The average gender pay gap here in Australia is still 22%!

To help redress that, the first 22 women who message me can have a free code to download my ManReader app for free: http://itunes.apple.com/app/man-reader/id522583774?mt=12

    @stroughtonsmith I loved that Shanghai game. I forget the details now but it had some features that made it far better than most of that type of game. Is it still available anywhere?

    Is anyone using SwiftUI/Xcode Previews in a full app?

    I ten to use (and love) them for initial prototyping but as soon as I start really building the app, I end up tearing them out.

    Once the codebase gets larger than a handful of views, they're too slow almost become annoying — curious if there ways to scale them up?

    @swiftui

    @troz@mastodon.social avatar

    @shnhrrsn @swiftui I like to split my views into small components. Previews work really well for these.

    @jsq You have to give the toolbar and all the ToolbarItems an id. Then add ToolbarCommands() to your commands modifier. The buttons don’t work in Text only mode, but the other 2 modes work as expected.

    How do you folks export macOS apps from Xcode so that they can be opened on another machine? I try things I find online but still my wife's laptop is refusing to open it.

    In her settings it's "Allow apps from App Store and identified developers", is there anything else her laptop might be missing? I notarize the app and send it to her as .app, .zip – nothing works. Tried making a dmg and notarizing afterwards – no luck

    troz,
    @troz@mastodon.social avatar

    @ramzesenok Notarising should make the app work anywhere. Is the laptop running the same version of macOS? What exactly is the error message?

    I’m trying to add voice-over accessibility labels to the menu items in a SwiftUI MenuBarExtra app but nothing I do changes anything. I can add accessibility labels to standard elements in a window, but not to buttons in a MenuBarExtra. Has anyone got this to work?

    Today I started to dig deeper into SwiftData with a blog article by @azamsharp
    https://azamsharp.com/2023/07/04/the-ultimate-swift-data-guide.html

    I’m not done with it, but it helped me to understand some more stuff, although it’s a bit outdated.
    When I’m trough with that, I will do the SwiftData course by @twostraws

    Whatever happened to the Xcode refactor to split something across multiple lines? It was there in early versions of Xcode 15, but I can't find it anymore in Xcode 15.1/15.2.

    troz,
    @troz@mastodon.social avatar

    @tonyarnold I thought it was still there but doesn’t always trigger. Select outside the line and then back in before trying again.

    troz,
    @troz@mastodon.social avatar

    @tonyarnold Hmm. I have Xcode 15.1 and it’s definitely there. I usually use Control-M but it’s visible in the Editor - Structure menu. And with the Command-Shift-A palette if you type “multi”. Do you have any installed extensions that could be conflicted with this?

    People who track time across work and hobbies: what is your approach to remembering to start a timer?

    Once every second year or so, I give time tracking a try, but I always stop after mere days or weeks because I keep forgetting to start a timer.

    troz,
    @troz@mastodon.social avatar

    @simonbs I use the Timing app which tracks which apps I’m using, what files I’m working on and what sites I’m visiting. When working on a paid job, I start and stop timers manually, but if I forget or if I want to edit anything, it works well.

    Is Handoff broken in 14.2.1? I can neither

    • unlock my Mac with my watch
    • send SMS text from Messages
    • trigger Universal Control

    Message forwarding worked earlier this morning but also stopped working now.

    The Apple watch unlock toggle immediately reset to off when I engage it. Watch is signed in to iCloud.

    troz,
    @troz@mastodon.social avatar

    @finestructure I have this regularly after OS updates. Solutions that eventually work are:

    • toggle Handoff off and on on ALL devices (phone, watch, Mac)
    • restart Mac
    • restart Watch

    One of these usually does the trick but if not, I just wait for the next update. The “log into iCloud” message is total nonsense.

    My solution for part 2 of day 5 of takes 8 minutes to run. I’m sure working out a more efficient method would take a lot longer than 8 minutes so when you think about it, this is really quite an efficient solution. 😛

    “There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”

    Today I finished Day 29 of
    It’s the start of a new project and @twostraws said it’s going to be the last easy one and I really don’t know what he means 😂 there where no easy projects, at all.
    Anyway, we going to program another game, that is about guessing words. For that Paul introduced us to some Object-C code to deal with Strings out of data. 💡

    troz,
    @troz@mastodon.social avatar

    @baronetty @twostraws I have enormous respect for @twostraws but describing anything as “easy” makes a lot of assumptions. What is easy for one person may be really difficult for another and they should feel proud for achieving it, not ashamed for finding it difficult.

    troz,
    @troz@mastodon.social avatar

    @twostraws I go to great lengths to try to avoid such descriptions, but I guess I need to try harder ☹️.

    Interestingly, a university-level music teacher that I know has the opposite approach and never tells his students that any piece is difficult.

    I wonder if an iOS app like this exists:

    I’m looking for an app where I can set places where I shop. Then, for each place, I can scan coupon codes. When I’m in the store, it shows me a notification/shortcut to the relevant coupons that I can then scan in the store.

    I’m looking for such app because my grandma often gives me paper coupons that she receives in the mail, and I would prefer if I could put them into my phone instead of bringing them.

    troz,
    @troz@mastodon.social avatar

    @davidbures I use Stocard for all my loyalty cards. It shows me specials and may allow for coupons.
