"Atheists are so mean!" (lemmy.one)

A common trope I see in atheist circles are people (often claiming to be atheists themselves, and I’m sure many genuinely are) going around chiding other atheists for being mean, rude, or otherwise disrespectful to believers. It’s counterproductive! It doesn’t work! It paints us in a bad light!...

If you went to Catholic school, you know believing in God did not make the staff nice and happy at all.

I like the the 2014 quote from the person as a teenager. Makes me think they and their peers worked hard, went up the ladder, and saw the people on the same rung don’t work hard OR that you see others in the hierarchy as less hardworking no matter where you are.

Slaves (forcefully) developed skills to their (master’s) personal benefit! Florida could have a bright plan here to replace its immigrant workforce – imagine if the students were as skilled as slaves!

You don’t need skills like reading, mathematics, negotiating, or critical thinking! Abstract thinking? We live in the real world, not the abstract world.

So much student potential is wasted learning when it could be spent getting to the workforce sooner! You’ll have an income that never goes up, so it’s stable! You can’t count that high anyway! And you’ll have the same job for the rest of your life, so it’s stable! Who enjoys updating their resume, being interviewed, and getting rejected? Not me!

I have had calls from similar numbers to my own, and seen caller ID’s for people that aren’t contacts. I haven’t picked them up, but the temptation was there to do so.

How often have games made you do a double take in real life? (i.imgur.com)

Maybe you see a plant you have to collect in game or a rock wall that looks different. What items have you caught out of the corner of your eye that you realized was just your brain so focused on looking for things in a game that you saw it IRL and made you double take?

I used to imagine using a portal gun on various buildings to get to school.

If people hadn't tried so hard to get it to say outrageous things, there would likely be less stringent restrictions.

The people who cause this mischief are the ones ruining free speech.

You were polite, so it couldn’t assume malice. It costs nothing to be polite :)

Gotta agree. On the left, I’m drawn straight to the secondary set of symbols.

On the right, the “distinct segments” are more distinct to me, because of the colors. Primary symbols, All Clear(?), numpad catch me first. Then I notice the lack of shapes and color on the secondary set of symbols.

Not who you’re replying to, but I don’t like the giant album art menus. Save that for a now playing screen that should still be able to be shrunk down.

The Original Pikmin still holds up incredibly well (lemmy.world)

So I consider myself a very casual Pikmin fan. I haven't played the first 2 since they came out for the GameCube, and have only played some of the 3rd one back on WiiU. So with Pikmin 4 around the corner and Nintendo shadow dropping the first two on Switch, I figured it was time for a replay....

Obfuscating the number of deaths might help. The running total and the graph of deaths over time in the day are painful to look at.

I’d also add that if they drop a seed when they die, the death isn’t counted against you. Or have helpful Pikmin ghosts because that sounds like a Nintendo thing to do.

Yep. Self care, but you need to sit in traffic, come to the office, do the work of two people on a project that has unrealistic deadlines, for pay that lets you enjoy absolutely nothing in the free time you do have. And absolutely no self-care on company time.

Here's why people are being so mean about the Titan going down - CBC (www.cbc.ca)

I have to say I’m not sure what they were hoping for, the discourse hasn’t felt overly mean by internet standards, but maybe that’s just my bubble. I’m sorry they died, but now that we know all the details it’s a bit like the guy that decided to hike up a lava field last year....

Assuming things are taken care of financially, I would pick the fancy boat. It sounds like a lot of fun to be on one and I like being in water. I wouldn’t pick the car because I feel like it’ll have the same experience as a car, just slightly nicer. Maybe with a chauffeur…

I agree with doing things thoughtfully. My handwriting is better when I slow down, and it looks good! I can take a moment to be proud of how it looks!

Left fits the current flat, minimalist aesthetic. But I want to like right more lol

I’d be more concerned whether it has enough RAM, Racks for Allocating Mugs. Those take up so much space!

I love these articles because it makes me hopeful for the future. I used to see them in a community called wheresthebeef.

I liked KBin for including other fediverse posts in the feed, and slightly the UI. I went through the TOS and some Lemmy instances I couldn’t even find them.
