JanoRis,

Yeah, the "Bethesda. Bethesday never changes" seems to me to just be a reference to the iconic and memed start of FO4. "War. War never changes". Just a little inside joke for the FO4 community

After 23 years, developer reveals he snuck a cheat code past Sony that turns a cult-classic horror game into a godsend for retro enthusiasts (www.gamesradar.com)

Article about a recent revelation by the Youtube Channel Modern Vintage Gaming: The game “Alien Resurrection” by Argonaut contains a code which allows to run burned CD copies of Playstation 1 games.

JanoRis,

But isn't the whole point to play a burned copy of the game?
This seems like scalping concert tickets to a concert that allows you to copy tickets in the printer.

JanoRis,

Red wine and coke is sth i have seen croatians and Portuguese drink

JanoRis,

JanoRis,

That data is still from 2009 though, but sadly there doesn't seem to be a newer statistic. Since that time many changes were made to push for the removal of old lead piping in the EU.

Anyway the threshold for lead in drinking water in the EU is 10ug/L since 2013.
Since 2020 a regulation has been in effect with the goal to have less than 5 ug/L drinking water at the consumer until 2036 everywhere in the EU.
https://publications.jrc.ec.europa.eu/repository/handle/JRC125733

The US has a threshold of 15 ug/L.

JanoRis,

Have been asking this myself lately.
People always seem to get defensive about this topic, but if an instance gets challenged on a GDPR investigation it could have a huge fine associated to it.
It is good to have this sorted out, so instance owners don't enter a life changing financial risk.

Currently we probably are too small and fly under the radar, but this could become a big problem as the fediverse scales.

Issues I wonder about:

  1. How safe is the Fediverse? Is there a way for a federated instance to misuse the user data? Or can such activity be detected and cause a defedaration.
  2. How easily can all user data be deleted if a request comes in to remove all personal data? Wouldn't that request have to be extended to all instances your instance is currently federated with?
  3. Instances probably wouldn't be able to handle a bad actor (for example Meta, or spez) that decides to start a mass request attack.
  4. Corporations have lawyers that deal with this stuff, I don't feel like most instance owners have the same kind of protection here.
JanoRis, to kbinMeta

So when I get "The profile from the federated server may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance." is that just a temporary syncing issue that resolves itself after some time?

I see that message on the newly linked https://kbin.social/m/datenvisualisierung@feddit.de for example or on comments and posts on my other profile on lemmy.world.

JanoRis,

The colosseum is Roman though, not greek

JanoRis,

JanoRis,

I am really happy with my Asus Zenphone 9. The best feature is the long battery life. If i wanted i could use the phone for ~72h, though I usually charge it to 80% and charge the phone every 2 days instead.

The Battery Life was my main buying point, the aux and smaller size were important though too.
It also has an actual gimble for camera stabilisation in the lense instead of the typical stabilization through a sensor, though i guess it is more of a gimmick. I myself don't take that many action shots where this could be useful, so I can't really give any info if it is better than the usual way of stabilization.
Since it is an Asus phone I think it also is pretty powerful and power efficient for mobile gaming if that interests you (I don't care about that).

End of this Month they will also reveal the Zenphone 10, so maybe this might also be a possible phone to check out. I bought mine also directly release last year since I was looking for a new phone around that time. It was bundled with a chromebook that I was able to resell so it was a nice deal in comparison to other comparable phones.

How do kbin instances (and all aggregator protocols) work to maintain privacy and safety? What can we put up on the roadmap (when there is one)? (Instance members at least; ppl posting on fedi in general)

This is going to be kbin focused because that's the infra I'm most familiar with, but if any part of this is relevant to Lemmy and other upcoming aggregators it's worth a think too:...

JanoRis,

Both kbin and lemmy don't have 2FA yet. What is protecting me from getting my account hacked? Is 2FA on the roadmap?

JanoRis,

Outer Wilds for sure. This game is special, but it's difficult to replay with prior knowledge.

Portal 2 is another game i would like to experience for the first time again

JanoRis,

Auf kbin funktioniert es, bei lemmy musst du auf ein update warten, das Problem ist bekannt und wird behoben.

Ansonsten kannst du auch Top verwenden mit einer Zeitbegrenzung von einem Tag. Oder auf Neu stellen

JanoRis,

Having a news article finally promote a fediverse instance is a win in my book.

Only issue is that lemmy and kbin should have still been mentioned as a whole, especially since registering to beehaw seems to take some time.

Another non federated alternative that seems to have some traction with reddit refugees is squabbles. Sad that it didn't get mentioned since it also reached ~17k users. This could end up a good alternative for people that find the fediverse too complicated. Though i myself prefer kbin so far.

JanoRis,

Honestly, the activity on reddit still seems lower than before the Blackout if you look here, especially for a weekend

JanoRis,

Could be interesting if this contains some data showing how reddit stores data and shines more info on reddit restoring deleted comments, since that could become a GDPR issue.

what i really hope this data will not contain:
User Login credentials. Though if it did, the hackers would probably already have taken control of some admin accounts.

JanoRis,

No need to preorder/buy it, since the game will be on gamepass on release.

What point is there to not try the game for 10€ for a month? You can cancel it anytime.

If it's shit, you still have a huge library of big name games you can play. You can also get gamepass keys for much cheaper on ebay or key resellers but there you might get scammed. Also if you have friends with gamepass ultimate, they can give you free 14 day trial keys.

If the game turns out great, you can still just buy it later on sale

JanoRis,

Don't think i ever finished any, i usually get overwhelmed in the endgame i guess. What I have tried so far:

  • Satisfactory (favorite so far, gonna only finish it on full release)
  • Dyson Sphere (good one, great QoL Tools, might come back eventually and finish it)
  • BigPharma (Mediocre)
  • Mindustry (ok)
  • Per Aspera (oh i actually did finish this one, but it's not completely an automation game)
  • Astroneer (couldn't get into this one)
JanoRis,

they will probably just rollback all your comments, like they did already for a bunch of people. though at least that could cause them to have a problem with GDPR and similar data protection acts.

Though I think if you want to salt the earth you could instead bloat up every comment to max comment length, preferably with a funny story about data protection created in chatgpt. This might increase the server space needed for each comment. Maybe even add some disclaimers and stuff that this comment is your intellectual property and editing it without your knowledge and approval makes the site liable to a fine. This probably doesn't stick up in court, but whatever, maybe some employee will still think twice before changing back your comments.

JanoRis,

Afaik some people reported that it restored to their original comment instead

JanoRis,

The increase on the 2nd time is probably through private subs reopening.

JanoRis,

As reddit is turning 18 the next few weeks, I kinda see Spez as an abusive Stepfather, who sells his children into a prostitution ring(IPO).

He doesn't care about the site, once the IPO is over he will just take his moneybags and leave

JanoRis,

though how many of these are duplicate accounts?

I myself have one kbin account and one lemmy.world account because kbin was not stable enough the first day and i did hear great things about the lemmy.world stability. I do use both though and also considering opening a feddit account
