‘Linux’ Foundation increases number of Microsoft employees in the board of directors to THREE, the only geek in the board has left (or got removed) (techrights.org)

Summary: The Linux Foundation is gradually becoming a shadow of Microsoft, just like the Open Source Initiative, where most of the money comes from Microsoft and the official blog promotes Microsoft, its proprietary software, and Microsoft’s side in a class action lawsuit over GPL violations (with 9 billion dollars in damages...

Maeve,

I can’t understand how this wasn’t foreseen.

Maeve,

Why? Why should the lives/recovery of bodies of very few billionaires garner more ethical weight than hundreds of poor desperately trying anything to improve their lot in life, dealt by greedy hoarders?

Maeve,

If people were willing to pay taxes and work toward equitability, charities for the poor wouldn’t be necessary.

Maeve,

After a poor night’s sleep, this made me very happy. Thank you.

Maeve,

An hour thirty-five, with notes.

Maeve,

Hi, yes, that sim is discussed in the first chapter, it’s quite fascinating!

Thanks for the website, I very much appreciate it.

Maeve,

That’s so funny because it’s so absurdly true to most issues, on both sides. We are so screwed.

Who am I supposed to use as a work reference?

I've applied for jobs a few times and this has always been a problem. Now that I've been out of college for a while it's even more of a problem. I don't have anyone from college that would even remember me. I can't use my current coworkers because I don't want my current employer to know I'm leaving until I have a new job lined...

Maeve,

There are paid services who will give you glowing recommendations, iirc.

Maeve,

Pasta sauce? Prithee, to what end result?

Maeve,

Excellently executed; I’d imagine so!

There is No Norm against Prosecuting Former Presidents in the United States (www.pwnallthethings.com)

In the past week, many supporters of former President Trump have made an argument in his defense that his indictment violates the norm against prosecuting former presidents. There is no such norm, and there never was.PwnAllTheThings is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a...

Maeve,

Rachel Maddow had an interesting piece about how the DOJ kept Agnew from running, with a plea agreement.

Should my wife tell her Dad that she's not his daughter?

My wife found out Saturday through an ancestry.com DNA test that her dad is not her actual biological father. Her mother had a supposed one time incident with a man she found on Facebook through the names on the ancestry test. Her parents separated when she was 6. She wasn't close with her dad over the years, but there was...

Maeve,

My supposedly biological father refused to even take a dna test with me. We aren’t close, he doesn’t even call. But when I asked him to take the test with me when we were lay together, he said, “At any rate, you’re mine now and it doesn’t matter.” I appreciated that.

Maeve,

I’ve gotten my q-adjacent parent and multiple neighbors of American liberal persuasion to do this, and also paper bags! I don’t think it was a matter of conscience, more of practicality/pinching pennies, though. Either way!

Maeve,

That’s the truth.

Maeve,

That’s just heartbreaking.

Maeve,

And a poor one, at that. They get $2000 each – after lawyer fees? And back wages.

Maeve,

As in “Unitarian Universalist?” That seems sketchy, for them.

Maeve,

Which is good. Their basic tenants, as far as I can recall, are “be kind, be responsible, everyone messes up sometimes.” It’s been a very long time since I attended a service, there are none in my corner of the world. Lots and lots of Baptists, Southern Baptists and Methodists that are breaking from the umc, though.

Maeve,

I’m saying there are different religions/sects that people consistent with Unitarian.

Maeve,

I’m still thinking about our conversation, and finally found a book I’ve been wanting to read/hear posted on YouTube by the actual author who self-narrates it for us. I’m only one chapter in (I should be sleeping, but I came here to post it, to you personally, and elsewhere), and he validates some of both of our thoughts. I thought about posting it to your website, but decided to let you make that call and post it if you wish. I’ll warn you now that it may require setting aside some emotions, in order to think dispassionately. This may or not be easier for me, as I may or not fall somewhere on the asd scale (I can’t access testing and properly addressing whatever the issue may be, so it’s moot), and obviously haven’t shared certain experiences with you.

A second warning: he does not use “right wing” in a political sense of the word, in the etymological sense. The post is also in the politics magazine, and I’d be most honored to listen and continue to swap ideas with you, if you’re interested.

The Authoritarians

Maeve,

What does that even mean? Contact matters.

Maeve,

Excellent, thank you! I’m wondering if something was lost in translation or my interpretation. When I think “context,” I consider something along the lines of: “Water is good.”

Is it good for a person drowning? What if it’s contaminated? What about during a hurricane/typhoon? And so forth.
