Xbox hardware is starting to look like the worst investment in a decade.

vincentbiret,
@vincentbiret@hachyderm.io avatar

@khalidabuhakmeh ah don't get me started on this.
I think the downfall started way back with the release of the Xbox one. The price point with Kinect was too high. And the one hub vision for TV, games and telecommunications was poorly executed.

This eventually participated in the downfall of Skype, which had market dominance at the time.
Coupled with lack of investments in the OS and the application marketplace... (It's not like the same thing happened with windows phone at the time...)

vincentbiret,
@vincentbiret@hachyderm.io avatar

@khalidabuhakmeh so after sticking with a dumb TV hooked to an Xbox for over a decade, I finally cracked for a Google TV. I'm not super happy about it but at least I have all the apps.

I really hope they take this opportunity to turn around and introduce a Microsoft version of the chrome cast, with the Google Play store, and a kick ass cloud gaming application + a controller for under 100usd.

The Xbox OS and application story is beyond recovery IMHO, and that's sad.

I'm going to Japan soon, so I wanted to talk to one of the experts, Life Where I'm From, about what I should look for when I'm there, and we ended up having a great conversation about why Japan has stayed (relatively) affordable while other developed nations have not!

Hear our conversation in the latest episode of the Urbanist Agenda podcast (currently early-access for Nebula supporters, public release next week).

@notjustbikes just the experience of getting around is sooooo good. Start Google maps, catch a train, you missed a connection? There'll be another one in at worst 15 minutes. So much more civilized than any other place I've seen that I went on a rent for not having this everywhere else including Canada https://hachyderm.io/@vincentbiret/110450801909641696

Right now I'm in Santiago de Chile and I can't sleep because they had the great idea of making every road a one direction 3 lanes mess. The constant rolling noise...

vincentbiret,
@vincentbiret@hachyderm.io avatar

@ahltorp @notjustbikes yep. I just had to take yet another taxi from the airport to downtown Montreal. I know they are finally building a train connection... But we're decades behind the Japanese experience.

's reserve hits 16-year low
"The strategic reserve is holding its lowest amount of maple syrup since 2008," Simon Doré-Ouellet, deputy director general of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers, told BBC.[...]
amount of maple syrup in the national reserve - stored in tens of thousands of barrels in several warehouses across Quebec - has dwindled significantly since 2020. That year, the reserve had more than 103 million lbs.. only 7% of what it was four years ago"
