It’s one thing to have differing views, but I’ve seen enough attempted reddit migrations to be relieved that the popular communities in the fediverse so far haven’t been about crazy racist stuff or other extreme right bullshit....
@ernest how do I report a Magazin on kbin.social ? There is a usere called "ps" who is posting to his own "antiwoke" Magazin on kbin.social. Please remove this and dont give them a chance to etablish them self on kbin.social. When I report his stuff it will go to him because he is the moderator of the magazin? Seems like a...
That's not nuance, that's just ignorance and a knee-jerk reaction to a very complicated issue which has to be left to experts, who, in addition to being normal people with compassion and love like most of us towards their fellow humans, know the most about their topic of expertise than any of us.
If you were as "well read" as you think you are, you would know how much bullshit you're spewing right now. Especially about children getting the gender affirming care they need without any need interference from "well-mean" idiots like you.
Your "concern" is potentially killing young people, and you're here talking out of your ass, convinced you have compassion for people.
I don't think many people understand that if they use Lemmy or kbin, they are posting to the fediverse. There are other platforms and will be more to come. Referring to a post on "Lemmy" or "kbin" is like saying you saw a post on your Windows or Mac computer....
Centrists can go suck a fat one. The primary reason we're in this fascistic mess globally is the centrists' aversion to being inconvenienced for the rights of their fellow people and for the future of the planet.
That's what creates dictatorships, that's what starts world wars, in summary, that's what enables fascists.
Serious question, if you see this, do you disagree that fascism is on the rise globally, if not, how do you designate the rising trend of often religious right wing ideology based on racism, sexism and any anti-minority bigotry you can think of?
Or conversely, a Christian apologist coming to an atheist community and saying "if god isn't real why do good things" as if declaring you are a poorly educated sociopath is a good way to challenge people's well formed ideas.
I've spent quite a bit of time trying to explain to some people why "woke leftists" are so quick to shut them up that they feel like they aren't given a right to speak their minds. "Woke" ideas are generally more developed and complex than "common sense" ideas, which requires some thought being put into them while they evolve from basic to their current level, so when you challenge a person's developed idea with a superficial, usually knee jerk level question or critique, you're most likely engaging in a line of thinking they were done with quite early in their evolution of the idea you're trying to challenge.
most of the time you'll be talking to a bot there without even realizing. they're gonna feed you products and ads interwoven into conversations, and the AI can be controlled so its output reflects corporate interests. advertisers are gonna be able to buy access and run campaigns. based on their input, the AI can generate...
Right now, we can already recognize lower quality bots within conversation. AI generated "art" is already very distinct to everyone to the point almost nobody misses it.
Language is a human instinct. Our minds create it, we can use it in all sorts of ways, bend it to our will however we want.
By the time bots become good enough to be indistinguishable online, they'll either be actually worth talking to, or they will simply be another corporate shill.
I know a lot of lurkers like me out there are browsing, but there’s quite a bit of engagement capitol on the federated instances. If you find an interesting topic and the right community, you get a lot of feedback. There’s not much hate being thrown out there either.

Hi there! So I'm two weeks in to kbin and I think I have a layman's understanding of the fediverse, but I'm still not the most technical person, so I thought I'd just post my questions here....
I'm still hung up on the association of the word "magazine" with firearms before publications.
In the context of a discussion forum, how do you skip over the very obvious meaning unless you are looking for dogwhistles in everything.
I am also as sensitive as any social justice conscious person to known dogwhistles, but looking for them in a conspiratorial manner is a bit too much I think.
I think the name kbin, which is officially /kbin, is a play on the term /sbin, which is a system directory on unix based systems that houses binary files which require root privileges to run.
I don't know how @ernest got from /sbin to /kbin though. Maybe he told the story somewhere but I haven't seen it.

Sure! It is also a three week old thread, and the second ever to be posted on the sub, after the sub creator posted the first one asking for engagement from the subscribers.
OC Unlike previous attempts at trying reddit alternatives (like Voat), kbin and much of the lemmyverse doesn’t seem to be plagued with extreme far right buffoonery.

Hot take: 18 years of user contributions to reddit will serve as a base model for an AI that generates content and conversations. the reddit experience continues as a simulation, to harvest clicks, sales and ad revenue.
