ist schon großartige Unterhaltung manchmal. Gestern habe ich einen Klamottenhaufen durchsucht und hatte auf einmal ne Regenhose in der Hand. Und dann unwillkürlich "🎶 Ree-gen-hoose 🎶" geträllert – in der Melodie der Jingles von , nem Sender aus dem Rhein-Neckar-Raum, wo ich aufgewachsen bin.

Ich hab so über mich selbst gelacht 😂

@scy Muss jetzt doch mal schauen, was https://www.regenbogen.de inzwischen so spielt. Überraschend viel dasselbe alte Zeug, was sie damals schon gespielt haben, wenn ein paar Minuten Webradio als Test reichen.

Ich hatte erwartet, dass die wie der Oldiesender jeden Tag hinten ein Jahr abschneiden, und vorne ein neues hinzufügen…

@manton Regarding stationery:

There have always been 2 ways to have a stationery:

  1. The one you saw used to be for any app that didn't support stationery: You got a copy made of the file, which was opened instead of the original the user had double-clicked.

  2. Apps that actually support stationery, where the file was opened in the app, and the app had to know to leave the contents in, but mark the file as an unsaved, new document.

AFAIR MacOS X threw out support for type 2. a few years ago.

@chucker Positive thing: If you take it to an actual Apple store (not reseller), they can usually replace the battery in an hour or two. Still need to make a backup, because they expect you to reset it before the operation, but at least it's a quick replacement.

iOS Pros: If a UIView has NO superview, and NO window (i.e. both properties are nil), does that mean it is not on the screen, but rather held somewhere in view purgatory?

@below The root view in a window can of course have a NIL superview.

Beyond that, I would have said NIL window means invisible a few years ago, but I think some views hosted in private objects (like popovers and status items and such) might have a NIL window and still be visible on screen, because there's some internal CGWindow still hosting them.

Also, I think there were some views (or at least cells) that got copied for display, and therefore your original view would never be visible.

    @rooster I understand if you for any reason don't want to answer this, but I'd love to learn if you want to share:

    Do you have any problems with your CV at job interviews? Like, with uninformed people going “women in the military don't exist, must be lying”, or are you circumventing that by being openly out in your job application, or are you using that as a dog whistle to have companies you wouldn't want to join self-eliminate? Or were you in a position where that doesn't come up?

    Hmm… when I open an Apple II disk image in Disk Jockey, it shows the folders and system files, but not any of the HyperCard stacks or the HyperCard IIGS application.

    There goes my attempt at examining a IIGS stack using Hex Fiend to see if it's the same as a Mac stack.

    Weird, I thought Combine's Cancellable would guarantee that when a Cancellable is freed, it implicitly triggers cancel().

    But I can't find that mentioned anywhere in the (sparse) documentation (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/combine/cancellable).

    Anyone remember where that's documented? Or am I hallucinating?

    Hot damn,

    is there no decent filter/effect/fill tool for any of the good digital drawing apps that produces 1-bit dithering?

    Like MacPaint 1.5 basically.

    It's all either an effect to apply a dithering algorithm to a colorful image, or a gradient.

    Tried Acorn, Affinity Designer and Photos, and Aseprite.

    I'm too old to use a pixel tool to draw diagonal lines at 2px spacing

    @ctietze I think the Decker and HyperCard Simulator web sites do dithering. Might even be Atkinson Dither (so better for photos as it maintains contrast better than Floyd-Steinberg). GraphicConverter had some dithers as well.

    I don't want to start a political discussion.

    I wonder, "philosophically" more or less, though, what kind of incentives are missing for so many people.

    Context: There are very loud (maybe majority, maybe minority) voices that want to ban a party that is considered "right wing" in the traditional sense.

    Problem: If you ban the existence of a group that many people associate with, what outlet will they look for, next?

    Is there an attractive alternative so they can participate somewhere else?

    @ctietze The idea behind banning these organizations is that it sends a signal that this isn’t OK. You of course will just drive the hardcore followers underground, but it also sends a signal to casual supporters who just got swept up in the movement that they're not where they think they are, and these political leanings are not OK.

    It also gives the law the tools to investigate people associated with such organizations more readily.

    @ctietze @daniel I’ll just say this: You can’t decide not to punish murderers because some people don't believe in being punished for murder. Some things just aren’t negotiable. Either everyone subscribes to them in the interest of living as a community, or nobody gets them.

    The minimum criterion for a working society is that everyone gets to do what they want, as long as it doesn't keep someone else from exercising the same rights.

    If the M4 MacBook Air were to start at 12 GiB RAM (16 strikes me as unlikely), how much of that would be a reaction to Surface? We’ll never truly know, but their pipeline with this sort of thing surely isn’t three years.

    Of course, it does have impacts on component volume.

    @chucker @pmdj Not sure, but I have a vague memory that German “c't Bitrauschen” podcast mentioned (in ep. 24/10 or 11?) that Turbo Boost doesn't make sense for M or ARM CPUs or something? I wish I remembered the rationale, but I think I heard something like that? If you have a few hours to waste on research, maybe they said it.
