Who told you western teenagers were too dumb to understand this fact and would fail to include the remedies to their ideology when they rile up against capitalism?

OC Unlike previous attempts at trying reddit alternatives (like Voat), kbin and much of the lemmyverse doesn’t seem to be plagued with extreme far right buffoonery.

It’s one thing to have differing views, but I’ve seen enough attempted reddit migrations to be relieved that the popular communities in the fediverse so far haven’t been about crazy racist stuff or other extreme right bullshit....

Little guys lapping up right wing propaganda sure make it extremely difficult to fight the elite, tho.

They become merely another instrument of the "up" of suppressing the "down" when you're feeling frustrated, helpless, and hopeless all the time.

It is not Lemmy or kbin, it is the fediverse.

I don't think many people understand that if they use Lemmy or kbin, they are posting to the fediverse. There are other platforms and will be more to come. Referring to a post on "Lemmy" or "kbin" is like saying you saw a post on your Windows or Mac computer....

And with Threads potentially federating, it's pretty ominous

Call out post for a particular karma farmer on kbin.social

@pollodiabolo - this user is a karma whore of epic proportions and they have made a shit load (10-15+) accounts on kbin that boost and upvote each other while sometimes mass downvoting others that have posts trending towards the top - all to farm karma....

I would have blocked a lot of them just looking at the vile usernames. Thanks for the headsup.

I, too, agree with the scientists that we're all well and truly fucked.

Serious question, if you see this, do you disagree that fascism is on the rise globally, if not, how do you designate the rising trend of often religious right wing ideology based on racism, sexism and any anti-minority bigotry you can think of?

CynAq,
CynAq avatar

Centrists can go suck a fat one. The primary reason we're in this fascistic mess globally is the centrists' aversion to being inconvenienced for the rights of their fellow people and for the future of the planet.

That's what creates dictatorships, that's what starts world wars, in summary, that's what enables fascists.

CynAq,

I said global. This is a human phenomenon, not specific to US politics.

Think of it like a "greed is the root of all evil" kinda statement.

YSK: If you find an interesting topic/rabbit hole, you can get some real engagement here if you share it. It doesn't get drowned out like elsewhere. (lemmy.world)

I know a lot of lurkers like me out there are browsing, but there’s quite a bit of engagement capitol on the federated instances. If you find an interesting topic and the right community, you get a lot of feedback. There’s not much hate being thrown out there either.

CynAq,

YSK it's a lot. Alot is a fictional character created to illustrate this point.

Supreme Court Ethics Bill Passes Committee over 100% Republican Opposition (www.nytimes.com)

Although I agree with this bill, the NYT calling it “strict new ethics rules” is a bit much. Reading the requirements in the bill itself, it struck me as legislating that SCOTUS justices do the bare ethical minimum required of most every other judge - in other words, it’s the type of bill that shows up when an organization...

CynAq,

Yes. That's why who said what, and in what context, matters.

CynAq,
CynAq avatar

You're misunderstanding NYT's position and intention on this when they call it "strict new ethics rules". They are a neoliberal organization who'll side with republicans more often than they do with progressives. They are trying to paint it in a bad, big government kinda sentiment when they call it "strict".

TIL I didn't know the meaning of normies.

It's not a word I use but when I saw it first, I thought it meant neurotypical, then after a while I saw it in a more political context and thought it meant centrist. Turns out, it just means mainstream. I think.

What exactly does this word mean?

CynAq,

Or conversely, a Christian apologist coming to an atheist community and saying "if god isn't real why do good things" as if declaring you are a poorly educated sociopath is a good way to challenge people's well formed ideas.

I've spent quite a bit of time trying to explain to some people why "woke leftists" are so quick to shut them up that they feel like they aren't given a right to speak their minds. "Woke" ideas are generally more developed and complex than "common sense" ideas, which requires some thought being put into them while they evolve from basic to their current level, so when you challenge a person's developed idea with a superficial, usually knee jerk level question or critique, you're most likely engaging in a line of thinking they were done with quite early in their evolution of the idea you're trying to challenge.

Wait...

Is he letting that sink in? Is that the joke?

CynAq,

I'm still hung up on the association of the word "magazine" with firearms before publications.

In the context of a discussion forum, how do you skip over the very obvious meaning unless you are looking for dogwhistles in everything.

I am also as sensitive as any social justice conscious person to known dogwhistles, but looking for them in a conspiratorial manner is a bit too much I think.

I think the name kbin, which is officially /kbin, is a play on the term /sbin, which is a system directory on unix based systems that houses binary files which require root privileges to run.

I don't know how @ernest got from /sbin to /kbin though. Maybe he told the story somewhere but I haven't seen it.

CynAq,

I was just making a lighthearted joke but your serious tone made it even better in contrast. Thank you so much for this comment!

In hindsight, I should've asked how infuriated you were after reading the drivel I posted but you know what they say about hindsight.

CynAq,

Your right.

Grammar mistake are one of my pet peeve on the internet. I can't believe how some people seem like they could care less about grammar. I try and use correct grammar all the time. It would be good if every one cared about grammar rule's. I guess they can't help themself.

YSK: There's a history of animals being charged for criminal acts (en.m.wikipedia.org)

Why YSK: Did you know that throughout history, there have been cases where animals were actually charged with criminal acts? It’s pretty surprising, right? These stories give us a unique glimpse into how societies have dealt with the actions of animals and how the legal system has responded. By learning about these cases, we...

Even orange Cheetos can be charged with criminal acts sometimes!

Sure! It is also a three week old thread, and the second ever to be posted on the sub, after the sub creator posted the first one asking for engagement from the subscribers.
