I'm so in love with our clover cover crop this year. It fixes nitrogen, shades the soil, chokes out weeds, helps retain moisture, smells delicious, feeds the bees, and just looks right purdy. #MilkBarnFarm#Hemp

I’ve used grass clippings as garden mulch, it worked pretty well. Little tip, make sure you removed + replace it or till it into the soil after a couple weeks-months. Mine condensed into a thick mat, which water had a hard time penetrating. The only thing that survived it was a massive
Peruvian cactus lol.
Now I just take the grass clippings and mix it with shredded cardboard and kitchen scraps. Good compost.
YSK - You can save mobile.weather.gov to your phones Home Screen and avoid the adds and bloat of other weather apps. https://mobile.weather.gov/
“Why YSK: Many paid and unpaid apps get their information from the National Weather Service (NWS). This information is freely available and paid for though taxes, which the other companies try to profit off of. Skip the BS and just go to the source. It might not be the most polished website, but it’s easily navigable (has an old iOS feel to it).
I can’t give a guide for android users, but for iPhone, open safari and head to “mobile.weather.gov”. Once the website is loaded, click the share icon on the bottom middle of your screen, and then select “add to Home Screen”.
Record heat is dangerous for workers outside. Even so, Governor Abbott just signed a law preventing local communities from enacting laws for mandatory water breaks.
Texas has some really unique qualities that make it attractive. The economics, resources, and location make it stand out.
-massive amounts of cheap, easily developed land.
-high availability of cheap energy (fossil fuels, but also a leader in solar and wind generation).
-no income tax, and cheaper taxes for businesses.
-it’s a financial hub and a manufacturing powerhouse.
-large tech sector
-easy access to the United States-Mexico trade. (this is important as the us moves away from Chinese manufacturing).
-easily taps into cheaper Mexican labor
I’m not a fan of the politics of the state, but it’s probably the best positioned state moving forward. The politics can be fixed. A couple of the points I made could be argued one way or another, but even a couple of them make Texas bound for success.

I, and many others, find the use of ‘loli’ content in this context to be morally questionable. The key concern is the normalization of such behaviors, which can perpetuate and potentially endorse harmful desires. Moreover, even though it involves drawings, it still fosters an environment that is fundamentally based on the sexualization of underage characters.
The sexualization of minors, even in fictional contexts like ‘loli’ content, is where I believe we cross a moral line. Children are a vulnerable and protected group in our society, and any content that even implicitly sexualizes them can contribute to an environment that trivializes or normalizes such exploitation. It’s about maintaining the inviolability and innocence of childhood, a value deeply ingrained in our society.
I get where you’re coming from with the video games comparison, but we’re talking apples and oranges here. The two just aren’t the same. Violent video games, sure, they’re a problem, and I’m not a fan of those either, especially when kids are involved. But this loli content? That’s another level for me.
We’re dealing with stuff that inherently sexualizes minors, albeit in a fictional realm. When something like this becomes just ‘another thing’, a part of everyday life, people may start shrugging off the real-life equivalent too. And that’s what worries me.
Sex education, by the way, isn’t even in the same ballpark. It’s about teaching kids the facts of life, about relationships, about consent. It’s about protection, not exploitation.
As for telling reality from fantasy, most people, sure, they can do that. For me, the line’s pretty clear. Anything that makes it okay to sexualize kids, real or not, that’s a step too far.
I’ve come across some studies on this stuff. One study I found actually found a connection between violent video games and aggressive behavior in teenagers. Now, it wasn’t a massive correlation, but it’s something worth keeping an eye on (https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapediatrics/fullarticle/1850198).
As for evidence of normalization, it’s tricky. The concept of normalization doesn’t necessarily imply a direct cause-effect relationship, like ‘X’ content led to ‘Y’ real-world behavior. It’s more about subtle shifts in societal attitudes over time. It’s challenging to directly measure these shifts, but there are sociological studies that suggest media consumption can influence perceptions and attitudes.(https://www.researchgate.net/publication/22223200_Living_With_Television_The_Violence_Profile)
So, my concerns about Loli aren’t pulled out of thin air. It’s about the potential shift in our societal attitudes towards child exploitation. It’s not easy to put hard numbers on these effects, but given what we know about the impact of media, I think we should avoid it.
Benzene is among the pollutants gas stoves emit into homes, Stanford University researchers show. The toxin is linked to a higher risk of leukemia and other blood cell cancers.
I use propane in my house and I have a love/hate relationship with it. I love the instant heat and instant cool. It works really well to for pan frying.
It’s awful at boiling water. It’s faster to use an electric kettle.
The cost of the propane is horrible too. $4.80+ a gallon.
I’d 1000% move to electric or induction, but it’s just another big expense. I’d also have to run a 208v/30a circuit to my kitchen :(
Electric prices have been steadily rising as well :/
For a sub that’s supposed to promote Reddit alternatives, there sure is a lot of pessimism on there. I see so many people dismissing Lemmy and kbin already for being too inaccessible, the UI is clunky, it’s hard to pick up etc and saying these sites will never take off. But why? Of course a platform in its infancy will have...
It’s Like signing up for a gmail account. You can email yahoo accounts, but your username won’t work to log into yahoo.
I went though the same issues as you. I was able to get a lemmy account and a kbin, and fedia account. Now kbin has enable federation, and the feed is muchhhhh more active. The traffic to the sites have slowed down a bit and they have mostly scaled up their servers. Works great for me now.
I am looking to save all the music I like on hardisks due to the recent closure of rarbg which was a wake up call "unless you save it you don't own it". So if anyone knows a way to download playlists instead of each single song I will be thankful!
I seriously think something like ipfs/filecoin will take off someday. Maybe not those specifically, but I feel like they are on the right track?
Distributed and encrypted file hosting, where hosts are compensated based on how much data they provide/availability. If you could pull files from multiple sources and be closer to the end user (edge), might make for some good results. The one cool feature was that links for files would change if the file changed. Nice security layer.
I realize there is a ton of shit to workout to make that work. It could breath some life into old colo’s. The compensation part is the hard part to work out.
Similar to torrents and p2p, but using a blockchain to verify files and reward transactions.
They had a working version of a YouTube at one point, it was pretty impressive.

Isn't it ironic.... that we all left reddit because 3rd party apps were being killed off, and came to a place where there are no 3rd party apps.
