Ok @skyfaller @stumblewyk where are we on my shitty idea:

Assembly language but for RPG magic systems.

@skyfaller @stumblewyk Ok so for all of these cool ideas we need tooling. What about a crappy web IDE with some syntax highlighting and a semi-decent mechanism for error reporting?

That would be easy if/when I get the parser working properly because it's a tree-sitter implementation. You get syntax highlighting and such for free.

Furthermore I am considering a standard library (the Grimoire) with some basic utilities in there. Think it's time for a repo on GitHub yet?

Suppose you had to produce a local computer from scratch, completely independent from existing manufacturers like Intel. (If you need a specific location for this hypothetical, let's say Greater Philadelphia.) No chip fabs in China, Taiwan etc. The tech level and computing power doesn't matter, you can tailor the application to the power of the computer; indie local production is top priority.

What is the best approach? A simple conventional silicon chip? Vacuum tubes? Analog? Mechanical?

@skyfaller if I got to pick it would be biocomputing. Maybe algal? Just a tank of cell colonies doing math and powered by sunlight, fresh water, and nutrient broth. Need more processing or storage power? Split the colony into two tanks and grow some more.

I wish.

@skyfaller I also don’t know enough, but let’s say you’re right and chemical reactions are the key. Then our next job is to frame other problems in those terms so that they might be computed in this manner. I am reminded of the molecular and chemical computing models Luca Cardelli worked on awhile back. Does any of this stuff feel related to you? http://lucacardelli.name/

My wife, who is from Connecticut and not Canada, has apparently become a fan? She keeps raving about how good the Stanley Cup is. Hope the do well this year!

Does anyone in the Philly or greater Philly area know how to get their hands on one of the new blight-resistant American trees? Sapling preferred but would be willing to take seed if no other option.

Gladly willing to pay to support the reintroduction of the native species, especially because I wish to plant one on my property. Have two friends who might also be interested!

@skyfaller Thanks, this is terrific. Also found these folks who have tons of resources!

I am really interested in helping to reintroduce native species to PA, and that starts in my own yard. Science is wonderful!

@skyfaller I believe so. I was going to post about it. I felt it here and friends towns over also felt it.

Every so often I think it would be worth it to build a friends-only file sharing network. Has applications beyond sharing music/movies/etc. especially in high-surveillance and censorship-heavy environments.

Then I wonder if I would just end up rebuilding Syncthing or Tahoe-LAFS. So I don’t do it.

Is this a mistake? Should I build it?

yonkeltron,
@yonkeltron@jawns.club avatar

@skyfaller @yonkeltron if you’re serious, maybe I should be more serious also.

@skyfaller @yonkeltron I started sketches out some code tonight. I have thoughts.

I added to Jawns.club. It's easy to copy emoji from other servers: https://fedi.tips/using-custom-emoji-on-your-mastodon-server/

New emoji: :BLM: :covid19: :no_covid: :nocars: :yesbike: :firefox: :rss: :signal: :tux:

I haven't added any custom emoji from scratch, but Alex has, and I encourage Jawns to submit emoji that you would like to see. Custom emoji can be PNG or GIF files up to 50kb in size, can be still or animated, can contain transparent backgrounds.

I also sorted emoji into categories.

@skyfaller no SVG? We can make it work with PNG!

@skyfaller you got it. Thanks for all your hard mid work!

I'm taking a stab at learning , so here's my attempt at naming various things in Toki Pona:

  • bold jumping spider (cute round hunting bug of moving toward the sky)
  • bee (cute bug of colorful plants)
  • bumblebee (cute round bug of colorful plants)
  • butterfly (bug of peaceful flight)
  • myself (Skyfaller)
  • @Maggie (helpful troll)

@skyfaller @Maggie Toki Pona is great. I am also a Logan fan and recently discovered Mini. https://minilanguage.com/
