Nyfure,

Dont. They are notoriously bad at such things. Lack of Hardware acceleration mainly. These old Chips and problems with single-board-complications are just not worth it at such high prices.
An Intel N100 MiniPC will have much more compute with less complications.

Do you use the device you torrent on for personal things as well?

I’m just curious as I’ve permanently dedicated my laptop to torrenting. I’ve been too nervous to install anything but the VPN and Firefox on it. Now, I’m curious to mess around with Linux some more, which is what I use on it, but I can’t fully test out what all I can do with it without signing into accounts....

Nyfure,

Not really a problem with putting other stuff on it, apart from adhering to security standards. If you want to separate your personal stuff from hosted stuff, go ahead, but just because its torrent, doesnt make it much different.
Put it in a VM if you dont have a second machine i guess.

Intense Aurora visible from Belgium (lemmy.world)

Tonight a big solar storm hit the earth, showing aurora at least as far south as Northern Africa. I’m at ‘RACA’, a Belgian astro camp and took this picture with night mode on my Pixel7 phone. The main show lasted well over an hour and traces are still visible now, several hours after the start!

Nyfure,

Very pretty, was able to see it here too, should still be possible next evening too, depending on the conditions.
Next even bigger flare is already on the way again, lets see how much material it brings.

Nyfure,

First thing to come to mind is: Voting. Wherever you are.

EDIT: Wow, guess i am not alone with that,

Nyfure,

To be fair, any proper VPN setup that only relies on the routing table like this is flawed to begin with.
If the VPN program dies or the network interface disappears, the routes are removed aswell, allowing traffic to leave the machine without the VPN.
So it is already a good practice to block traffic where it shouldnt go (or even better, only allowing it where it should).

Many VPN-Programs by Providers already have settings to enable this to prevent "leaking".

Nyfure,

Strong argument, anything else?

Nyfure,

Unikely.. Kinda why VR also didnt get too popular, most players just prefer "classic" controls and not movement-controls.
But this is huge for VR and other usages of this, probably even useful for production routing, but i dont have any knowledge of that.

Nyfure,

to be fair, they specifically target the way google ranks these websites. If google would rank them with less impact of what the website "bastardizes", this could be generally less of an issue in the first place.

Nyfure,

Dont bother with raspberrypis for most things anymore. Too expensive for that old shitty hardware they put on the boards..
Machines like the Intel N100 is much simpler to deal with. No more shitty hardware incompatability and old CPU which doesnt even have proper modern HW offloading (looking at you Pi4.. what a shitboard)

Nyfure,

What i dont understand: These gains are calculated into the option premium, so how is this still attractive?
Basically betting the line goes up faster (or earlier) than the seller predicted?

Nyfure,

a call Option that follows the S&P500 over the course of 3 years? That’s a pretty safe bet.

As long as it rises higher than the strike price + premium.
If it just rises (your "safe bet") as expected (and never far enough above the strike + premium or you didnt exercise), you loose and the contract gets worthless.

Now i havent traded LEAPS yet, but based on what i have learned, i dont understand why someone would sell you such a contract and even if, someone else would love to jump onto that "safe bet", if it was that safe. That someone will most likely not be you.

As far as i can see, its a bet that the broker who sold you the option was wrong/too low about expected growth.
Thats risky, potentially loosing the whole savings as you paid the premiums. Leverage sounds good when its positive, but also works negative..

Nyfure,

We cant read Apples mind, so thats wishful thinking. But sending telemetry (even if hidden) means it can be used.
Thats why e.g. Apple is using Differential Privacy for apps to use.. to not have to give the Apps full access to e.g. usage data.
Of course Apple themselves isnt necessarily bound to that system themselves, who knew..

And why not allow other Apps to replace your default Apps if you want to? Why not have access to that Freedom?
After all you should be able to do anything you want with your system.. or maybe you dont believe in this kind of freedom. Could just buy an Android phone. Fuck the person who wants to actually own their hardware, right? How could they be so dumb and want actual freedom, haha.
No, we play pretend while Freedom is further taken away under "Privacy" claims. Maybe that replacement battery will send your usage pattern via shortwave radio to an agent nearby..

Nyfure,

No problems with yubikeys or the receptacle they are plugged into yet.. no idea what you do while these sticks are plugged in.. doesnt seem like a major concern per the reviews

Nyfure,

too bad.. inconveniencing other users was also part of the point. Not sure how not doing anything, but not deleting it has more impact.. def. feels like alot less.
Guess you cant use reddit reliably anymore for searching for stuff, too bad. Use a different platform or hope it has the chance to grow and is less shitty.
Sorry you are so inconvenienced for continuing to use reddit, otherwise.. why would you care?

Self hosted AI chat like OmniGPT?

I’ve just discovered OmniGPT that seems to be a chat where you can interact with different LLM (Claude, GPT-4, Llama, Gemini, etc.) and costs $16/month (it was $7/month until a week ago 🤦‍♂️). I’ve read on a Reddit post that it uses the APIs of all the provider that is a thing that can be done for free using a...

Nyfure,

you want a frontend, not the "service" itself.
Under "service" i usually understand the main logic part of something. In this case the LLM-processing itself.
Thats probably where the confusion is coming from here.

Nyfure,

Bandwidth is one part.. Storage is theother and usually you have less storage than bandwidth anyways.

Nyfure,

Well you only have to reinstall if you had affected versions installed.
For e.g. Debian stable, thats not the case. Or e.g. Arch sshd doesnt link to xz, so thats not a concern there.

Most systems wont be affected because their sshd doesnt link xz, didnt update to that version yet or simply isnt accessible from the outside.
Though it does show how vulnerable critical packages can be and how much better we need to protect them.

Nyfure,

Please include the actual calculations for energy-prices as many, you may not know, live in different locations and pay different prices compared to you.

Which video service has the fewest or shortest ad breaks? (reddit.invak.id)

Thought this might be a helpful discussion for those who want to cut down on advertising breaks when they have multiple options to watch a show or movie. Below are my results for Tubi, followed by a summary of this subject’s URL, which someone tested in 2021....

Nyfure, (edited )

I like the streaming approach, but i dislike that its linked to stremio.
I want to have the option to use my server (at least for syncing) with my own auth and transcode when needed on the server.
Basically jellyfin with streaming sources and search built-in.

And most debrid services dont seed (well) and have poor retention, so thats also not that great.

Nyfure,

Seemy like you dont know how the cli actually works.
So if you ever have to touch the CLI (not sure when a normal user would need to), you complain you dont know the CLI instead of learning the tools you want to use?
Lots of stuff on Windows didnt work for me when i wanted advanced things.. very intuitive to fix that, if it was even possible.
Every system has its fair share, but if you are unwilling to learn and understand your tools before using them, you might drill yourself in the hand. Windows is just a bit over-protective before you can do so.
