His fascism and bigotry aren't spilling over anywhere, Trump represents a mean streak in society that's dominated by wealth, eg, fascism. It's everywhere already, that's why non-Americans are focusing on Trump. You'll note that happens in anywhere defined by "Western society". Australia included. Hell, Qanon's founder didn't live in America.

I'm not saying any of this is good or right, but don't pretend your nation's fascists will slow down because of Trump. They won't. They were there already.

The same thing was happening back before WWII. Fascists existed in America before the war. They existed here after too. And Canada. And Australia, etc.

Just goes to show, cops see cops as just badges and guns. That's the problem.

I'll go one more, this format itself breeds contempt and arguments. There's never going to be a "good old Reddit" because it was always a cesspool. I was there for ten years, believe me. It's a cesspool. It's because it's shaped like one. The format is the problem.

Great, we'll have nanoplastic waste brought about by using solvent and high heat furnaces - furnaces that are totally green we pinky swear.

This just takes the eco waste and turns it into smaller eco waste by virtue of wasting more energy. I'm sure the exhaust isn't something you'll wanna breathe either.

Stop subsiding oil. It's real fucking simple.

Why is it JP Morgan always gets the grace in the headlines? Former employees, right. "They were caught by authorities, who told us, and we got our ducks in a row and fired them and then let them get arrested". Every time.

Nickelback, Chris Brown, and other stars scored $200 million in taxpayer funds meant to keep arts groups afloat during the pandemic. They won't say what they did with the money. (www.insider.com)

The SBA's SVOG grants were intended for struggling small artists. But big stars like Post Malone and Chris Brown got $200M in pandemic relief funds.

Itty53,

Oh this editor knew what the hell they were doing here.

"Nevermind who did what, we can mention two of the most reviled acts of modern times in a negative light? Print it."

For the record, this also involved Post Malone, Melissa Ethridge, Smashing Pumpkins, and many many others. But let's focus of the two names that inspire the most hate.

Itty53,
Itty53 avatar

The truth is none of these people "did" anything. They have managers and teams of folks who handle their livelihoods in their name. I bet the majority of artists named by the article are just finding out about it today.

So no, Posty probably didn't have anything personally to do with this, but he caught the check. Same with Chris Brown and the rest.

The shitty corporation, actually. There really aren't many up at that level of shitty. We're talking about a company that created the perfect "child star to sex symbol" pipeline while simultaneously holding the most family friendly, kid friendly title across most of the world.

Really, the mouse is Satan but that doesn't mean we need to side with DeSantis either. Pull up a chair, grab your popcorn and watch, no need to root for either of these monstrosities.

What do you call a tycoon who is virulently anti-communist and anti-labor and anti-union? I mean that's a fascist right? Pretty clearly.

Even Walt's living niece today (heiress even) has said her great uncle was borderline fascist, and a racist, and an antisemite. Had the Nazis come to America Walt would've gladly given them a personal tour of his park before swearing allegiance. Whatever it took to keep his money. That's not coincidentally the same reason big money always backs fascism.

What I'm saying is, they're the same picture. Disney and DeSantis are just competing angles of the same philosophy. Disney was happy with DeSantis policies right up until he wanted to affect their bottom line. That was too much. That's always been the line for them. Always will be.

Bro the KKK hates Catholics. It's a power structure that exists outside of the national politics, they can't control it, so it's the enemy. Always was. The KKK vs Catholic thing goes back to New Orleans and Louisiana racists.

In case anyone is wondering, Ramaswamy is just another in a long line of the Republican history.

During the primary season you'll see rumblings of support for a relatively unknown and minority candidate for Republicans. Herman Cain was their last one. He's dead now, they needed a new one. Ramaswamy is it.

The only reason he's talked about at all is so they set themselves up to later claim, "see we're not racist! We almost elected this guy!". The reality is this guy, nor Cain, ever stood a chance. Whether or not they realize that and play their role anyway would be the thing to know.

The steam deck is already right there at the limit with it's weight. This thing looks significantly heavier.

Also can't wait for Nintendo to sue. This article even called them "joy-cons" as if desperately calling out to Nintendo, "yep, pull that trigger".

How Wave Power Could Be The Future Of Energy (youtu.be)

The ocean has an incredible amount of power potential. China’s brand new Wave Energy Converters has been making a lot of news recently. While this ocean power device isn’t the first of its kind, its sheer size represents a breakthrough for this underutilized but potent branch of the renewable energy family tree. What is wave...

Itty53,

The amount of energy we'd need to pull from those flows even to power the full need of the world is likely pretty trivial compared to the amount those flows actually contain. Oceans are world engines, literally. There's a lot of energy in there.

These wouldn't prevent flows either, just leech a little and slow it down. Worth exploring.

The biggest issue is upkeep. Oil rigs require a massive amount of upkeep because salt water really wants to destroy most structural material, fast. Then you factor in costs of getting crews out there for maintenance, etc .. it adds up. Costs not just financially but in carbon as well. Material advancements help but you're back to the carbon costs with those in a big way too.

