Attention Christchurch lovers of theatre and Discworld! I'm in this play from 15 to 25 May: https://www.repertory.nz/show/mort/

It's coming together nicely. Some great performances. We're at the point now where I have a rehearsal just about every night until opening, despite all my other commitments, so please come and reward my perseverance!

Discord has rolled out new terms of service on April 15 that remove a user's ability to sue the company by forcing everyone into a forced arbitration process.

These types of clauses are usually secretly inserted into ToS documents right before a company does something extremely shady.

According to Polygon, there's a way to opt-out: https://www.polygon.com/2024/4/20/24134970/discord-arbitration-how-to-opt-out

X rolled out a change that automatically converts all links that have the string “twitter” anywhere in them to “X.”

For example, if someone tweets the link setwitter.com, the X client application will change that link to sex.com.

This is not a joke.

Dear @mozilla
Please, please, please put the RSS indicator back in Firefox.

People need to know about this technology which empowers users over greedy, controlling corporations.

Update: As many have pointed out, you can use @thunderbird as an RSS feed reader, and there are many #firefox add-ons to restore the RSS indicator (one of which I'm already using). But my point is that Firefox needs to lean into RSS as an answer to all the crap that is the modern web, and help educate users about it

Great work, Ingenuity, you will be missed! RIP!

"NASA’s history-making Ingenuity Mars Helicopter has ended its mission at the Red Planet after surpassing expectations and making dozens more flights than planned. While the helicopter remains upright and in communication with ground controllers, imagery of its Jan. 18 flight sent to Earth this week indicates one or more of its rotor blades sustained damage during landing, and it is no longer capable of flight."

72 flights!

I absolutely love @anildash Idea of opt-in full-text search for the How about, creating an bot, that you can mention in your post, and only this post will get indexed and available in a full-text search engine. This could eliminate the negative impacts, such as vulnerability through visibility, while also making it easier to find answers for niche question. Anybody with the skills necessary interested ? https://www.anildash.com/2023/01/16/a-fediverse-search/

I switched to Firefox a few weeks ago and it was remarkably painless for something so absolutely critical and that I need to work reliably, with zero additional friction, every single day.
I cannot stress enough how low-hassle it is to switch from Chrome to a browser with a business model that doesn't rely on tracking you.
Do it.

The term "Xmas" or "X-mas" goes back at least to the 1500s and was based on the Greek letter chi being the start of "Χριστός" (Christ). It was used in church writings for centuries and is NOT a modern attempt to "take Christ out of Christmas." Merry Xmas.

⚠️ 23andMe just sent out an email trying to trick customers into accepting a TOS change that will prevent you from suing them after they literally lost your genome ro thieves.

Do what it says in the email and email arbitrationoptout@23andme.com that you do not agree with the new terms of service and opt out of arbitration.

If you have an account with them, do this right now.

Here’s an email template for what to write: https://www.patreon.com/posts/94164861

Magic spell to find lost items:

When searching fails carefully and as accurately as possible make a drawing of the item. Calm yourself as you draw and focus on the form and materials of the item. Label it. You should find it soon after. (IDK why this works but it does— should it fail you have made a poster that will help others to help you find it. )
