Today Ill continue gathering some nice resources that helped me as a piercee in a country where there's a lot of misinformation about piercings. As usual, if you are a piercer migrating from reddit and want to take over this space, you are more than welcome, you probably know more than me!...
Didn't even know what a 3rd party app was until the protests (never used reddit on my phone to limit the amount of time spent there, and was never very tech savvy).
Left because of other reasons, like a couple mods of communities I love packing up and leaving and the sheer principle of it all.
Im a very simple person, and used reddit for very specific things. I didn't even check my notifications, and participated on some not very big communities. Didn't even browse the main feed, just opened some tabs with the few subs I wanted to check out, got caught up with the new content that day and moved on to the next tab.
I know Im very much not how the average person interacts with the website.
It's fathers day over here as well (somewhere outside of the US)!
Which is interesting, cause I believe we don't share the same mother's day (october vs may? I think)
Oh yeah same!
Its worse since my mother's bday is close to US mother's day, so something in my brain sometimes shortcircuits cause I already associate the month with gifting my mom something.
Negociation 101: ask for more than you actually expect to get (within reason, you don't want people to think you are a joke).
They ask for backpay not really expecting for backpay, just to give them wiggle room to settle in court for better rights from that moment on.
Last and only time I had to sue someone (and won) my lawyer told me what the usual result of cases like mine is, then we asked for that and like, 20% extra. Then on the mediation we "negociated" for the amount we were really expecting to get.
(This is all personal speculation, Im not a mod, clearing that up just in case).
They are probably not gonna get backpay, but what this could achieve is to force reddit's hand in legally recognizing mod's work from that point on and giving the mods more standing than they have now.
At the very worst, it sends a message and helps to continue bringing to light reddit's shitty practices.
Reminder that you only have until the end of the month if you want to use PowerSuiteDelete to edit all your Reddit comments to say something like the title. After that, there may no longer be a free API available....
Yesterday and the day before I was intimidated by (lemmy /kbin / the fediverse) today Im already more comfortable. Anyone feeling the same, I advice to just mess around commenting and posting, people in here are nice, you'll get the hang of it if you try.
Haven't gone on reddit since the blackout and probably won't go back.
Hope more of us join, so far its been fun.
Although some of the communities I liked to browse on reddit are not yet here, its helping me expand and diversify a bit on the content I usually read, so I ain't complaining.
You can do it!
I had a hard time at first (I always do adapting to new technology things, technology is scary for me and it takes me more time than most). But Im guetting the hang of it and having fun.
I found it helpful to just start posting and commenting where I normally would not, just to get familiar with things (first posts required a couple tries, it happens). It helps build content here and it helps me figure thing out.
And Ive been using https://browse.feddit.de/ to find communities that interest me.
I decided to take a peek at Reddit to see what kind of activity is happening, a good handful of the subreddits I am subscribed to are still super active with posts and commenters....
Oh yeah, Back on reddit I never checked the notifications on my comments. I liked giving the advice but got terrible anxiety when someone answered because I knew there was a fifty-fifty chance of someone flying off the handle. Making it even harder, english ain't my native language and from time to time if Im tired I mess up.
In here people have been so nice, even as Im learning and messing up how to work this platform.
Somedays Im tempted to go back and edit all my (good, evidence based) advice with bad (common misconceptions, misinformation) advice.
But in my life spreading good information in the sea of bullshit is kind of a big personal value... so I haven't had the heart to do that.
But I do share the idea in case someone likes it.
Sharing this idea if anyone wants it. I didn't have the heart to do it myself.
But if you were contributing meaningful things to discussions just... change it into incorrect stuff instead of "fuck spez" or anything that might give them the suspicion that they were edited in mass.
Commenting just to say, you are not alone buddy!
A year or so ago I started on a job that was promising but very quickly found it was not what I expected at all, and very soon after started crying and feeling miserable all the time.
