how to optimize battery life?

So I recently bought a new honor magic 5 pro. My last phone the Huawei p20 pro was around 5 years old and started to show significantly less battery life. So I want to use this phone again for 5 years. But now I wonder should I keep the battery around 50% (65-35) and charge twice as often or should I 80-20 and charge once every...

‘We are burned out’: UAW ready to take on automakers in contract negotiations (www.theguardian.com)

"The forced overtime – we are working to death. We are working 12-hour shifts, seven days a week, every day, week after week, month after month, year after year. We are burned out,” added Ferdinandsen. “These companies are profiting the way that they are and trying to convince the American people that they’re hurting,...

WarmSoda,

Everyone should strike. Grind it all to a halt. Show’em what is like without anyone.

Do you think we will ever have affordable housing again in our lifetime?

Considering how crazy expensive accommodations have become the last couple of years, concentrated in the hands of greedy corporations, landlords and how little politicians seem to care about this problem, do you think we will ever experience a real estate market crash that would bring those exorbitant prices back to Earth?

extant,

Plenty of unoccupied land, but not unowned.

Cheesus,

No, unless we separate housing from investment, it will never be affordable. I don’t foresee the political will to make it happen.

Wookie,

I’m what they call an “idea man”, meaning I don’t know anything lol but I dream big

HeyJoe,

No I just canceled it the month before it expired and it was completely free. I think the standard is 3 months but I believe I got this for a bigger than normal purchase like a new phone maybe? Figured it was worth trying out. I think the only requirement was the account used couldn’t have used or been signed up for pro prior.

Well I, myself, am not currently personally on fire at this particular moment, which proves conclusively that climate change is a hoax and that our glorious, benevolent job creators deserve another tax cut and, fuck it, give em a bailout too just for the hell of it!

Just don’t anyone dare give one of our innumerable homeless “people” in our innumerable tent cities a sandwich. That would just enable them to keep being poor. In fact, lets give people of net worth higher than a hundred million an annual, national civic award for occasionally having to see the homeless out of their car and limo windows, as a thank you for allowing the nation to bathe in the owner’s divine affluent light, that just feels on theme for us.

Zorque,

That's not just something they turned it into, that's the inevitable result of a system where profit defines success. Because, no matter how good your product is, or how great the service is, if you don't make as much money it's not good enough.

As long as profit is the defining characteristic of our economy, this will never change.

How can a vast majority of the people sit there and let a tiny percentage dictate the lives and rules for everyone?

As an American looking at American policy right now…that’s ironic.

Jfc, the comments here are disgusting.

As if this is the first time an imperial superpower has intervened so heavily in a country and then backed the fuck up once there was no profit left to be made and left the locals to go fuck themselves.

And yet fuckers whose only knowledge of the situation over there comes from their biased racist google search abilities, and who not only would, without a shadow of a doubt, run and hide and piss themsleves if they ever encountered any situation a tenth as threatening as Afghan people have had to put up with, but probably end up joining the oppressive force because that's what people with tiny fragile egos tend to do - seek ways to abuse others, get to sit here and judge those poor people who are nothing but pawns in a war for profit for "not helping themselves"?!

The fucking audacity of you fuckers is beyond belief.

I'd say go read some fucking history and educate yourselves about the hundreds of examples of how imperial and colonial powers have ravaged and then abandoned people all across the globe, but I honestly don't think it'd help people with their heads so far up their own asses that they actually think their ignorant selves are somehow qualified to pass judgment on these people's lives.

And somehow the person calling out racism is always dubbed the racist by those who refuse to acknowledge their own privilege, let alone their blatant bias. Fucking typical.

    NathanielThomas,

quickly lose any sympathy for the people and culture

Just as easily as when I Google “Americans with guns”

    NathanielThomas,

When the Trump fascists took power in 2016 what did you do?

    gravitas_deficiency,

The problem is that “the people of Afghanistan” don’t see themselves as a united people. Regional and tribal ties are far, far stronger in the region than any true sense of national identity outside of “let’s cooperate just long enough to kick these fucking foreigners out”. Immediately after that’s accomplished, the region regresses into very old-school power politics and warlord fiefdoms. This has happened twice now in the space of 50 years. The truly galling point, though, is that US leaders and officials should have known this… but there were effectively zero coherent plans to handle that aspect of the occupation.

    rockSlayer,

“Talking about the dynamics of racism is racist.” I’ll let MLK know.

    Whirlybird,

The problem isn’t the tax rate, it’s all the tax loopholes and exemptions that allow big companies to pay no, or significantly less than they should, tax.

The reason this won’t happen is because the fat cat politicians have their hands in the pockets of these huge companies.

    BassTurd,

What your saying is all possible with with a progressive tax, only more tax revenue would be generated. The way a progressive tax works is at certain income levels, the tax % goes up, but only for income earned above that amount. Idk what those numbers are off the top of my head, so I’m going to make them up. Say less than 20k is exempt, then up to 80k is 20%, then 200k is 30%, then 400k+ is 40%. So if I make 150k, I pay 20% across the board. If I make 300k, I pay 20% on the first 200k, then 30% on the next 100k, and so on. A flat tax charges the same % on all income at all levels for everyone. While that might seem fair on the surface, it’s not when you take in account cost of living. If I make 20k and have to spend $100 on groceries every week and pay 10% of my income to taxes, that’s $7200 a year, or 36% of my income. If I make 200K a year and spend the same on groceries, that’s $25000 or 12.5% of my income. Poor me ends up taking a much bigger hit than wealthy me after accounting for cost of living. If wealthy me paid 20% instead of 10% I still have > $150k take-home which is more than enough to live on.

Businesses are different. They shouldn’t have any tax loopholes or write-offs (imo) and should have to pay taxes on revenue. A progressive tax could work there as well, but the brackets would be higher. And the end of the day, everyone should be paying taxes including businesses, whether that’s flat or progressive, except I think if you’re in poverty you should be exempt.

The rich are still rich, the poor get some built in help with exemption, and there’s more tax money to subsidize social programs, healthcare, and other things.
