@rogerparkinson I have 05's which don't seem to work at 3V3 but I know a place I can swap some over tomorrow. I may just stick multiple options on the same device. Belt & braces.
I wondered if I might be able to get a better idea of #RepRap Micron probe height if I used a laser for illumination. Turns out not, but it looked frickin' rad. You can see the flecks of annoying dust on the slide clearly.
The #HomeAssistant Great Network Changeover is complete. I created a dummy device on a Pi Pico to test, then went for it. With #ESPhome, I changed the SSID/pw in "Secrets", made sure there were backup AP's, and for the Athom plugs just connected direct to their AP and edited it. I lost some ESPhome devices but verifying and reinstalling the configs got them back. On a subsequent firmware upgrade one of the switches went off by default instead of on - something to check in the future.
Been using the GoSungrow addon for #HomeAssistant, and iSolarCloud just booted me off. I have a new password and am back on again. Might have to look at extracting the data locally (which frankly is a much better idea anyway).
@vik I use https://github.com/tjhowse/modbus4mqtt to talk to my Sungrow inverter locally. I have a firewall rule that prevents my router making connections to the internet. Sungrow's track record on IoT security isn't super great.
Managed to try the Quirkey #accessibility keyboard out on an #iPad with a USB adaptor, and it seems to work. Certainly well enough for a deeper dive...
Does anyone have details on what caused #DuckDuckGone? Other than (fairly obviously) the Bing API died, there don't seem to be details. Not on The Verge, Arstechnica, Slashdot, just op-eds on search engine monocultures.
#HomeAssistant is going well, but I need to move all the devices to another network SSID and password. Searching for how to do this is basically full of "why would you do that?" but no solutions that don't involve manually diving in to the config "secrets" - followed by replies saying "don't do that!" Well, security is one reason. I can't be alone here, right?
@vik Oh don't get me wrong I'm absolutely agreeing that splitting your iot and normal WiFi is a good idea. When I did it with my network I had far more iot devices than not, and the iot devices were going to be a real hassle to move, so I didn't move them.
Instead I blocked that network off from the Internet and made a new one for my non-iot and moved those instead.
Unless you mean you have reasons to want to keep your ssid as your main network? Fair enough if so! Just trying to help 🙏
Thought, aimed partly in the direction of @Br3nda, I've just been using my laptop's air vent to dry my CPAP, and it occurred to me that it might be possible to make a food dehydrator basically powered by the waste air/heat from a laptop in the same way.
