the AirTag compartment. This little label looks useless but you can slide in a tracker from the other side. I have a Venture Sling 9L.
@tomk I don't think "dumb" is the line... or we'd all have to stop posting! It's the troll/deliberate provocation stuff that's the problem (hopefully an admin will jump in, but seriously... I have yet to post anything "smart" and I'm still here).
@simonbs I'm moving to iCloud Keychain thanks to your blog post, and I see that you can now save notes with passwords. So I'm putting my backup codes there now.
By the way, how/where do you store encrypted PDFs? I have those in 1Password but Notes can't lock attachments…
@simonbs I now see that I wasn't clear enough. It's for those situations where you have a scan of your passport or a governmental document, and you don't want to have that as a normal PDF. I used to have those in 1Password but I see that Preview can lock the with a password as well. Notes can't lock notes when they have attachments, so I should just lock the files with Preview.
The Series 9 #AppleWatch finally convinced me that now is the right time to upgrade from my Series 4 watch. I was able to use it a lot longer because it’s in stainless steel, but the time has come.
I mean, the sum of all of the features in this table make this an insanely enticing upgrade.
@tomk My wife is now using my old series 3 and I have the latest SE. Not a single mark on both… And I’m not being extra careful. It’s been in the sand, dust, salt water, bike crashes, hitting walls and furniture…😁
What’s worth noting, I always went for the cheapest bare aluminium case, not the coloured ones!
