He’s gonna try to run for president one day isn’t he

I like to try new stuff when I can, I’m not super picky. Usually drink bourbons if I’m feeling fancy. Had Knob Creek rye on the rocks recently and was pleasantly surprised!

To celebrate the transition to the Fediverse, here's the flag I designed and posted a couple of years ago on r/piracy (lemm.ee)

Pretty self-explanatory but the idea is to combine the "share" logo with the crossbones. The message is peers 2 peers, from many to many, sharing is caring, but the deisgn still recalls the awesome pirate flag.

Call me corny but a little floppy disk or a globe or something could be cool

They still aren’t winning a chip with Ayton. They need depth too

Helium,

Low effort posts and low effort comments in every thread. It was to the point where Reddit felt like call and response to me.

Also, there was no way to contribute to the posts on the front page because they were overloaded with comments. There was always an arms race on who got the top comment on a post that had the potential to get a lot of traction— which means the quippiest comments were always the first.

It’s intellectual junk food.

It’s really eye opening reading thinly veiled threats in Reddit’s wholesome chungus corporate-speak these past couple days. What a garbage company

Helium,
Helium avatar

Pretty obvious that these tools only apply to dissenting subs… after this all blows over, there won’t be a single reddit employee even looking at this system

Helium,
Helium avatar

Yeah it’s not like Reddit is a governmental body here lmao. What’s the repercussion if they fake a vote? Downvotes?

Helium,

Lmao I called it earlier today. He's more worried about this than I thought though because this is really soon. Forcibly reopening subs is a powerful move from Reddit's end, but it's the nuclear option. It takes any perceived power away from protesting mods, and will risk Reddit paying for moderation in the future. He's trying to scare the strike... it means it's working.

Megathread for Reddit Blackouts and News - Rest of the Week(?)

hey everyone. if you want to post links or discuss the Reddit blackout, its aftermath, and what's happening going forward, please localize it to this thread in order to keep things tidy! thanks! we'll see if we need to cycle the thread again before the end of this week, but i don't know that we'll need to

Helium,
Helium avatar

Just wondering how long it takes til Reddit strips mods and forcibly reopens certain protesting subs

Helium,
Helium avatar

Furries, Avians and Scalies :3 people used to use these terms more back in the day!

Don't be discouraged by people saying these protests don't work, or by subreddits going public

People discredit every type of protest, IRL or not. I think back to every major protest that's happened in response to some major event, and the response every time is "That won't ever work", "You're wasting your time", "Imagine caring about that"....

Helium,
Helium avatar

I really don't see the protests as a failure. You give Reddit, inc. an opportunity to compromise with the community and they show that they won't budge an inch (or, more accurately, they CAN'T due to VC pressure)

We learned what Reddit has become, and now we work towards building a future proofed community somewhere else. As long as the Fediverse has activity I will be prioritizing my time here. These little things have big ramifcations for years in the future, where we will see more enshittification and more draconian privacy laws in various countries and states.

I see what's happening here as a success.

Comcast is a truly rotten company. Like without fail they continue to impress me on their new clever ways of misleading customers. Like remember "10G" from earlier this year...?

Nice work! furry needs more 3d artists.

Yep! Reddit won't die. It is becoming (and in some ways has been for some time) one of a very limited number of sites that the majority of the interconnected globe uses to exchange information, like Facebook. Even if it loses .5% of its current userbase to some alternative, it's barely a drop in the bucket to Reddit, but that number is HUGE if it's mostly dorks like us setting up a new home here in the Fediverse.

It's a win-win; we want quality discussion here. Your average modern Reddit user wants the information drip. (And I should say, it's entirely possible to be someone who uses both during this transition phase)

Congrats! What a coincidence, I just got back into the gym today after a long absence. Being in shape is hella worth the effort!

Helium,

No worries, Reddit -- I'm fine with where I'm at atm too :)

Helium,

Correct me if I’m wrong, but in the coming months, we should be able to interact with most of the Fediverse through Kbin, right? If Reddit doesn’t do a complete reversal on changes I have no problem staying with Kbin or something else. This feels new and refreshing and I’m willing to put up with the growing pains as long as there’s enough activity.

Also, doesn’t surprise me how many folks here are old school Redditors. This place REALLY feels like the early days of Reddit.

The Future of Reddit after the Blackout

As an effect of the recent Reddit blackout, the company is now surrounded by disappointed investors and community. I predict that Reddit may end up facing the same fate as Tumblr: being sold to another company. Only time will tell what the future holds for Reddit, but one thing is for sure - the protest will leave a lasting...

At least they aren’t actively working against their community like Reddit and Twitter. The Silicon Valley douchebaggery is off the charts lately, every jackass millionaire (or billionaire) thinks they know what’s best for their users, to the point where they think it’s normal to have an actively antagonistic relationship with their user base. We have the power to pick up our shit and take it to another site

Helium,

Who's more insecure: you, or your antiquated god with all your weird-ass rules you worship?

Helium,
Helium avatar

No human eyes will look at your data—until you become too politically active of course!

I don't care if things here are slow. I'm gonna enjoy my little vacation from Reddit and hopefully never have to go back
