I am legally prescribed stimulants.

I also stay far the hell away from short-form dopamine hits, because holy shit.

Used to literally eat until I was sick because my brain craved the “nice chemicals” I was unable to produce naturally. I can’t imagine self-medicating with digital brain-rot content, and I feel awful for the people these days that may be unknowingly doing just that. Even worse: that it’s incentivised by big companies!

Scolding0513,

this is a wrong take for a few reasons, if we’re talking about trust.

Also, Signal literally was taking money from the CIA for a decade and also is based in the US anyway, and no one hardly said a word 🤣🤣 “Privacy” activists are a joke lmao. Also signal made a crypto coin and took away features like SMS, but of course they get a free pass for that too. Makes you wonder.

  1. SimpleX is fully open source, verifiable, and audited. If there are changes that are bad, the community will talk about them, and at worst it can be forked
  2. SimpleX has made it clear that they dont want you to trust them. It’s decentralised and anyone can run their own relay, and the servers are designed prevent correlation. They also make it very easy to use TOR and multiple circuits. This is contrary to the inferior Signal model where you just have to trust that the centralized Signal org isnt leaking your phone and IP to the feds.

moving towards a decentralised, open, and trustless world is better for everyone. In this kind of system, I really dont give a damn where they are getting their money from, as long as they arent putting crap in the software, and if they do, we will all know about it. But so far they have shown that they are committed to extreme security and privacy, and they obviously arent trying to appeal to normies, so i doubt they would ever even try to put VC-pushed garbage in.

If you want a good app, you will need funding from somewhere. Look at apps like Session that arent funded well. They suck. So I’d rather SimpleX be funded by a VC instead of by the feds like Signal, as long as everything stays open, free, trustless, and decentralised

Time to get downvoted! See you guys at -50 😁

I use both protonmail and tutanota atm. Had good experiences so far tbh! But for those I know that are truly dedicated to the foss lifestyle, most I know either self host their email service or use something like posteo/distroot. Some I know use riseup as well but I think it’s propertiary I think but have a huge emphasis on privacy though and being very anti corporate.

How do we package food products sustainably in coming decades?

I imagine all plastics will be out of the question. I’m wondering about what ways food packaging might become regulated to upcycling in the domestic or even commercial space. Assuming energy remains a $ scarce $ commodity I don’t imagine recycling glass will be super practical as a replacement. Do we move to more unpackaged...

Happy everybody. To celebrate, here’s a new poster with my favourite red-beaked corvid. xx

Abandoned Art Deco power plant control room (reddthat.com)

Kelenföld Power Station is an abandoned power plant control room in Hungary. Built in the 1920s, it’s a beautiful example of Art Deco industrial architecture and features a dramatic oval-shaped room lit by a large skylight. The plant originally ran on coal but was converted to natural gas in the 1970s. Much of the original...

Jackthelad,

“Breeding animals for consumption is fine, except this one.”

It is slightly odd how people are like, “cows? Gimme that burger. Sheep? Mmm, mint sauce. Chicken? Batter that baby up”. But then suddenly everyone turns into a vegan when it’s a dog or a horse.

I’ve got no interest in eating dog meat, but where’s the consistency?

In Oulu, , temperatures will be down to -20 C this week.

Yet 12% of all journeys in the city will be by bicycle.

How do they do it? Good wayfinding for starters, with symbols projected onto the snow...❄️ 🚲 🧵

yes, on Mastodon when a user block an instance, it's more like a mute than a block. Your posts will still be available to them, but you won't see their content.

The only solution if you want to protect your content from being shared on an instance is to block it at the instance level AND that the instance use Authorised Fetch.

Not all instances have this feature on.

The Star Trek community has been going strong for nearly 60 years for a reason - Star Trek rocks.

When it started in the 60s (and continued especially strong with TNG in the 80s), it was unique in depicting a hopeful look at how things could be rather than a reflection of how things are, differing from how most shows do social commentary. It’s refreshing.

Star Trek is attractive to people who want to see a world where people work together toward great things in a post-scarcity utopia, with current day conversations of race, nationality, sex, gender, etc. being so far in the rear-view mirror that they’re non-issues. Plus cool technology. I think that appeals to the Lemmy crowd.

Being Black and autistic is awful

I’m not sure where else to vent. I don’t want to seem like I’m playing the victim as everyone else in this community is having the same executive functioning issues I’m having and I don’t mean to distract from those things but having to navigate these issues while being constantly reminded of my race is exhausting....

doctordevice,

To give you a word and framework for what your post, and a lot of the comments here, are describing: intersectionality. Multiple oppressed identities or characteristics compound to be more oppressive than the sum of their parts.

Your struggles are real, and you’re making perfect sense. I’m so sorry you have to deal with all of that, that fucking sucks.
