Science and expert opinion should be respected, "your own research" is usually worthless, Black Lives Matter, Taiwan is a country, Love is Love, and Trans Rights are Human Rights.

No nazis or tankies, thanks.

They also made bikes and motorcycles, which I think is kinda funny.

Funny thing is, there's literally a dungeon crawler themed cooking anime this season all about eating megadungeon monsters. It's called Delicious in Dungeon.

Much better for a science district IMO. Look at all those mountains

The GOP platform is now whatever a spoiled, narcissistic old fart is in his 70s is annoyed about today and I'm expected to just take these people seriously. I have to interact with them on a daily basis. There are tens of millions of the fuckers at least. How is this real life?

Jesus lived in a region conquered by the Roman Empire. Many of his fans at the time wanted him to be a conquering ruler and overthrow them. His answer in the text amounted to, "that's not why I'm here." Nominal Christians trying to install a Christian Government have missed the point of their own text so hard it's actually kinda funny.

Jesus: Share resources among those that need them, it's very hard for rich people to enter heaven.

His Followers: Temporarily embarrassed billionaires who idolize wealth and build literal golden statues of their favorite rich guy.

Jesus: Hangs out with tax collectors (i.e., agents of the Romans, who were not popular), hookers, low status foreigners, and people with terminal diseases.

His Followers: Ew, drag queens and brown people. Gross.

Jesus: Encourages non-violent responses to his own capture pending execution. Tells many parables about forgiveness and treating foreigners as neighbors.

His Followers: Immigrants are invading us! They terk our jerbs! BOMB IRAN!

Anyone seeing a pattern here? The reality is that Christianity isn't really a belief system for them, it's a cultural identity or tribal marker. You don't have to actually believe any of this shit or behave accordingly. All you have to do is say the right words and present the right image. Right wing Evangelical Christianity is a hollowed out husk; an empty aesthetic presenting as a belief system that promises that anything you do will be wiped away if you say the right words and give money to whatever charlatan is giving his Dollar General Ted Talk today.

What the fuck? The CCP is no more Communist than North Korea is a Democratic Republic. I don't give a shit about the CCP's ideas because there's only one they seem to care about: power. You can tell because of how they treat their own people. Corporations operating out of China are either controlled by the CCP behind the scenes or their leadership gets disappeared if they get too critical. It's happened a number of times; ask Jack Ma and several others ... if you can find them.

The fucking CCP is every bit as bad as the damned Nazis and anyone that simps for them should go live under their regime. I'm sure you'll have a great social credit score. Just don't depict Emperor Xi as Winnie the Pooh or watch the fuck out.

Cylusthevirus,

Then what's the stuff in your original post about "being afraid of ideas?" Which ideas, exactly, were you referring to? Being nominally Communist and functionally Fascist?

The CCP are not an ethnic or national group, they're a malevolent political movement and opposing them is the farthest thing from xenophobia. They run China and create untold misery for Chinese citizens. Being originally from Singapore does not mean you're not working for the CCP and that is absolutely relevant to this situation. Data privacy is one issue, nation state surveillance is another. There are quantitative and qualitative differences between them and both must be addressed. Google, Meta, and Amazon et al need to be reigned in, broken up, and some board members should see jail time. TikTok, (yet another front for the CCP like ALL Chinese Corps), needs to be handled differently and the CCP's malfeasance should be exposed and talked about.

Compare and contrast Huawei and say, Cisco. Cisco's equipment is occasionally annoying and bad for consumers and their business practices suck. Huawei equipment is a national security risk. Big difference and you can't even get into that without referencing the CCP because they're driving it.

Tom Cotton's a dipshit and worded the question in the dumbest possible way, but stopped clock, etc.

Man Displays Father’s Severed Head in Horrific Video Railing Against Biden, Immigration, ‘Far-Left Woke Mobs’ (www.mediaite.com)

Justin Mohn, a 32-year-old Pennsylvania man, is in police custody after allegedly murdering and decapitating his father, claiming the latter was a "federal employee" and a "traitor." Before his arrest, Mohn posted a 14-minute video to YouTube in which he displayed his father's severed head, proclaiming: "This is the head of Mike...

That's in Seattle sweetheart, try again.

Nah they just lit vehicles on fire instead.

Oh noes, you can't spread plague whenever, wherever. What of your constitutionally guaranteed rights to put someone's grandma in the ICU?

And you get a truck 3 dudes can pull backwards with a top speed of like 36mph. It's basically a very robust power wheels.

BYD is coming for Europe—but high labor costs, connectivity issues, and stubbornly loyal customers might trip up the Warren Buffett-backed EV maker that’s leaving competitors in a ‘state of shock’ (fortune.com)

If you asked the typical European or American about BYD a couple of years ago, only the biggest petrol-head or an astute follower of Warren Buffett’s portfolio could have given you a confident answer on what the company does....

Well no, of course they don't. But this company's options will be a) don't do that in Euro autos or b) don't do business in the EU. Which do you think they'll pick?

Complexity and additional maintenance. Anytime someone introduces stuff like this they should think about reliability. More doodads = more shit that can break.

Unless you parallel park constantly and can't make the existing methods of doing that work, I suspect this may not be worth it.

Conservatives wanted “mental acuity” to be a top 2024 election issue. It’s blowing up in their face (www.lgbtqnation.com)

In what’s looking like one of the most bizarre choices of the 2024 election season, Republicans decided to make “mental acuity” a key issue in the presidential race – despite their likely candidate’s inability to form coherent thoughts anymore....

There is a mountain of statistical evidence for the concept of general intelligence.

While there's been many racist ideas surrounding it, it's both measurable and highly predictive of many outcomes even controlling for things like ethnicity and socioeconomic status.

This article dismisses standardized tests as a general practice without even a word about their content or structure. That right there should damage its credibility.

Cylusthevirus,
Cylusthevirus avatar

Tell you what, why don't you define "standardized test" for me, because there are literally thousands of them with varying assumptions, methods of construction, purposes, etc. And your article doesn't challenge standardized testing OR IQ as a construct, it simply introduces motivation and discipline as additional factors impacting performance and ... yeah, we knew that already. Not a new thing. There's a name for the construct in psych: conscientiousness. It's one of the main big 5 model of personality traits (which is one of the better models out there, very stable, derived via factor analysis).

Anyway, this has become a common malady these days. Psychologists call it splitting. It used to be associated with bipolar disorder, but we live in such a complex world that I think it's become a sort of coping mechanism for many.

People want a simple world that makes sense with good guys and bad guys. If only this tendency wasn't so exploitable.

Boeing 747 makes emergency landing in Florida after ‘engine malfunction’ (www.theguardian.com)

It was actually a pretty safe year for aviation. Yeah, there have been problems, but you're more likely to be inconvenienced than anything. Hope you have an excellent vacation!
