I have no interest in downvoting you, but I would like to say that on priors, I would be surprised to learn that she saw "Hamas" and "Palestinians" as anything other than a distinction without a difference. She's electively of a set with Lindsey "Nuke Gaza" Graham, and she's voting for Trump apparently now, who has been very vocal about his support for the "kill them all" perspective.

Do you have specific evidence that leads you to believe otherwise, or is it more of a charity in humanity thing?

complementarity

Not going to comment either way on this topic, but for those wondering what this argument is: It's the idea that various jurisdictions do not overlap each other in administration and prosecution of law.

Netanyahu is facing criminal prosecution within his own country. I cannot comment on how that's going, but the case is still on-going.

So the argument here (and I am not saying it's a valid one or anything) is that Netanyahu is facing prosecution for the ICC's indicated crimes and the ICC has an understanding of this "complementarity" notion to prosecution. Ergo, the warrants should not be approved until the case is over in Natanyahu's home country otherwise the ICC is in violation of their own rules.

Again, not commenting on this either way, just I know some people might not know what that argument means.

ramble81,

Sadly I view this as a “net zero” situation. Trump would also abandon Palestine along with Ukraine and Taiwan, so in this instance it doesn’t matter who you end up voting for, but getting Trump has many, many more negatives. So I hope people aren’t using this as their hill to die on for their vote otherwise it puts us in a much worse situation.

I'm so sick of every single medical-related question people have online constantly getting spammed with 'talk to your doctor!!!!'

The way people online constantly say ‘talk to your doctor’ like it’s a panacea is a lot like how medieval peasants weren’t able to read scripture and they just had to trust their clergy’s interpretations...

r3df0x,

Liability is also one of the reasons we don’t have so much of the insanity we used to have. It’s the reason you don’t have to worry as much about poisoned food.

autumn_rain,

“…But Republican legislators continued to express doubt that someone would get in legal trouble for masking because of health concerns, saying law enforcement and prosecutors would use discretion on whether to charge someone. Newton said the bill focuses on criminalizing masks only for the purpose of concealing one’s identity…”

I don’t have faith that people would not get harassed or feel threatened by somebody because they are wearing a mask for health reasons. The law discourages mask use.

rockSlayer,

I hate the 24 hour news cycle too, but this is worth keeping in the back of your mind. When politicians start asking these questions publicly but it doesn’t seem like anything’s changed, it’s because we’re missing information.

Tujio,

No. They just know that Republicans and their cable news sycophants will do the exact thing they did with the Hur report.

Ignore the overall findings, find one sentence in it that spins it negative, soundbite the fuck out of it, and repeat it ad nauseum.

And yes, this is the same thing Trump did. And Obama. And Bush. This has been a standard move for decades. It’s just news now because of the regressive morons in congress and their orange dictator-in-waiting.

TigrisMorte,

Not Voting is a Vote, just as not choosing is a choice. It is simply a Vote for the worse option based upon your judgment. You remain 100% responsible for enabling what happens simply because you didn't do what you could to prevent it.

IrateAnteater,

The analogy kind of falls apart since she is not limited to this guy and Chad. She’s free to choose nothing at all. With Trump vs Biden, there’s no viable third option, and having no president is not one of the options. So the “Trump is worse” argument becomes viable simply because you do have to choose one of them.

glimse,

HMMMM DO I WANT THE GUY THAT ISN’T GOING TO STOP OUR SLIDE TO FASCISM or the guy who is going to accelerate it??

It’s such a tough choice! I don’t know what to do! Maybe I should just not vote so the second guy has a better chance???

MegaUltraChicken,

They didn’t accidentally do shit. They ignored the consequences of their decisions for profit at the expense of everyone else. You don’t get to make $100 billion dollars and feign ignorance about how you got it and the damage you caused to obtain it.

Sorry… you think that the only people who were violent were the ones who got charged?

That’s weird, because that’s not how it usually works.

