And in order to stay rich, you have to play your role and participate in a society that oppresses the poor which in turn maintains your wealth. Are you really still capable of being a good person?

It's a complex topic, but this is the crux of the matter I think. If we're talking about today's world, then I don't think there is a billionaire who is not complicit with participating in a system that is rigged (for lack of a better term) in their favor, and profits in an unfair scale from the work of others.

On the other hand, I also don't think you need to disown your material wealth and start living paycheck to paycheck to be able to qualify as a good person. So... in my head, there's definitely millionaires who are good people, who earned their riches with authentic hard work and some genius ideas/inventions/services, and pay the people they employ well, or keep good relations with the people they work with.

As a forum user, it was absolutely crazy to me when I first signed up on Reddit a decade ago that the replies would be out of order and sorted by popularity. But I grew to understand that it was a crowdsourcing effort in most ways and that the cream rises to the top. It was really quite good to get the information you needed out of the thread.

Anything new is scary

Agreed. Most people just want to settle into something comfortable.

I currently have:

  1. Spotify - ease-of-use, can use on mobile
  2. Xbox Game Pass - although I don't use the streaming aspect of it
  3. Netflix - shared with a spread-out family, although we already got the "one household" notice, so it's probably gonna be on my chopping block sooner or later

And mostly because I've already watched everything I wanted to watch on these, I've recently cut:

  1. Hulu and Disney+
  2. HBO Max

Mark Hanna: Number one rule of Wall Street. Nobody - and I don't care if you're Warren Buffet or if you're Jimmy Buffet - nobody knows if a stock is going to go up, down, sideways or in circles. You know what a fugazi is?

Jordan Belfort: Fugayzi, it's a fake.

Mark Hanna: Fugayzi, fugazi. It's a whazy. It's a woozie. It's fairy dust. It doesn't exist. It's never landed. It is no matter. It's not on the elemental chart. It's not fucking real.

Hey I installed this and it's working fine, so thank you! But the communities outside of kbin that I'm subscribed to are not showing up at all, even though they're listed under my subscriptions in my profile. Is there a setting I missed somewhere?

How should I be using Lemmy?

With spez ascending the last few remaining levels of becoming an absolute wanker, it's about time I got more active and I have been wondering how should I be using Lemmy efficiently? Like many I migrated from Reddit and I was primarly using Apollo to browse through my subscribed subreddits....

Unfortunately I think it's gonna be like this for a while as more and more people come and get exposed to this concept for the first time. Some folks have made very helpful introductory threads to guide newbies into the Fediverse, but at its core it's a very different paradigm to "log on this website to see and interact with this one thing" that people have gotten used to.

Oh man, I knew there were a lot but I had no idea.

I remember when Google Wave was demo'ed to a live audience, there were audible ooohs and aaahs from the crowd. It was such a mindblowing idea 14 years ago, shame it never really got off the ground.

You're telling me! Excited to get home, install them and see what all the great reviews are saying.

This is my signal to buy Into the Breach and jump in.

I'm also giving into the Resident Evil series that's been on my wishlist for waaay too long... RE Remake, RE 0 Remake, RE 2, RE 3, RE 7.

Village and RE 4 will have to wait as the price hasn't dropped enough yet. >:D

Others used RIF and Apollo, but I was firmly Team BaconReader from the moment I downloaded it a decade ago. I had deleted the application off my phone a few weeks back to help curb the habit, but seeing this now really hammered the nail into the coffin. At least it now has its own send off of sorts with one last update to the Play Store.

On the off chance that they see this, thank you BaconReader devs for 12 years of service!!

That's uncanny. How did you get it so close?

EDIT: Actually not close, bang on!

I like it because it helps break my Coke addiction.

EDIT: Coca-Cola* addiction

Just wanted to chime in and say thanks for the excellent work. I've had it installed since the first one you made public, and updated it now to 2.0. Works great!

I appreciate the work you're putting in! The latest version no longer gets text cut off on the right side. However now the longer comments no longer get that expand option.

This is one of the most renaissance-like accidental renaissance pictures I've seen ever. Even the tilt of her head and the direction her eyes are looking at fits in with how people were painted in that era.

Dark Souls trilogy are all brilliant games, and are finally on a steam sale for the first time in a year and a half (i.imgur.com)

All three games are on sale on steam for the first time since January 2022 (to the best of my knowledge). If you’ve never given them a shot, now is the best time to do so as they don’t go on sale very often at all

To answer your question, no, you're probably not the only one. But just like Metroidvania means something immediately understandable in terms of genre, so does the term "Soulslike"; and that's because the mechanical, punishing-but-rewarding combat, little to no handholding, and storytelling not through exposition but through lore drops here and there was something quite innovative. Audiences were not used to it, so the games piqued (and kept!) the interest of so many.

Holy hell.

Time to buy some onions tomorrow...

I'd love it if there was a quicker route to get to an alphabetical list of all the magazines I'm subscribed to

As things stand, I think the fastest way to get there is to click my name, then click Profile, then scroll all the way to the right to Subscribed - and even then the list I get is a) sorted by when I joined (rather than alphabetically) and b) spread over multiple pages when you're subscribed to enough magazines (meaning...

That sounds promising! Thank you for the tips.

Looking for a mouse, help me choose!

Productivity focus mainly (browsing, web dev, documents) and ergonomic (I start to have pain in right hand). Don't care if wireless or not but would prefer if wireless that the mouse is usable wired also. Budget ~100€. Any suggestions? Looking for a durable product that could last for 5+ years....

I know this is a week old but I hope this is still helpful for you. These productivity focused mice are generally high-quality, and if you get a dud, Logitech is usually good about customer support. Sometimes they even send you a brand new mouse outright (it happened to me before).

Also, I'm not sure in which country you're in, so I'm just going by UK prices even though they no longer use the Euro lol

  1. MX Master 3 - This can be a very comfy mouse to hold if you can find your hand agreeing with it. Has two scroll wheels, one in the normal position and one for the thumb. There's a newer version, the 3S, which has quieter clicks and is more expensive, but is essentially the same as this one.

  2. MX Vertical - This one turns your hand on its side while in operation, which is apparently a more ergonomic resting position for the hands.
