Are there any good FOSS podcast players out there? This would be for iOS. If it’s a good enough project I am open to paying for it, the main thing is open source.

I gotta say, Reddit has some stones calling us “landed gentry,” forcefully removing/threatening to remove mods, and demonstrating just a general disdain for their own userbase, then following up it all up with “pwetty pwease buy our stock and tell us your real name” barely half a year later.

Rentlar,

I have not really followed closely what’s happened on Reddit since July besides superupvoting, a new logo, a redesign, r/place again, giving money to prolific posters/commentors.

I ask genuinely to anyone that recently came from Reddit or are still familiar with it: Have redditinc done anything to earn back users’ trust since the APIcalypse?

@Rentlar I am still friends with the mod team I used to work with, we chat a lot on discord. The only thing I’ve heard them say positive is that Reddit has rolled out a few useful mod tools, but a lot of the other tools are still clunky or broken and a lot of requested features are still being ignored. That’s about as close to a compliment as I’ve heard them give

Kingdom Hearts, for all of its much-due ridicule, really does music very well. "Dearly Beloved," which is the menu screen/probably most recognizable theme across all the games, is such a rich and beautiful melody. I just heard Hayward's orchestral arrangement and its very hard not to feel a deep swell of emotions from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxblKlPf89E

Looking to dip my toes into Linux for the first time. I have a 2016 Intel MacBook Pro with pretty solid specs collecting dust right now that I think I’m going to use. Research so far has indicated to me that the two best options for me are likely Mint or Elementary OS. Does anyone have any insight? Also open to other OS’s. I would consider myself decently tech savvy but I am not a programmer or anything. Comfortable dipping into the terminal when the need arises and all that.

@linux

luthis,

Mint is full easy-mode. Definitely try that for your first. You can even run it off the USB as a live distro and get a feel for it. Go for the Gnome desktop version, it is prettier than XFCE, just a little heavier.

Mess around with that, break it, fix it, have fun.

Just finished Blood, Sweat, and Pixels. Really enjoyed it, hungry for another good game dev (especially stories from the industry) book. I’ve read Significant Zero as well but not a ton yet so throw out whatever!

It says something about the current relationship of large corporate apps and users when Slack makes an update - of particular annoyance is that the search bar at the top basically eats the entire border now making it impossible to move the window around unless you make the window sufficiently large - and my immediate thought is “this must have been deliberate in order to make sure Slack takes up as much of my screen as possible.”

It’s hard for me to think of a legitimate reason for how massive that search bar is and why it is so damn close to all the edges at the top making the window virtually immovable unless you greatly expand it.

It’s just malicious design as usual.

Yeah, as soon as it auto-refreshed to the new design, I immediately hit the “Give feedback on the new design” link and expressed my displeasure to the void.

There is nothing I like about the redesign. Nothing. Everything about it makes the experience worse, and it looks like they threw widgets in a bag, shook it up, tossed it on a canvas, and they landed where they landed.

Is it just me or is search on mobile worse too? I find the message I want is often the second or third result now when sorting by “relevant.” Switching back to newest helps.

I’m not put out by an extra step. It’s that, as OP correctly says, I can’t think of an update to a productivity that gave me anything I wanted. Instead updates seem to tell me I’ve been using the app wrong this whole time.
