In the UK we're currently experiencing the hell that is summer (I can't cope in temperatures above 20C, mock if you wish) so wanting to get more into cold brew....
I've definitely found myself leaning more towards escapism in fiction than reading nonfiction. After the last few years I've had enough of reality for a bit.
As others have said, pod machines aren't great for the environment. If you do get one, make sure you know how to recycle them because the sheer volume you will throw away is ridiculous.
That said, pod coffee has its place if you want efficiency. I use my Dolce Gusto on the weekend when I can't be bothered to go to the effort of using my aeropress. The quality is lower but as long as you go into it expecting that it won't be the best thing ever you'll be fine.
I have my aeropress during the week to make my work days a bit better.
Anyone well known who wants to speak out about what's been happening on reddit? Louis Rossmann? Apollo dev? John Oliver (one can dream)... or maybe former Reddit mods who were kicked out?...
Yeah I think there's a lot of value in hearing from non-celebrities and to be honest, people being here because they want to be rather than they're promoting something is just more interesting.
Having a routine- every Sunday I walk into town and get a nice coffee/cake and read for a while and just be around people. If I stay inside for too long I will start to self isolate.
Hobby- I go to a couple of choirs during the week. It helps me get out of the house and it's an activity that stops me dwelling on things. You're usually too busy focusing on the music to think of anything else. Singing also helps you regulate your breathing which is supposed to help with relaxation and sleeping.
Spend time in or around nature, even if that's a pet. Being around green space can help ground you. Being around animals can be a massive boost. Go to the park with a book and spot dogs.
Medication - this has helped me more than anything but isn't for everyone. I also had a few rounds of therapy but didn't get loads out of it, but it may well work for you.
What is something like a hobby or skill that you belive almost anybody should give a try, and what makes your suggestion so good compared to other things?...
Everyone should try to regularly do something that lets them 'play' and be creative, like music, singing, writing, acting, etc. Our day to day is largely rule based so I think it's important to have some time operating outside of that.
Also people should try and do something with their hands (no not that). I've been getting into Lego and jigsaw puzzles as a way of reducing my screen time and it's doing me a lot of good. Picked up crochet recently and going to try and make a baby blanket for my incoming niece.
Brain fog is real, definitely not talked about enough! One of the worst things to come out of being depressed and then being on SSRIs is that I struggle to read these days. I love reading but I don't have much brainpower left to take things in anymore
It was a bit awkward at first, not gonna lie, but I pushed through and ordered a tall iced caramel macchiato. And it did not disappoint! The flavor was great and was surprised that there was no sour aftertaste, very mild.
It can definitely be anxiety inducing ordering from a place like that for the first time. There's a burrito place near me that I still avoid because it's a lot of pressure to know what I want in advance. Choice is good but it can get paralysing at times.
Last night, I used Redact to delete all my comments, then altered the settings to make an exception for one and only one subreddit. To check if I even had comments left in that subreddit, I kept an eye on my comments through Infinity. At first the comments were being deleted one by one, then suddenly it showed a "No comments...
Oh good that's promising. Ultimately this platform generally is only going to work en masse if everyone tries to work with each other. I know they don't have to necessarily, but it's nice to get along
I mean there's Reddit ofc, as well as Twitter in its entirety, Discord is implementing some dumb updates, there are issues with Tumblr as well as everything to do with Meta, and I'm sure there are plenty more (and I haven't even touched other digital media, for example the Sims). Why is it all happening in the span of about a...
I always wanted a cat. I like the stupid little furballs. Can't help it. I know it's irrational and expensive and environmentally suboptimaland you're basically just setting yourself up for inevitable heartbreak, but when they bump their dumb soft heads into me I melt like a chocolate bar on the dash of a black car in the August...
True but if your overall desire is for a pet in general then it's worth considering as an option. Obviously you should only get a pet you want and can look after though.
Reddit was so combative at times, it felt like I was getting into arguments with people on there a lot. I like seeing Lemmy grow and new people join, and I just wanna enjoy it and not argue with people about stupid shit. Let's just all have fun!
