@Kierunkowy74@kbin.social

Today's social media transform us into merely numbers.
No problem for me.

Alts: @Kierunkowy74 (kbin.earth) @Kierunkowy74 (PieFed)
Polish account: @Kierunkowy74
Mastodon: @74 or @Kierunkowy74 (alt)

A far-right party, with anti-Ukrainian views may be a kingmaker in Poland after the next elections. Anyone interested in 2 months old piece on the Confederation?

Not yet. kbin.social is only 18th largest fediverse server by MAU (data by fediverse.observer). Some Mastodon servers are up to 3 times larger than kbin.social. Mastodon.social has 20 times more MAU.

OC How did you end up finding kbin? Did you migrate here from Reddit?

I was initially introduced to Mastodon a few years ago by a close friend and picked up on it quickly given the benefits of not having to deal with advertising, or being shown what a mega-corporation thought I should have to see through algorithms. I have since found a great instance over on cupoftea.social that promotes quality...

Never had an account on corporate social media, neither Twitter, nor Reddit, nor Digggggggggggg. Before the account creation, knew only about Mastodon and Diaspora.
Created an Mastodon account on December '22, (Great Twitter Migration), triggered by Vivaldi browser creating their own instance (my first and primary Mastodon account is on different server, though). Then got to know karab.in (Polish /kbin instance), because /kbin developer follows a lot of people on Fediverse to populate the servers. Then registered there. And after founding of kbin.social, here.

Pretty interesting, that /kbin is appreciated as Reddit replacement - as last time I was this early, karab.in was deemed mainly as federated equivalent of wykop.pl (Polish corporate content aggregator, much more popular here than Reddit, incorporates microblogging)

Pssst... any ideas for a domain name for the new instance?

Hi there! I've been trying to improve the situation for the past few hours. I managed to disable CF Protection, and as you can see, I'm gradually allowing traffic from the fediverse. There may still be delays in deliveries and posts for some time. If anything is particularly troublesome, please let me know through the contact...

Many European Lemmy servers named themselves Feddit - but will it not confuse newcomers, when used by /kbin instance?

Kierunkowy74,

National ones:

cabine.fr (based on https://kbin.social/m/lacabine) and accordingly:
cabin.es
cabi.cat
cabim.pt
cabim.br

another English-language one:
boost.in

A Chilean instance can nod at carabiniers too (like Italy)

@SceNtriC said Reddidn't and @noodlejetski proposed as well lawwsu.it

These comments did not pass past Cloudflare

Isn't an "article" A piece of nonfictional writing such as a story, report, opinion piece, or entry in a newspaper, magazine, journal, dictionary, encyclopedia, etc.? (according to Wiktionary)

When talking about posts, ActivityPub differentiates between "notes", called toots on Mastodon (short, usually not-formatted, usually single-paragraph), and "articles", which can be longer and formatted.

/kbin is compatible with WriteFreely minimalist blogging software and its blog posts, already in the size of your typical article, can be read without any problem via /kbin interface, in "Threads"

Your account can be followed by a Mastodon account. Any Mastodon/Misskey/Pleroma/etc. follower will see on her/his feed not only all your posts and comments, but also anything you boosts. Boosts is retweet/reblog.

(Still learning this will a migration from reddit {im the co creator of WallstreetbetsOGs and a former moderator of Wallstreetbets on reddit})

@SirRandyMarsh There was, but it is temporarily off Announcement -

/kbin quick update

As you noticed, I had to temporarily enable DDoS protection. Someone is trying quite effectively to distract me from my activities ;p Unfortunately, this may cause some issues with the federation. I will try to cut off the traffic as soon as possible and return to normal operation. Thank you for all your support and patience! :)

Do not worry about us, kbin.social oldtimers - it was founded only on April, and we are early adopters ;)

Another explanation, also valid: /kbin is also like a bookstore - with people being able to create their own magazines (or even newspapers), consisting of long-form articles, but also of short notes (fitting a toot on Mastodon). And it contains also magazines from other bookstores, as they collaborate with /kbin. And people are able to write their own pieces on every magazine, not only these, which they own!

I loved magazine name of "subfeddit" since first sight, and now, I love this dual meaning even more!

Is this microblog more of a shoutbox or personal blog? Can we follow other users blogs, or just magazines' blogs?

Kierunkowy74,

@Technoguyfication You can follow both people and magazines.

/kbin is fully compatible with Lemmy - you can subscribe to Lemmy communities, post there, up- and downwote Lemmy threads and comment under them. User of any Lemmy instance can do the same with /kbin magazines.

/kbin magazines work the same way as Lemmy communities. Almost. Owner of a magazine can assign hashtags to it, which will effect in aggregating posts from outside Lemmy and /kbin in this magazine.

Because /kbin allows you to read threads not only from "Feddit"/"Threadiverse", but also from Mastodon and other federated microblogging, in the same threaded format, categorised by magazines. (section "Microblog")

Replaced an inactive .ml community with yours, thanks!

Kierunkowy74,

That's right. You have to be aware of this, when registering on Beehaw or Lemmy.one. If you want to create a community on Lemmy, make sure, that your instance has Create community option on top bar.

Kierunkowy74,

  1. Click the search icon (magnifying glass) on the top bar
  2. Type name of the community in the form @community@lemmy.server.

Yes, native Lemmy format of this community adress would actually be !community@lemmy.server, but this does not work on /kbin yet.
