I wish I could after on the guns things but I should not own a gun! I have a history of depression and I super don’t want to have easy access.
That said, put a gun in my hands and I’ll do my part to end fascism. I’m even a fairly decent shot for having only fired a gun 3 different times. Just please take the thing away from me when I rotate out.
Better yet, get me an fpv headset.
When I joined the militia I had promised myself to kill one Fascist – after all, if each of us killed one they would soon be extinct… -George Orwell, Homage to Catalonia
Hey thanks, this is an idea that I hadn’t thought much about and I’ll have to consider it. I also need consider storage and how to get to a range without a car but those things are workable.
As for my mental health, I’m doing well and feel in a good place all around. I got married a year and a half ago and have a stable life. I’m doing good. This will have to be a process if I’m going to buy a rifle but your arguments have opened me to the idea.
I am also interested in the Lemmy opinion of windscribe. My wife really likes them but their app used to brick my computer requiring a hard reset so I don’t use them.
The Chinese government froze meaningful efforts to trace the origins of the coronavirus pandemic, despite publicly declaring it supported an open scientific inquiry, an Associated Press investigation has found....
I think the part that always pissed me off more is that it doesn’t really matter where it came from! No one is really trying to let out a virus to ravage the planet… Unless they’re a bond villain.
We need to figure out where it came from because it’s important to prevent it happening in the future but politicizing it was always pretty fixing stupid.
What is more important is we have a new virus that is brutal and we need to stop or show its spread. My parents were on the Fox News bandwagon and would always tell me that I believe they’re crazy for thinking it came from China. I tried so many times to explain to them, it doesn’t matter where it came from, it’s out, in the global population, and we need to try to mitigate and prevent damage.
I know its easier than ever to dunk on how terrible reddit has gotten, but honestly? What is this? How is is safer to deliver this content to kids viewing reddit on a tablet or PC or in the app? Why even create the bs excuse?...
Honestly I love my tablet for reading manga. I know that as a kid I would have found a way to use it for other things but I think I would consider it for my kid for reading manga and comics. Maybe some type of e ink device…
But I’d rather look at what modern people are doing and saying.
We would too but unfortunately fascists pretend that they’re not fascist by claiming their political party freed the slaves.
This obviously ignores their bigotry and hate for people of color and distaste for women… And well, I digress. Suffice to say that these assholes try to claim they’re not racist despite all the racist bullshit and hate they spread, and they use this claim as proof.
We would love to ignore it but we can’t. Best we can do is inform ourselves.
Holy shit TV Guide! I forgot about those! They’d just show up in the mail every week, I have no idea who was sending them or why but inevitably they’d be in the mailbox!
The first time I went to a friend’s house and they had a guide on the TV my mind was blown!
Oh and Tivo too! I learned about Tivo from a friend and had never even heard of DVR before that! The idea that you could just record TV at will was mind-blowing! I was like, “yeah but where do you put the cassette?”
You know I don’t work with fractions of an inch on a daily basis… Or even monthly. But inevitably a couple times a year it’s relevant. Every single time I have to take 3/4 multiply it by 2 and get 6/8, then I have to subtract 1/8 to get to 5/8. Repeat ad nauseum to get to whatever time fraction is needed.
It’s frustrating and slow and makes me feel dumb.
That said last time I did it, I measured a 1/8th difference between cabinets we ordered from IKEA and the space they went in and I’ll tell you what, I felt like a genius when it all just fit, perfectly.
I’m an American but the $1 burgers from Maccas were a life saver down there. I used to get 2 a day while I hitchhiked. But y’all also have canned tuna with some great flavors!
I was told going down there that it was outrageously expensive. And I found that true when talking about non-essentials, headphones and quality clothes. But groceries were shockingly cheap the entire time I was down there. I could spend $30 on a burger and fries, or I could get a weeks worth of food from woolies or coles.
Even better, the corner store, the gas station really, was owned by coles and I could get milk and eggs (things I want fresh, in small batches) and a small selection of anything else I wanted for the exact same price as the larger stores! This freed me up to get veggies and fruit at the market and always have enough food unlike at home.
While in Australia, I had higher quality food for less money with more convenience. All while getting told by people back home how expensive it was when they visited. Maybe I had a different experience since I went for a year but I live in Seattle now and I miss having a corner store within a 5 minute walk that sold all my essentials.
Also Woolies has their mini stores in the big cities and those things are fire.
It seems as though you underestimate the appeal of billions of dollars. It’s not just the ability to never have to work again. Or power, prestige or any other nonsense. Or even just having tons of money. It’s not greed that makes it appealing.
It’s the security. The safety if knowing you’ll never have to worry about food or housing. That your parents and family will be well taken care of. Your children will be able to have it all, that you’ve set them up for success and they won’t have to struggle. It’s knowing that your best friend who was diagnosed with cancer will have the best care available, wherever that may be in the world, and won’t have to worry about food or housing or anything else while getting better.
You’re either too young to understand or are lacking in empathy.
I’m not saying being a billionaire isn’t inherently immoral. But the reason people take payouts like that are not solely down to greed.
A lot of people are saying they did this job as a teenager, I did it mid 20’s and yes, I liked the job. I never had to deal with customers, I just pushed carts. But people leaving carts in the middle of nowhere were a babe on my existence.
I don’t know how many carts there were in or store but on a normal day and especially a busy day they would be constantly used. Our corrals would all overflow simultaneously if not emptied. And then you have some dipshit who decides they can’t be asked to walk a little further. I had to have a route in order to collect carts and keep our corrals under control. If I had to walk an extra 10 minutes out of my way to get a cart it would set me back 20+ minutes of work, without fail. And if I didn’t collect it then carts would start piling up, without fail. Then you’d get the mixed cart bullshit and you can only push so many mixed carts.
Putting your cart makes the job actually reasonable. You can plan and coordinate and organize yourself to know where to go when to pick up carts. It allows you to predict where carts will end up and efficiently walk so you’re not destroying your body. When people screw with that rhythm the whole thing goes to pot.
I live in the USA and if I want to get rid of my car I would need to be able to cover 70 miles round trip with moderate exercise in a reasonable amount of time. I think if I could cruise at 35MPH (56 KMH) that would be enough to make the switch....
If people are ripping around on dirt bikes already a Surron or similar night be a good bet. The only issue is then you lose it on the ability to pedal. There are similar bikes that also have vin numbers if you actually wanted to go legal at some point but dirt bikes aren’t street legal without extras anyway and it sounds like enforcement is lax.
The electric unicycle idea is also pretty cool. They look to me like skiing but on the street. So you’d actually get exercise even if it’s working different muscles than a bicycle. But if you go that route you’ll need to go the extra mile on safety gear.
As someone else stated, 35mph the whole way is a lot on an ebike, even bringing that down to 30 extends the range a lot. There may be some road or gravel bike that has the range you’re looking for if your flexible on the speed. Those seem more fun imo, but the YouTube channel TailhappyTV has shown off ebikes that go 100 miles on a charge. I haven’t seen the speeds at which they go but in my opinion a long ride means more time to listen to audio books.
With how much some cargo bikes cost that’s pretty reasonable. Cake also has been around for 10 or more years I think, so they should be a solid choice to buy from.