I had dreams where I was fired, and I woke up sad that they were just dreams. It was that bad.
It wasn't that I was exploited or my coworkers were toxic, it was just a very very bad fit for me. Without giving too much detail, I was in that job to help people, but the job had no actual tools or resources to help anyone. So I just had to listen to these terrible stories and take note... and do nothing.
When I quit, instead of another full time job, I came up with a bunch of freelance-ish style of stuff, where I could organice my own day and give myself time to heal ( I know not everyone can do this, but it worked for me). I learned a big lesson on the kinds of jobs I DONT WANT and what Im better off avoiding.
Then decided I wanted to give resources to the people around the country that work in the same position I used to, and through friends and contacts made a course so that people now can have some resources to help.
Your path and what works to get out of this will be unique to you, but don't be afraid to change it up a bit for some time. I hope it works out for you in the end!
NAH Human has to do housework. Roxie has no concept of housework. Roxie just want uppies.
The real asshole here are the laws of physics, what do you mean OP can't be in two places at once?
As it turns out, navel piercings are more complex than they let on. If your piercing is red, you feel it has moved spots since getting it pierced, the skin is thinning out (or thin from the start), or straight up ripped out from your body: you were a most likely a victim of rejection...
In some communities I was already repeating the same advice over and over again like a parrot.
There was so much traffic and desinformation that the same question would pop up 30 times in an hour.
Since some of the comminities I liked I haven't been able to find here, I just... created it. And am slowly filling it in with everything I amassed during my reddit time.
People may find it useful or not, and may begin engaging with it or not (hope not, cause I wasn't born to "mod") but at least I will have all advice and resources in one spot, neat and tidy. And if anyone needs it, it will be there.
Edit: I've been schooled in the comments, this is no longer a thing, they've relented and allowed more control over the censor list. But hey, it's kinda funny still, so, feel free to keep reading if you like......
Yep, that would be exactly the case.
If someone from the US heard us talking to our friends and family in our native tounge, I think a few would have a meltdown.
"Little black crayola pencil" is a common nickname for friends and family (regardless of skin tone).
My grandma, bless her soul, socially changed her name when she was in her 20s from "Mary" to "female black crayola pencil", its the only name she's answered to from that day till the day she died, no one batted an eye.
I dont get it either, Ive been browsing different instances(? and when I find some community I like I search it up in kbin (which Im trying to make my main account I guess) by copying that little bit that comes up that says "copy and paste in your node's search bar", If I cant join from kbin I make a new account and join from there.
Its whatever, Ill figure it out eventually.
Probably she wanted to stall the process as much as posible so that they could bill the service some more before cancelling.
That or they have a script to make the service as hard to cancel as posible and she was just parroting that, without really paying attention to what OP was saying.
NTA How could it be a prank when everybody wins?
She probably felt called out on her chocolate consumption, or was beggining to think someone was messing with her. For the sake of making amends, apologize for upsetting her and tell her you thought you were doing something nice.
Next time you refill the bowl or do something similar, leave a note "noticed you were running low, refilled it for you, love you".
u/spez here, and I've been libelling a third party developer for an app called Artemis (name changed for privacy) who has done nothing but improve the platform and peoples' experience on it, not to mention forcibly ensuring his app will die so that my shareholders will be happier and get more money. AITA?

Why your navel piercing is not healing... Spoiler, its most likely not infected

Welcome to Piercing Advice... I guess
I have piercings, Ive healed plenty and got into reading resources from the APP. I also like making infographics....
First time here. Let me show one of my favorite pictures I've seen on the internet. I wish I knew where it came from. Bunnies rule!
Should communities resort to copying content 1:1 from their respective subreddits to populate Lemmy?
Was just wondering if that was a reasonable and ethical way of growing Lemmy...

I'm normally not someone to post something like this, but in the spirit of contributing to the success of Lemmy, here goes:...
AITA for libelling a third-party developer in order to make myself more money?
