Has anybody found out that they prefer English to their native language?

Due to some reason I found myself actually enjoying listening to English speakers more than to speakers in my native language. Well, maybe it is becuase I have been listeting to English for a long time and now get used to it. I wish I was surrounded by English rather than by my native language because my native language sounds...

I can think of languages that I enjoy compared to my native language. English isn’t one of them though. I find it a bit blah.

You sound xenophobic if not racist. Do you have a source for that? I grew very in a homogeneous region. The bullying was terrible.

Household waste in a commercial building? I’m totally confused.

Thanks for explaining. It’s all clear now. Great news.

Good for them. If it works, it will have to be widely adopted. I can say that phones have taken a degree of the joy out of parenting when there are no societal boundaries.

A case for preemptively defederating with Threads

With Meta beginning to test federation, there's a lot of discussion as to whether we should preemptively defederate with Threads. I made a post about the question, and it seems that opinions differ a lot among people on Kbin. There were a lot of arguments for and against regarding ads, privacy, and content quality, but I don't...

I’m glad you said that you don’t think that privacy is the biggest issue. Our posts are already public and can be scraped easily. I’ve stopped reading posts about privacy issues because they seem misinformed to me.

I don’t know what to think about the rest at this stage, but I’m beyond suspicious of Meta, which has proven itself to be a deeply unethical company.

Point 1 is fair, yes. I’m not informed about how they can monopolise, since they don’t control the ActivityPub spec.

Personally I think private social media should no longer exist. Or at least we’d be better without.

I thought that SSD fails “better” than HDD because SDD become read-only first.

Thanks. In that case is it known which of those two possibilities are most likely?

According to @postcard64 below I’m oversimplifying things (at minimum).

“ Orbán left the room when the decision on enlargement was taken... This allowed for an unanimous decision from the European Council, which … was completely legal under EU law.”

This sounds almost cartoonish. Was it a coincidence or a case of “quick, while he’s gone!”

Great result anyway.

Edit: Now I’m thinking that it suited him not to object but that he couldn’t be seen to allow it, so he did it on purpose The rant online could have been the usual far-right theatrics.

I never made the connection, but now that you say it, it seems obvious.

Anyone know how this compares to FreshRSS?

Update: I see a few differences. It’s mobile friendly and is more simplified in some ways. That’s all good. They say to expect breakage so it mightn’t be as stable yet.

What is the opposite of an ethical dilemma called? (A situation where there is a clear/obvious solution with no negative consequence)

An example would be a version of the trolley problem where you can either allow the track to remain on its current path which is empty, or divert it to harm an individual unnecessarily. This is a choice between a universally good outcome or a universally bad outcome....

Australia to Tighten Immigration Requirements (www.improvethenews.org)

The Australian government has announced plans to cut the number of new immigrants by half in less than two years, in an effort to improve the country's "broken" immigration system. The government hopes to reduce the yearly intake to 250K by June 2025. BBC News (LR: 3 CP: 5)...

The only people who should be deciding immigration laws there are the aboriginals.

How Russian Parliamentary Leader Sergey Mironov and His New Wife Adopted a Child Kidnapped from Ukraine and Changed Her Identity (istories.media)

Adopting deported Ukrainian children in Russia is a crime from the point of view of international law, lawyer Maria Chashchilova explains. “This is considered genocide and violates paragraph (e) of Article 2 of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide: ‘forcibly transferring children of the...