Hollywood actor Danny Trejo will play Magellan in film ‘1521’ (usa.inquirer.net)

Hollywood actor Danny Trejo will play the role Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in “1521,” an upcoming historical epic that follows the Spanish expedition that reached the Philippine archipelago on March 16, 1521 and depicts the Battle of Mactan, Variety has reported.

Which is funny, but just goes to show how Hollywood shows us (and shapes) a picture of history and society that's not reliable in any way.

We think of Magellan as an older person because we are all exposed to his story at a very young age - grade school. The memories we create then are created in that context. This actually applies to A FUCKING LOT of social norms, and it's why how and what we teach children is so wildly important.

But I digress. Hollywood just shows us what we expect to see. It's actually crucial to understand audience expectations because the only way you manage to grab their attention is by stringing them along and subverting that expectation. That's comedy, drama, action, horror, romance: the whole gamut of film really. It applies to all of it.

Similarly every film featuring Rome shows them with their white edifices and white robes right? Rome wasn't like that. Picture hippie colors, that's what Rome painted their buildings and statues and clothes like. It just didn't last and over time faded away to expose the white underneath. Then we found it like that and created our image. Hollywood has to stick to that or people will feel actual discomfort by watching it. That's actually ANOTHER function of writing, cringe comedy, but that's a whole other thing. Sorry, I ramble.

That's very cool. I personally hate watching vlog videos and would always prefer to read.

But this tool also desperately needs punctuation. I feel like that's an actual great use case for an LLM: feed it the transcript and tell it to punctuate it. Just a thought.

Grain of salt, rather than skepticism.

No normal person can waste their time being truly skeptical of everything they see. The reality is we don't have to (nor often do we) believe everything we see in normal situations. So take everything you see online, on TV, from afar with a grain of salt. Don't put too much faith in it. Shit this is important even with actual real video footage, context can change everything. You get twenty seconds of a twenty minute video and you can make it say anything you want. Just cut the context to suit.

In situations where evidence counts, such as a court room, custody of that evidence is considered. Any old mp4 can't be provided to the court as evidence without it being thrown out by the other team. So there really, truly is hardly any concern whatsoever about generative AI in the courts.

And the other side of that coin is confirmation bias. I don't care how shitty the fake is, if you show a MAGA a video of Biden eating a baby that person will insist it's real. Against any evidence to the contrary, they'll argue its real and reality won't matter.

That's what's been meant by the "post truth world". It isn't a problem of establishing what is and isn't truth. The problem is that the truth doesn't matter anymore.

California here. They wont. People don't notice those kinds of things. The central valley in CA though is sinking and has been sinking since the 60s. For the same reasons.

Stretch farther, Armstrong.

Itty53,
Itty53 avatar

It means you're stretching far.

Before you stammer out more rhetorical bullshit that serves as a strawman, let's back up. My opinion on what crime means in the context here (and yours) don't matter. It's got a clear definition. In this case, we're talking about US federal laws and elected party members who break them.

The war crimes you're talking about apply to virtually every major leader in the world if you look to see who's on the other side of their money. That's largely just a function of political opinion.

Fact is the US isn't a party to the pertinent bits of the Geneva Convention, which is your best example of an authority capable of prosecuting "war crimes".

The hard historical reality is that "war crimes" are what the winning side says of the differing tactics of the losing side.

I'm not going to get sucked into a debate on the ethics and morals of geopolitics and the existence of warfare among the human species. That's a fools errand to try to achieve anonymously online.

Itty53,
Itty53 avatar

You're not wrong, you're just being very picky about where you interject your view here. The context here was (until you changed it) American politics. You're deliberately changing the context so you can trash one side of American politics as equivalent to the other. And you do that a lot. We can all see.

What you're doing isn't clever, it's transparent. You're just interjecting "both sides" arguments everytime you encounter folks in support of Democrats. Your history is public, fyi.

I can also assure you the nation you're residing in today has skeletons in their closet too. Wanna test that theory? It is admittedly irrelevant to the topic of US politics, yes, but you're the one making the comparison and you're the one trying to tell people not to support Democrats because they're just as bad as the Republicans. Nevermind being terrible shitty logic, let's back up: are you even American? You talk as if you're not. That's telling us something in and of itself isn't it?

I'm happy to drag this out with you, you'll only expose yourself more.

Itty53,
Itty53 avatar

If people around here were claiming Republicans to be the better choice, I’d point to their crimes instead

Again, your history doesn't show you doing that, ever. Even if it did, this isn't defensible. You're just a troll. This right here is why I'm recommending everyone reading block you. And why I'm blocking you myself. You're just a contrarian and that serves exactly one side and one side only. We know that hand over fist.

Now you know that, you can't pretend you've never been told. If you honestly think you're being genuine and not just a disingenuous shit, then I implore you: Go look in the mirror and question yourself a bit about this interaction.

Bye.