You said "imprison" in your first message. I didn't misstate shit.

I looped in Tucker because it kinda looked like you asked a question implying a certain answer, and then tried to make fun of me when I provided the answer (which was different than the one you implied).

No?

Your joke was a hyperbolic exaggeration of an imaginary situation where Biden is the primary authority suppressing criticism of Israel. He isn't. Roughly in order, it's local police, then congress (not really), then Biden (not at all). That's why I reacted negatively to the joke, and to your clarification of "actual facts."

I left some room for reasonable interpretation of what you said, since "accuse" can mean either formal or informal and they're very different here. But "imprison" and "federal and state" kind of biases the interpretation towards something formal. But in any case, when I clarified exactly what I think about it, you sent me a clown emoji and got hostile about it and claimed I was changing my position. And you're confused that I'm not being super friendly? There's a big difference between someone not being polite to you and them speaking in bad faith.

I sort of have a hair trigger for this stuff because I'm accustomed at this point to all the propaganda-bots coming out of the woodwork saying "Biden Biden Biden" any time they get a chance to draw some weird tortured-logic connection between him and some unrelated story about something bad. So if it sounded like I jumped down your throat I apologize. But Biden doesn't really have much to do with Israel rejecting the cease fire, or with suppression of the protests, so it's gonna irritate me whenever someone pops into a story to bring his name into the picture out of nowhere.

Originalism would be better named “selective originalism” because it cherry picks specific parts out of context and ignores the rest. A religion of legality.

Network neutrality became policy after Comcast, Verizon, and ATT were all caught throttling Netflix while their own competing services were lagging behind in market share. It was a response to a real problem that was harming competitors and consumers.

Tar_alcaran,

This is totally missing the point. What happened is the equivalent of the bus company calling the supermarket and saying “hey, I’ve noticed a lot of people going to your store. If you want to keep that, you’ve got to pay extra so I don’t drop half the busses from your route”

Florida deputies who fatally shot US airman burst into wrong apartment, attorney says (apnews.com)

Deputies responding to a disturbance call at a Florida apartment complex burst into the wrong unit and fatally shot a Black U.S. Air Force airman who was home alone when they saw he was armed with a gun, an attorney for the man’s family said Wednesday....

stembolts,

Sure, you are allowed to have a firearm. As long as we (the police) never see you with it, or anything shaped like it, on your person ever, even if you are inside your own apartment. Oh, also don’t be black. Black people all have guns all the time. /s

That constitutional right doesn’t feel very constitutional when it’s a death sentence to exercise it.

He’s got a gun! Quick! Murder him as fast as possible!

But we have the right to have them? Oh wait I get it, you have the right to have a firearm but not the right to be alive at the same time, ahh, now it makes sense. Got me with the loophole, no “right to live while bearing arms” in the constitution, but you can bear arms, just gotta forfeit your right to be alive.

admiralteal,

And this right here is the greatest obstacle to long-term change in the current administration's policies on Palestine - because instead of taking a win, the left shouts "look at this bitch eating crackers!" Not to mention your sprinkle of conspiratorial thinking here.

It's clear to anyone who follows the issue but the Biden administration has been moving further and further from Bibi. Not fast enough, but the protests and campaigns are working. The right wing is clearly terrified of them - look at how overwhelmingly they feel a need to put negative coverage on it. But the actual Gaza supporters are the ones shouting loudest that it's a waste of time?? A self-fulfilling prophecy.

Politically it's no-win. Morally it's also no-win; things will be worse for Gaza with Trump in the White House. But people like you are here to tell their allies to give up. Cool.

chaogomu,

Fun fact, this is exactly the sort of situation that Ivermectin was made for. It's an anti-parasite drug.

Her sentence was reduced by “more than four months,” so I don’t know that this is the best example of the broken justice system.

However, I also disagree that people like this should not be given the chance to rehabilitate themselves. Our punitive prison system doesn’t work.
