The big contradiction of the #Fediverse is that people want e. g. #Mastodon to be more popular and accepted than e. g. #Twitter or #Threads but yet they are ANTI EVERYTHING; No companies, no this and that, no federation, "I will fucking block you all" for even looking at the mainstream popular culture.
@rolle Totally agree. I think it would actually be best if companies made their own instances and it became standard practice to do so. Why? Because in the coming AI post-truth age, it's going to be a lot more understandable if you can follow "official" organization-run Kbin/Mastadon/whatever instances entirely or simply defederate from them if you don't want to see them. For example, imagine this with local news. I could follow BreakingNews@DesMoinesRegister pretty easily and they get the benefit of complete control over their platform. They can have it ONLY be a feed of their posts if they're averse to comments, they can have a wild comment section, they can do whatever they like.
But also in general I find the obsessive defederators insufferable too. Merely don't subscribe to stuff you don't want to see instead of trying to force admins to defederate.

Hi everyone, I got a lemmy account and a kbin account while deciding what i like best. Since I'm new to this i'm having trouble searching and "subscribing" lemmy communities while on kbin, and viceversa kbin magazines while on lemmy. Can someone please help me with this issue?
I know he has said it would be too much work for him at the moment, but I would love for some of the top reddit app developers to try their hand at quick proof of concept fediverse Lemmy/Kbin compatible apps. I'm currently using Jerboa for Lemmy and while it's pretty sleek, it's VERY buggy and extremely barebones.
